Chapter 2

"So you're saying, I'm supposed to save the kingdom?"

"In a way, sí."

"And how is that? Aren't I disrupting the peace?" Jyn looked smug.

"Well let me rephrase that for you, the Rebellion believes you could save this kingdom."

"But how?"

"Por favor! Stop with the questions!"

"Okay, okay."

The two sat in a deathly silence, which was short lived due to the fact that Jyn was curious.

"Why me?"

"What do you mean?"

"Why was I chosen?"

"Do you know who Galen Erso is?"

"Ye—n-no! I've never heard of that name in my life."

"Don't lie."

"I'm not lying."

"Are you sure about that Jyn Erso?"

"What did you just call me?"

"By your proper name, I'm kind of surprised those guards haven't caught on yet."

Jyn made a face, not saying anything. The same silence settled once again between the two and this time she didn't want to break it.

It was quite peaceful outside. The duo had made it to a small forest and all she could hear was the sound of branches cracking under the horse's hooves.

"His name is K2SO."

"Excuse me?"

"My horse, his name is K2SO."

"Well that's quite a strange name for a horse I may say."

"It's easier to keep track of, right K2?"

He brushed his hand against the horse's mane who in return made an irritated grunt.

"He's more of an outspoken horse as you can tell."

Jyn almost scoffed.

"Is that so?"

"I wouldn't be doubting what I just said, he'll most likely throw you off his back if that's the case."

She went quiet and K2's pace quickened. Sounds of screams and panic seemed to echo throughout the trees.

"What was that? A plague outbreak?"

Cassian turned to face her, a look of panic apparent in his eyes.

"We have to go...quickly." He hissed under his breath. "K2 speed up."

"W-why are we moving so fast?"

Jyn struggled to hold onto the horse. Resorting to grabbing tightly onto K2's torso. In response he tried to throw her off. Cassian paid no obvious attention to Jyn's current problem, instead he curved them through the trees hitting several sharp branches in the process.

"What are you doing?"

"Trying to not get us killed, that's what!"

A few minutes later Cassian finally stopped, looking around the clearing.

"Why'd you stop?" Jyn asked looking through the bag attached to K2's sattle.

"I think the danger is gone now."

"Well I wouldn't say that..."

"Why?"

"You should take a look at yourself."

He reached for his face, touching red.

"It's getting dark out, maybe we should set up camp?"

Jyn mounted off the horse and started to walk a few feet forward.

"Hey!"

Cassian threw himself off the horse.

"Hey! Get back here!"

"I'm not going anywhere..." She spoke calmly.

"What's in your hand?"

"Nothing."

"What's in your hand?"

"I said it's nothing."

Jyn walked a few steps forward. She checked to see if Cassian was following, he wasn't. Instead he had decided to head back towards where they stopped.

She took it as a cue to run. Her legs were all kinds of sore but it wasn't her current worry. The dagger she had taken from the satchel was held tight in her hands. It was a basic design. A rustic silver blade attached to a leather handle.

The soreness had soon caught up to her, and a few moments later Jyn felt herself stop. What proceeded was a coughing fit.

"Trying to escape I see?"

She turned to face him, he looked smug.

"I guess so."

"Quite a fighter aren't you?"

"All my life."

"Is that so?"

"Pulled through the bubonic plague. I would say that's quite an achievement."

"I see..."

The two went silent.

"I see you did have something in your hand all along, give it to me."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Isn't this kingdom a full blown war zone? I need to defend myself."

"Por favor, just hand it over."

"Trust goes both ways."

"You should've listened to me earlier."

"About?"

"About us stopping somewhere, maybe there's a nice cave around here, we could make a fire?"

"Do you want the Empire to know we are here? Especially you!"

"So I'm guessing we aren't stopping for the night?"

"Not unless you want to get killed."

Jyn sighed, eyes scanning the horizon. The sun was setting fast and soon enough all the two would see would be black.

"I really think we should stop Cassian."

"Did you listen to what I said before?"

"It's getting quite dark and I see a cave over there, we could stay there for the n—" she was stopped mid sentence from another coughing fit.

"Are you okay?"

Jyn ignored his question. "The cave doesn't seem that far away, tell K2 to hurry, soon it'll be too dark to see anything.

Reluctantly he nodded and they went off into the night.

A/N: I was supposed to have this chapter up by last night but homework caught up to me. Luckily today I had my work done earlier so expect an update for "Fools" as well if you read that book <3
