The lake is alive. I can feel it in my bones. The Lakes waves are crashing higher than they've ever been before. The waves are starting to reach the ten-foot mark and they're only growing. I don't know what happened. The night was supposed to be a quiet calm one. Then all of a sudden we heard the distant sound of boulders falling, most likely from the forceful waves, and look outside to see all hell has broken loose. I stepped outside, hoping to get a sense of whats going on. My eyes catch on something odd coming from the lake. I walk further away from the safety of my home.

"Mavis where the hell are you going!" My dad shouts out past the storm. I can barely hear him, his words sound like a whisper. I don't turn around. I can't bring myself to look away from the lake.

"It's glowing, can't you see!". I take a few more steps forward.

"Mavis honey please, you're sick! Come back inside, there's nothing there!"

"Why won't you believe me!" this time I manage to tear my eyes away from the lake and look back at my dad who is standing in the doorway. His eyes are frantic and he tries to call out again but his words are lost in the wind.

I resume my walk towards the lake, almost enchanted by its soft blue glow. The wind howling past my ears begin to sound like words. Cries for help. The wind whipping past my skin leaves small cuts and red marks, resembling bite marks. I reach the edge of the lake and turn back one last time. I see my dad struggling to run towards me, the wind holding him back. I look up past him and see my mom in the window. I smile at her, then at him. I hear him mouth my name in a scream that reached no one. I step into the lake, getting chest-deep in it. I take one final breath and dive towards the blue glow. I'm not sure what compelled me to do it. The longing of the lake and the light reaching my body full force. After a few moments of kicking my way to the light, my lungs start to burn and my head spins and yet not a single bone in my body wants to swim up. After a few more moments I feel nothing but bliss as the blue glow surrounds my body. My lungs stop screaming and my mind stops thinking. Everything goes black.
