"Sir!" Nathalie rolled her eyes sarcastically "Quit with the compliments, Adrien must be sick of them by now."
"Actually..." the boy interrupted "actually I very much enjoy listening to you two talk like that. It's funny."
"Funny?" His father asked with a curious gaze that froze right as he was about to lift up his fork with a piece of pancake on it
"...you're having a laugh about us?"
"Not like that! Funny in the way that I've not heard you talk like that to someone almost ever."
"Oh." The grey haired man got surprised when he realized that his son was indeed right.
Quite some time had passed since he had used such a nice tone towards someone. Usually it was those simple, cold replies, followed by some disapproving or grumpy glare of his. Except now the case was completely switched around to kind words and affectionate gestures.
"Anyways." Nathalie's voice brought him back "At least things are changing for the better."
"Right." Adrien added, eating the pancakes happily "I'm glad."
With a smile they all continued with their breakfasts and surprisingly enough Gabriel didn't utter another compliment during all that time. Instead he took those minutes to ponder over the things which his son had said. Though a little bit later when the designer was next to his assistant, helping her clean the dishes, he couldn't help but nudge her slightly.
"You're really pretty like this." Said the man, smiling in Nathalie's direction.
"I am in my pajamas and I haven't even brushed my hair."
"And? I don't see the issue."
"Gabriel the issue is that-
"-Why do you find the need to highlight such things as issues?" The man cut her off, and now instead of a soft, loving gaze, his expression became stern. "There is no problem with not being in fancy clothes or fully ready. Even if you just got up, I still find you beautiful. And seriously there is no point in finding an issue in everything."
"Well...m-maybe you're right." She sighed "It is my bad habit to always find something I could fix."
To the sound of that Gabriel chuckled.
Nathalie wasn't so sure exactly why he had a sudden mood change, but as his hand took a hold of her face and dragged it closer to his, she didn't have time to think about anything.
"I know you are a perfectionist." The designer smiled "That's precisely why I need and love you so much."
"Oh sir!"
"Gabriel." He corrected her
"Gabriel." She corrected herself.
Both adults laughed as they suddenly began blushing at one another for no apparent reason. However for them it looked as if there would've been a reason.
Adrien saw it this way while he hid behind the half open kitchen door, and from there observed as his father and assistant were talking.
The two kissed shortly after, which caused the blond boy to gasp, making Gabriel and Nathalie turn their heads and spot the teenager.
"Adrien!" They exclaimed
"Were you spying on us?" The woman asked.
"N-no-...I-I j-just forgot my glass of water a-and came back to get it b-but-"
"Right, and pigs can fly."
"Okay." Adrien sighed, admitting that he had been caught "Maybe I was being a bit-...nosy...b-but I didn't mean any harm...I-I mean I know you two-...l-like each other s-so I didn't find anything new."
A wide grin appeared on the grey haired man's face as he watched his assistant burry her face in her hands and in a defeated manner sigh.
"Alright well that's true." The designer placed his hand on Nathalie's shoulder and pulled her next to himself by it. "But it seems as if Nath doesn't like you finding anything at all."
The blond boy glanced down at his feet, embarrassed. He didn't mean to make the assistant feel sad or bad about herself, the teenager was simply curious. However now Adrien felt as if he would've done something horrible, and the guilt which suddenly emerged out of the blue began crushing the poor boy's heart.
"Nath I am very sorry-" whispered Adrien with tears almost flowing out of his eyes "I-I didn't want to-"
"It's not a big deal." She cut him off "It's just that I haven't gotten so used to-...acting like this and not having to hide it or keep it a secret from everyone."
Unexpectedly the dark haired woman's hand took a rest on the teenager's shoulder.
"I know you wouldn't tell anyone about me and your father being...closer than usual. I know I can trust you Adrien, but naturally trust is a difficult thing." Her soft touch remained on him "Give me time to get used to it, please."
"Y-yes of course. I-I respect t-that and believe me I won't tell anyone about your situation!"
"Thank you." Nathalie's lips formed a smile.
Then she turned her back to the kid and looked at her boss who's grin had shifted into an expression beaming with joy.
"Aw Nath." He mumbled "You're so cute."
"You too, sir."
"Gabriel." He corrected her for the second time today, and watching his assistant sigh deeply before starting again:
"Gabriel." She laughed "You're cute too."
Now everything seemed to be fine.
The adults were laughing, Adrien himself was giggling too as he watched his father step forward and again kiss the dark haired woman who so lovingly wrapped her arms around his neck.
Despite it being a strange sight to see for the blond boy, he still liked to admit that he wanted things to happen this way. Even if the sound of his dad and one of his workers dating didn't exactly make the best first impression, the child realized that at least this way the two people who were his parental figures in life would be united. So this comforting idea made Adrien feel relieved, knowing his father won't be so depressed over his dead wife.
After all Gabriel's grieving was what ruined their bond.
"Adrien? Adrien!" Nathalie's voice quickly snapped the teenager out of his thoughts. "Everything okay? You froze."
"Oh I'm fine. I was thinking."
"About?"
"Don't bother yourself Nath." Adrien chuckled "It's useless and I really should go study" the boy awkwardly stepped back "I have a lot of homework." almost bumping into the door the teenager turned around and hurried away which made the dark haired woman glance around towards her superior with a confused expression.
"What the hell?" She uttered "Was it just me or did he seem-"
"Maybe Adrien wants to leave us alone so we can have time for ourselves!" The designer smirked whilst slowly approaching his assistant.
"You know-"
"Gabriel!"
