Throwback: My First Date
It was a long time ago. I had just come back from my exchange year in spain. I lost so many friends during that time and one of my former best friends called Nana took pity on me and invited me to her birthday party. It was my first real party ever. I was like an angel back in spain.
I went there with no big expectations. Honestly, I was completely underdressed, but it was my first real party. It took place in the party room of some bar. And we had a personal barista to take care of us. Since I was one of the first to arrive, Nana and I had some punch and a nice tequila shot. My first Tequila shot ever.
After a while a couple of people started arriving. Later that night a boy walked up to me and asked for my name. Nana stood behind him and grinned like an idiot. The boy, who was called Eric, and I exchanged numbers and names. He was not really cute, but I guess he looked just fine since he was actually 19 while I was only 16. When he finally walked away, Nana ran towards me and smiled like it was my birthday instead of hers. She told me how proud she was of me for talking to a boy. Like it was super special and I'd never done it before.
The night was finished soon after that, at least for me. Like I said, it was my first party and I thought it would be over at 11 pm.
The following day I got a message. Eric and I agreed to meet each other. I was super afraid because this was my first date ever. And I did not know what to wear.
I told him to meet me at some bus stop several streets away from my house. Truthfully, I did not even tell my Dad about this date. My cover story was a spontaneous movie night with my best friend. Eric picked me up and we drove to a hookah bar. I never smoked a hookah before and those places were only for people who were 18 already. He knew the owner, which resulted in me getting in. We ordered a hookah with watermelon flavor. It was really nice and we talked the whole time. I never have problems with talking, since I always knew something to say.
We stayed there for at least one hour and when we finally drove back home, I even let him drive up to my house. After saying goodbye, I got out of his car and that was it. My first date wasn't even accompanied by a kiss.
We still talked on the phone sometimes, but I knew that he wasn't the right boy for me.
In September our school started some dancing lessons for the upcoming prom and my whole class participated. Since I was new in this class I had nobody to dance with and asked the cousin of my best friend. A friend of mine didn't knew with whom to dance either, and I remembered Eric. I set both of them up and since he wasn't able to go to the classes, she taught him everything at home.
Sadly it didn't work out between them. But I know that I had tried my best.
At prom Eric didn't even say hello to me, and I knew that my first 'fling' was over.
And the morale of the story is to never set up your date with someone else. Even though you both just don't fit together. He will never even acknowledge you as a person.
