A Raven's Call

Raven's point of view

I'm not sure when I began to feel like this, after my marriage with San? During my marriage with San? Or did it date back all the way to college?

My whole life I suffered from FOMO (the fear of missing out) but missing out on what? I don't know, still don't know. I've always felt like there was something the universe wanted me to see, wanted me to know. A person? A place?

I stretch before tossing on my robe. The smell of bacon and fench toast fills the air.

"Mom! Breakfast is ready!"

Such a sweet kid.

I go downstairs to see Rin in her signature kitten apron. I chuckle, she reminds me so much of Char at times. She turns around giving me a big smile.

Fuck her dad, I made that by myself.

Rin: Bacon, eggs and strawberry french toast!
Me: Ouuu, thank you.

We sit at the table eating and talking like every morning. I've been taking less trips now that I finally accepted Cina's offer to work at the hospital. Plus spending more time with Rin is important.

Me: How's you and Wonnie?
Rin: We're great! Tomorrow we're going to see the Demon Slayer movie.
Me: Sounds like fun.
Rin: Wanna' come?

I chuckle.

Me: Honey it's a date, go have fun.
Rin: But I heard Mrs.Santana and Mrs.Cina saying how lonely you've been.

Those heffas.

Me: They're just worried that I'm probably too content on being single.
Rin: Being single isn't a bad thing.
Me: That is very true.

She smiles.

Rin: Although Mr.Hwiyoung was very nice, and a looker.
Me: He was wasn't he? We've been on and off ever since high-school.
Rin: That long! Why?
Me: It seemed to never be the right time.

She jumps up surprising me.

Rin: There's no such thing as the right time mom! You have to make it right.

Have I fell that far from grace to where my eighteen year old lectures me about love?

Rin: Invite him to go get coffee!
Me: Coffee? How cliche.
Rin: Tea?
Me: Boring.
Rin: A drink?
Me: Tacky.
Rin: Mom!

We both laugh.

Me:I'll ask him if he wants coffee or whatever.
Rin: He'll never say yes with that attitude.
Me: You've been spending too much time with San.

She grins playfully.

It feels like I haven't seen him in ages. I mean he's still handsome so there's that, but let's see what else hasn't changed.

Hwiyoung: I was surprised when you called.
Me: Really?
Hwiyoung: Yeah, I barely hear from you these days.
Me: Sorry.
Hwiyoung: No need, I'm here with you now and that's all that matters.

It always amazed me how he could say such things without skipping a beat.

Hwiyoung: Remember when we broke up..-
Me: Which time?
Hwiyoung: When you told everyone I was dead.

Oh.  That time, that time was pretty intense.

Me: They we're spooked to see you first day of senior year.
Hwiyoung: You were so cruel Raven.
Me: Me? You loved me like you hated me half the time.
Hwiyoung: I apologize.
Me: Doesn't matter, that was years ago.

We continue our outing with a quick walk around the park. It's a cool breeze that feels amazing. I've been letting my hair grow again so now it's blowing every which way. I thought of cutting it again but Rin was ranting and raging about how dark my hair was, similar to a Raven's fur so it was pretty and matched my look.

Hwiyoung: How's Rin?
Me: She's good. She's far more responsible than me at that age thats for sure.
Hwiyoung: No on and off again lover?
Me: I feel like her and Wonnie are in for the long run. Plus his mother Santana and I are kind of pushy. If we even find out they're arguing we'll fix it for them.

He laughs a bit.

Hwiyoung: Raven?

I hum.

Hwiyoung: Call me more often.
