Prologue 2

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

Today is the last day of the year and I will present you with the second epilogue :)

I tried to summarize what happened in the past of Jiyang and it might look a little too squeezed if you know what I mean. I didn't want the epilogue to be too big so it turned out to be a long summary. I hope you don't mind and still like it :)

I wish you all a happy new year!! <3 <3

3rd POV

A man was crying in the garden of his house, far away from his wife who was already sleeping. Today marked the day he felt the most hopeless ever since he was born. Not even the car accident on his honeymoon and the resulting blindness of his wife compared to the pain he felt right now.

Everything started about a year ago, on the day of his wife's birthday. The day started so wonderfully. Waking up early to make breakfast for his beloved, bringing it to bed, and waking up his sleeping angel to eat breakfast together before giving in to his wife's seduction resulting in them staying in bed for another two hours. Getting late to work didn't make him feel any regret.

But in the afternoon he got a call from the hospital and found out his wife passed out in the supermarket. He rushed to the hospital to stay by her side. She didn't feel ill and wanted to go home but the doctor's announcement revealed the shocking news of his wife having cancer. It was the slowly growing but persistent kind with no hope of a cure.

Well, that was what the doctor said back then but Feng MingJing, a smart and confident student of Shanghai's top university with a bachelor's degree in science didn't believe there was no chance of healing. In the last two years, he tried everything to create a cure. When he thought he finally made it, tests on dogs with cancer proved him otherwise.

All he managed to do in the last two years was find a cure to help people with lock-in-syndrome to have a chance to wake up. As a scientist, this is a huge discovering and he was even nominated for a grand prize but Feng MingJing didn't care about that. All he cared about was finding a cure for his wife. And exactly that was what he was incapable of.

Now there was no money left to finance his research, he used up everything and there was no cure in sight. Feng MingJing felt sad, and hopeless and was about to lose his sanity.

"It's a bizarre sight to see a grown man crying like a three-year-old toddler." A stranger's voice, cold and spiteful, sounded right next to him. Feng MingJing jumped and moved back.

"Who are you!? What gives you the right to step onto my property? Leave before I will call the police!"

"You look like you gave up to achieve your goal. You claim to love your wife, yet you are already disheartened after two years. I feel sorry for your wife."

"My love for my wife is greater than any other feeling within me! Who are you to judge me? You don't know me, you don't know my wife, you know nothing, you scum!"

The stranger laughed coldly. "Yet you sit here and cry rather than finding a cure for your soon-to-be-dead wife."

"How dare you to insu-!? Feng MingJing suddenly frowned and stepped back. "Who are you!? Why do you know about my wife's illness!? Speak!"

"I know everything I want to know. Your wife hast mostly two more years before you will have to bury her deep in the soil."

"Leave! Fuck off! I will call the police, you bastard!"

"Fine, then. I will leave." The stranger turned around and walked slowly away. "I thought you might be interested in what I have to say but I guess I was mistaken."

"LEAVE INSTANTLY!!"

"For once I had good intentions but ...." The stranger sighed as he walked away. It was strange that Feng MingJing could still hear his voice considering the fact the stranger was far away. "It's a pity you don't welcome me for I have the solution to your problem. I guess you are not interested in saving your wife's life anymore. What a pity. Well then, farewell."

"STOP!" Feng MingJing shouted and run up to the stranger. "What do you mean? You.. you can't possibly have a cure for cancer! No cure exists!!"

"Right, no cure exists in the world of humans. Even in our world, there is such a thing as a cure for cancer. But! There is still one thing left you can do." The stranger's eyes stared into those of Feng MingJi

"W-what... what is... this...?"

"If you turn your wife into a vampire, cancer will vanish. She will never catch a human disease again. She will live for thousands of years. She will be immortal. What do you think?"

"V-vampire's don't exist... y-you freak!" Feng MingJing was strangely scared of the stranger but this feeling was suppressed by the feeling of rage. For a moment he really thought there might be a cure or something even though Feng MingJing knew that was not possible, yet that stranger joked with him mentioning mythical creatures.

"Are you sure?" The stranger grinned and suddenly his eyes started to glow in a fiery red, making Feng MingJing shiver in fear. The latter tried to find a logical reason for the stranger's eyes but he stopped when that man showed his very long and sharp canines.

"If you don't believe it, it's your fault. But if you want to give it a try and grab the last straw of hope, the only thing that can save your wife's life, find Song JiYang, your college friend. He knows how to help you."

"W-w-why should....?"

