Long Gone
Long gone was the past full of dreams come true
Long gone was the past that we once knew
Now is the present when the beauty of art has died
And the consumer wants only the opposite—the comforting lie
Altered was the knowledge of virtue, replaced with illusion
Dead was the creativity, ticked away by cliché
Dead was the driven plot, buried far away
Lost was the driven character, only seen for the tone of skin.
Never have I asked for forgiveness because I forever sin
Alive were they now, the sheep will be lost in confusion
Dead was the melody in the music to our ears
Vividly ridding us of our most troubling fears
Riddled with the vapid that holds no meaning
Riddled with the vapid that sparks no feeling
And last, is the consumer, blinded by this varied intrusion.
