Chapter 10: the person I never wanted to see

The next day the door opened but neither of them made a move to see who it was. Rosy had her head resting on Jack's shoulder as Jack leaned his head against her's. One of his arms came around her keeping her close to his side and as for his other arm he used it to hold her hand.

Still sleeping when Carter came in front of them with a look of amusement on his face. "Wow and I thought I was a deep sleeper!" Carter shouted making both Rosy and Jack bump their heads against each others. "What is it Carter?" Jack mumbled, wincing in pain as Rosy started getting up.

"I hope you didn't forget what's coming up tomorrow?" Carter smiled waiting for a response but received blank stares from both Jack and Rosy. "And that's why I'm here to remind you that tomorrow is the ball!" Carter said excitedly.

Rosy made a sound between a yawn and a grunt and rest her head against Jack's shoulder again, closing her eyes. Jack smiled and lean his head against her's looking up at Carter. "Carter what time do you want us ready?" Jack said as Rosy buried her head deeper in his shoulder closing her eyes tighter.

"I'll be back after the sun sets tomorrow. See you then," Carter's said, his voice dripping with a hidden meaning as he walked out the door.

"Jack I know I lost the whole bet thing but do you think we could maybe... I don't know skip?" She pleaded with puppy eyes and a small smile. Jack gasped a little as he smiled back, I can't help it she's to cute Jack thought then realize he was staring to long he looked down, a little bit of blush filling his cheeks.

"Rosy we have to go. And I did win the bet," Jack said bringing his hand to her cheek causing her to blush a deep red. "I know but what if we stayed here," her smile lighting up her whole face. Before he could interrupt she answered quickly, "I mean think about it we could stay here. We can just talk, eat and sleep. That sounds like a perfect day to me," she said drifting off sighing. That sounds way better than a ball.

"Rosy I was going to tell you this later but I think I should tell you now," Jack looked down as he said it then brought his eyes back to her's. Regret in his eyes. "Jack," Rosy said grabbing his hand, "What is it?"

"During the ball I was thinking it would be a perfect time to... you know... leave," he answered softly then looked up with a small smile. "Wait what? I mean I guess..." she gave Jack a horrid expression. "Wait you want me to leave? Where would I go? I don't know anyone beside you and... yeah I wouldn't know where to go, and to be alone in this place..." a finger came up to her mouth as she looked at Jack who held an amused look in his eyes.

"You think I would leave you alone?" He laughed a little but when she didn't join he stopped and stared at her. "You really thought I would leave you?" Jack said sounding hurt as he said it. No. Yes? I just don't want to be left alone again.

"Rosy I would never leave you alone again. I'm sorry you had to be alone for such a long time but I'm not leaving you. So you might as well get use to me because I'm always going to be there for you," he smiled at her as he brought her closer to him. Did I say that out loud? No I was pretty sure I didn't.

She stared at Jack who continued to stare at her, amusement in his eyes as he laughed. Okay let's test it. What's 4x4? She thought staring at Jack hard. He laughed and didn't say anything. Well there's that answer just a coincedence.

Yawning she leaned her head against the gate closing her eyes. Jack moved to be next to her and moved her head so it rested on his shoulder. Smiling she leaned in closer, what it doesn't mean I like him he's just really comfortable to lean against. That and it almost seem like we are a perfect fit. Nah it just me.

Before Rosy went to sleep she could have swore she heard Jack whisper, "16. And yes we are a perfect fit." Smiling she had a dreamless sleep, like most nights.

She woke up just in time for dinner. She sat across from Jack and looked at him as she attempt to eat whatever the Green slimy thing was. Who knows it might be good? She thought putting it in her mouth smiling.

Not good, not good. She repeated not wanting to spit out her food in front of Jack who laughed. "What you don't like it?" He teased as he ate one. "What? Of course I do," she replied, I hope to never ever taste that again. If I do it would be to soon. "Oh that's good because I didn't really like mine. Here you can have it," he said pushing his green slim onto her plate.

Looking away from it as she willed herself not to throw up. See what you've done? "Aren't you going to eat one?" he smiled waiting for her to eat it. "Of course but because it's so good I thought I would save it for last," she explained as she didn't make a move to eat it. Nice that should do it and I'll just say I'm to full to finish it after I eat the other stuff. It's fool proof!

"Oh but you know you should really eat your vegetables before you move on with your meal," he said laughing a little. You call that a vegetable? More like something that came out of someone's nose. Disgusting and slimy. She was pulled out of her thought when Jack's laughter filled the room, causing her to jump a little.

"I'm sorry," he said wiping imaginary tears from his eyes, "I just really want to see you eat it," he said with a mischief look in his eyes as he smiled, "unless you don't like it and you lied?" He stated but it came out a question. "Stop stop stop I'll eat it," Rosy said bringing her fork to the slimy green thing, lifting it up some of the slim fell off her fork and into her lap. Swallowing hard she looked at it. I did it before I can do it again.

