The Bog of Eternal Stench
Roman's POV:
I follow Huggle and Ludo inside of a forest. Green trees drape the woods, adding a horror movie look to it.
"Over here!" Higgle says.
I walk over to him and he says, "Step here, on the green moss."
I raise my eyebrows. "Why?"
"Because I said so."
I cross my arms over my chest. "Why should I trust you?"
"I'm helping you, aren't I?" Yeah, he's right about that.
I step on the moss, instantly falling down a deep, dark hole. I land my ass and grimace in pain. I look up to see Ludo falling down the tunnel and I quickly roll out of the way so he doesn't crush me. Higgle then falls beside us and we look at our surroundings.
"Where are we?" I ask, rubbing the back of my head.
"Follow me," Hoggle said. (Wow, Roman actually got it right)
We all get up and follow Huggle to an opening, the sun gleaming through the darkness. Before I can walk out into the outside of the cave, Hoggle stops me and says, "Careful. If you fall off, you'll smell horrible FOREVER!"
I look down to see a disgusting swamp before me. Hoggle is right. Taking one wrong step would send us falling down into the swamp, if we fall off of the stone wall that we're standing on. Ground is near us, but we'll have to walk across the stone wall to get safely to land.
I stop holding my breath and breathe in the smell. I start coughing on the horrible stench. "That smell is DISGUSTING!" I cover my nose with my left hand, my right hand holding onto a wall of the cave.
"Yes, well, we better get going so we can get away from it," Hoggle says.
Hoggle starts moving towards the ground, pressing his back up against the wall. I follow his actions, Ludo still standing in the cave.
"Friends!" Ludo shouts.
"Yes, Ludo, call your friends!" Higgle shouts.
"Friends? What friends?" I ask.
"Ludo has friends that can help us."
"Oh, and now you mention it?!"
"Yes, because it is the appropriate time to. Don't you agree?"
I snort. "Yeah, sure."
Ludo lets out a loud roar, causing me to almost fall of the wall.
"A warning might've been nice!" I shout. God, I hate these guys. Sarah has bad taste in friends.
Rocks from everywhere start tumbling down, landing all over the swamp right below us. As Ludo roars more, more rocks come. I'm assuming his power is to call rocks. And I'm also assuming that the rocks are his friends. That's...that's just kinda weird, not gonna lie.
"Now we can jump on the rocks and walk to the land!" Hoggle exclaims.
We all jump down onto the rocks. I quickly catch myself before I slip off and land into the swamp. That would suck. My royal image would be ruined if I smelt like shit for eternity! And Virgil probably wouldn't want to do anything touchy anymore...if I ever do find him...
We walk on the rocks over to the sandy land. I look in front of me to see a bridge and...OH MY GOD THERE IS A SQUIRREL ON A DOG! ON A FUCKING DOG! What the fuck kind of place is this? First I find a guy pissing in a lake, then some worm thing talks to me, a weird ass old dude has a fucking talking bird hat, and now there is a goddamn squirrel using a dog as a human would use a horse. Virgil likes pretty fucked up things.
"Let's go see Ambrosias and Sir Didymus!" Hoggle says, walking towards the squirrel and the dog. God, I wish that I remembered more of this movie.
"Sir Hoggle! Brother Ludo!", the squirrel exclaims. Then he looks at me. "And who might you be?" He sounds like he's trying to be menacing but I could kick his ass and two seconds.
"I'm Roman," I say, glaring at him. This guy seems to be arrogant and I don't like it.
"We are helping Roman find his lover, Virgil," Hoggle says.
The squirrel looks up at me. "So our mission is to find your damsel in distress?"
"He's no damsel, but he sure is in distress," I say.
"We must go at once to find Virgil!", the squirrel exclaims. "But where are we going to?"
"The Goblin City," Hoggle says, "to see if King Jareth will lend us a crystal ball to use to find Virgil."
"Very well! Lets go, Ambrosias!", the squirrel says, hitting Ambrosias- the dog- with his little sword handle. Okay, so the squirrel is Sir Didymus. I got it.
"I must find him," I say. "I miss him a lot."
"There is nothing more powerful than the emotion of love," Sir Didymus says. "Isn't That right, Ambrosias?" The dog barks, panting.
"But what if we don't find him?"
"I'm sure we will," Hoggle says with an optimistic smile.
"I highly doubt it." Since when have I been so pessimistic? I must have been hanging around Virgil too much...
Before I know it, I feel tears streak my cheeks. I quickly wipe them away and sniffle. I'll find him. I know I will. But what if I don't? And what if I do find him, but he refuses to come back and I have to return home, telling the others that we're never going to see our beloved Virgil again? That would break my heart.
"Sir Roman, why are you crying?" Sir Didymus asks, concern in his voice.
"Because I miss Virgil." I wipe away my tears. "And I'm afraid that we won't be able to find him or that he will refuse to come back with me or that he might be dead or that-."
"We will find him, Sir Roman. We will find him."
Sir Didymus' words comfort me and I give him a small smile. "I hope we do. Then I'll carry him in my arms and I will make him come home."
