38.
"Going." Gabriel whispered, suddenly lighting up his expression with a smile as he walked closer to his assistant who waited by the door,
"Well-..." the man's eyes looked to the opposite side of the mansion where his son's room was located. "Let's go."
With that the designer took ahold of his employee's hand and dragged her out of his room.
They walked for a bit, across the upstairs corridor and towards the teenager's room.
Then, once the adults reached Adrien's place, they stopped to knock.
"Hello?" Gabriel called out loudly, with that unexpectedly getting harshly nudged by the dark haired woman who began frowning at him aggressively.
"Quiet!" She spat in a whisper "He might be sleeping."
"Nathalie it's so late in the morning, he should be awake by now-"
"And if he isn't?" She cut him off, rolling her eyes and giving her boss a sour glare "How would you like to be woken up by an ear piercing 'hello'?!"
"Oh please! Ear piercing is a bit of an exaggeration to describe my voice."
"Well either way that 'hello' was straight up horrendous!" She carefully pushed down the handle of the door, and by a quick gesture of her hand signaled for Gabriel to follow her. "Poor kid must be having nightmares from your 'hello'." Nathalie said as she made her way into the bedroom on her tiptoes, followed by her superior, who was doing the exact same.
"Ouch!"
"My ears said the same!"
"Come on!" The man whined. "You're so mean."
The dark haired woman was about to turn around and make another bitter comment just to annoy Gabriel, yet before she could've done so, the blond boy popped up in a blink of an eye.
"Nathalie!" Said Adrien "A-and father!" The kid spotted his dad still awkwardly standing on his tiptoes "Good morning!"
"Good morning Adrien." The assistant greeted first "How did you sleep?"
"It was great, better than usual actually. You?"
"Oh well-..." the woman glanced over her shoulder to give her boss a flustered glance, "...we slept fine." she mumbled awkwardly, blushing as the memories of them falling asleep together flooded her mind.
Nathalie froze, she became a little bit like a statue from the outside, but in contrast to that, on the inside the assistant was feeling a whole lot of emotions. Almost as if her feelings would've been in some carnival.
Her heart dancing, racing and singing, all from pure joy.
Despite the woman's overwhelming state, she got interrupted with the sudden pressure of a hand on her shoulder. The warm touch sank down on her as the person's gently heavy hand took a rest there.
Nathalie looked to see who it was, and to no one's surprise the mysterious someone turned out to be Gabriel.
She was under the grey haired man's loving touch.
"R-right-..." said he, breaking the what felt like an everlasting silence "...we did sleep alright...at least I hope you did, Nath, because I sure did-"
"It was fine." She replied in a hurry, her voice shaking just as intensely as her blush was forming.
"Fine? Only fine?" The man asked rather embarrassed "Did you not feel comfortable? Was it too warm? Too cold? Do you have a preferred side? Would you have liked for me to keep a light on?"
"W-what n-no!"
"Then-"
"I meant fine as in great!" Nathalie corrected herself "...the night was great, sir. I got very good sleep and I enjoyed every moment. I hope you did as well."
"Of course I did." Gabriel admitted proudly and now they both blushed.
Seeing this, Adrien had a faint smirk start to form on his lips, his eyes were patiently watching the two adults talk and every time they'd fluster one another, his smirk wound widen.
"S-so-" the quiet was one again dissolved by the designer "W-we actually wanted to make breakfast downstairs, together. How does that sound Adrien? Care to join?"
"O-oh r-really?" The teenagers expression became shocked "I-It w-would be awesome!" Cheered the blond boy with an unusual amount of happiness in his tone of voice.
"Well then." Gabriel turned himself towards the door "Shall we?"
"We shall!" Adrien enthusiastically ran beside his dad and walked together with his 'parents' downstairs to have this unexpected family breakfast, which in his head sounded like a miracle.
After arriving in the kitchen the child happily took his seat and watched as the two older people were preparing the food.
Gabriel seemed to be fantastic with cooking which was more than impossible for the boy to believe since he never knew that his father had such a talent for pancakes. Nevertheless Gabriel pleasantly surprised his son.
In the meantime Nathalie was the one who made sure the table got set and everyone had what they preferred to eat.
She moved around the kitchen all in a blink of an eye, placing plates where they were meant to go and pouring out drinks for all three of them.
"Thank you." The teenager smiled as he got served a pancake on his place "This is so cool of you to do father!"
"Cool?" Gabriel chuckled at the rather strange choice of words.
"You know what I mean! I appreciate you and Nathalie spending time with me. It is very-..."Adrien almost teared up "...very sweet." He managed to catch those tears with a swift wipe of his hand.
"Oh Adrien" the dark haired woman hummed, ruffling the kid's hair as she sat closer to him. "Your father and I are so glad to be spending more time with you!"
"R-really?" The boy's voice shook, he couldn't believe such words which he hasn't heard in what felt like forever.
"Of course! We would love to spend even more time with you! As a-...a somewhat family."
"Nathalie you are like family, there is no need to use the word 'somewhat'. You are what feels like a mother to me."
"I-" she was shocked, speechless to be exact.
"You've helped me and father with everything. So being called 'mom' is the bare minimum that you deserve. And again, if you haven't already heard it enough, thank you, thank you both in my name and in my father's name. We are both incredibly lucky to have you here. R-right father?"
"Absolutely." Gabriel looked at her, his eyes sparkling just like hers with tears, and their hearts beating faster than expected.
"We are so lucky, in fact 'luck' isn't even a word to describe it. It's more like 'blessed'."
"Oh sir please!" The assistant whispered, her voice shaking a bit and her blush unable to be hidden "There is no need-"
"But there is." He placed his hand firmly over her trembling shoulder. "And I want you to know how special you are."
To be continued-...