She put it in her mouth making her best straight face, barely chewing so wouldn't be tempted to throw it back up. Finally she swallowed and looked at him who looked a little surprise but then smiled again. Bring his fork putting it in the slimy thing he brought it back to her. "Oh look at you, you like it so much. You know what I bet you would like more," he said bringing the fork to her mouth.

"I can't do it! I don't like it!" She screamed pushing the fork away from her causing it to skid along the floor. He laughed holding his side, "I know."

"Wait you knew, then why did you make me eat it?" She said a little irritated and amaze. Man he's good. "I didn't think you would, oh but I loved the face you made when you did. Priceless!" Laughing so loudly I surprise no one came in to check on us.

Smiling she grabbed her fork and was immediately at his side. "Awww your so cute. You didn't have to sacrifice you portion for me. Now look," she gestured to the plate with both of their green slim mixed together. "We don't know which is yours now, I pretty sure I ate mine, but now it's your time to finish it," she smiled now at the look he gave her. She gave him the fork that hadn't touch the floor, smiling she looked at him, "Eat up!"

He wouldn't take the fork so she actually took the fork, and tickled him. Caught off guard she shoved it in when he gasp. After that she made sure he ate the rest, after he was done he looked at her and frown swallowing the last part of it, looking a little green.

"See now we can eat!" She exclaimed excitedly but none of them were hungry anymore. She put there plates in the usually place where the guard would come and take it later.

"So how exactly are we going to leave?" She said breaking the silence they had formed. "I haven't exactly thought about it, but I'll tell you when. There's a certain time when no one is really around because they are all dancing. As long as we're not dancing then we should be able to get out."

Later on when they were both starting to go sleep Rosy thought of something and sat up. "Jack, why exactly do you think we should leave? Not that I'm complaining, but what made you think we should leave?" Rosy questioned turning her head to look at Jack who still had his eyes closed.

"I'm not strong enough," he whispered softly. She gave him a incredulous look, "that's it and you thinking running away would make you stronger?"

"Yes. No!" He said throwing his hands up in the air. I still don't get it. It was silent for a moment none of them said anything.

"I can't lose you again," he whispered almost as if he didn't want her to hear. "What do you mean?" She said smiling now, "I'm right here," she moved closer to him as she said it.

"No," he began looking at her. "I'm not strong enough. I didnt stop the blade in time when Nadar came and cut you. I wasn't strong enough when I was younger to keep you from leaving to a place where you didn't fit in and felt alone. Everytime something happens to you I was never on time. I'm not strong enough," he confess, guilt and pain in his eyes as he looked at her.

"Jack," Rosy started making sure she got Jack's attention before she continued. "You are the most strongest person I know. You stopped a blade from killing me. I would have a scar any day if it meant I didn't die," she shrugged as she smiled lifting her elbow to tap him lightly to lift the mood. It didn't. The mood was as dead as when the conversation first started.

"Look Jack you are the most strongest, bestest, awesomest, if that's a word, person I know. You saved my life more then once and you never left my side. I left you and when I came back you were there waiting for me, always there. If there was one person I would want with me, it's you, no doubt, hands down. I always want you to be by my side. That's why when I thought you weren't coming with me, not only was I scared of being alone. I thought if I left and you didn't come then I wouldn't see you again. It was a sad..." suddenly warm laughter filled the room as she looked up to Jack laughing.

"I'm sorry I not laughing," he said laughing but after a while she smiled and chuckled a little to.

"Thank you Rosy. You always know just what to say," he said kissing her forehead as they both leaned against the gate. Man I really want to kiss her right now Jack thought chuckling a little, Rosy blushed as she turned to looked at him making him laugh harder. She so cute.

Why does he have to be so cute? Rosy thought knowing she was blushing. She leaned her head against his shoulder hoping it would hide some of the blush as she tried to go to sleep. Jack's laugher slowing down as he leaned his head against her's. "As always Rosy, you make me happy. Thank you."

The sun set and Jack left to go find Carter and ask him something as Rosy stayed behind to get dressed. The dress fitted her perfectly. I don't know how they did it but this was definitely a dress I remember trying on. One that I liked. How did they know?

Lost in thought when the door opened to a surprise Jack in the door way. He looked her up and down, swallowing hard, putting his hands in his pockets. He walked up to her and smiled, holding out his arm for her to take. "You look beautiful," he told her as they walked out with Rosy blushing, her face a bright red.

They have been at the ball for at least an hour. And Jack was right people were starting to move to the dance floor. Rosy started looking for Jack when she saw him laughing with another girl. Anger filled her that it took all the self control she had to not march up to the girl and punch her. What's wrong with me?

Rosy shook her head, when she looked back at them Jack was smiling at her, then he directed his glaze back to the girl in front of him. Fine. Two can play at this game. She turned to walk away from her spot when she bumped into someone. Someone she hoped she would never see again.

"Hello dear miss me?"