The stranger laughed. "He is a vampire, Feng MingJing. He is one of us and he can save your wife's life. Isn't he your friend? Shouldn't it be a matter of course for him to help you? Shouldn't he agree to help you and save your wife? If he doesn't, is that really considered a friend? He is your only hope, Feng MingJing. Don't throw away this chance." MingJing fell on the ground when the stranger's eyes glowed even redder before he suddenly disappeared as if he has never been there.

On the spot where the stranger stood just seconds ago was a little bottle with clear liquid in it which Feng MingJing put absentmindedly into his pocket. Without knowing the reason, he knew this would be of great help to him.

Right now, he was too confused and too desperate to save the love of his life to wonder what just happened. He run into the house, grabbed his car keys, and made his way to his friend's house, to beg him for help. He never believed in such things as vampires and he still didn't believe it now, but somehow he was now convinced they existed. Ever since he met that stranger... and that person he wasn't one, what was he?

"He will help me... we are friends... he will surely help me." He mumbled as he drove his car as fast as possible. If he wouldn't have been so desperate and about to lose his mind, he would have thought about what had happened just now some more. Why was he now so convinced that vampires existed? And what if they did? If Feng MingJing thought about everything with a clear mind, he would have figured out that he didn't need his friend's help if the stranger would have done it. But the stranger left just like that instead of helping him.

Song Jiyang was sitting in his little house in front of the fireplace and drunk hot chocolate. One of the many things he loved while staying in the world of humans. Not that in the world of the vampire hot chocolate didn't exist. It was exported there many many years ago but for Song Jiyang it was not the same drinking it over there. Drinking something human's invented in the human world was just ... special, it gave him a warm feeling.

Of course, he couldn't survive by only eating and drinking human food. He needed blood, the blood of his kind would be the best, and he would go and get it whenever he needed some. He couldn't stand animal blood and while human blood did taste okay, the blood of his kind would keep him sated for a lot longer than any other type of blood.

Song Jiyang was now 892 years old and stayed in the human world ever since he came of age and survived his transformation into a vampire. He grew up in a foster family after being abandoned right after his birth, and the only reason he was adopted was to work as a living blood bank for his siblings, one brother, and one sister. Just because they never drank directly from his veins didn't make it less disgusting.

Jiyang became sick just thinking of that.

Anyway, ever since he left there, he stayed here in the world of humans. He loved discovering new things and therefore studied a lot. 120 years ago he studied archaeology and lived in Egypt for quite a while. He was there when Tutankhamun's tomb was found and Song Jiyang even found the tomb of Cleopatra. It was quite big and very beautiful, especially the sarcophagus, and was filled with lots of gold and jewelry. Of course, he never told anyone about his discovery and kept it a secret so the spirit of Cleopatra could rest in peace and she would be protected from the greed of humans.

He returned to China about 3 years ago after traveling around Europe and started studying medicine after he settled down. He studied it once already but that was roughly 200 years back and ever since a lot of things changed.

Suddenly there was a loud and impatient knock on the door. Song Jiyang frowned and looked at the clock.

"Almost 11 pm..." He mumbled and got up to open the door. He didn't expect guests but he still decided to open the door, not knowing he would regret that decision a little later.

"MingJing? What are you doing here? Do you know what time it is?" He greeted the newcomer but instead of an answer, Feng MingJing passed him and entered his house. "Sure, come in..."

MingJing turned around to Jiyang after the latter closed the door. Not wasting any time he confronted him. "You are a vampire."

Jiyang was someone who didn't get surprised by a lot of things and even if he did, he never showed it openly. Even now he managed to keep a normal face.

"Huh? I am a what now?"

"You are a vampire. Don't even try to deny it." He answered seriously and stared into his friend's eyes.

"Did you drink?" Jiyang asked.

"Stop playing, Song Jiyang. I know what you are!" MingJing answered annoyed. "I won't judge you for who you are nor for you not telling me about yourself. You can make up for it by helping me."

"MingJing, you-"

"Save my wife, Jiyang! I beg you! You know she is sick. She has cancer and nothing can cure it. But if you turn her into a vampire, she will be cured. Turn her, Jiyang."

"MingJing, I think you are dru-"

"I am not drunk!!" Feng MingJing shouted angrily. "I thought you are my friend!? Is it too much to ask for? All I want is for you to save my wife, Jiyang. I BEG YOU!!"

Song Jiyang stared at his friend and then sighed. He didn't know how his friend knew about his nature. Did Jiyang make a mistake? But that couldn't be, could it? He lived in the human world for almost half a millennium. There was no way he somehow revealed himself.

But it was obvious that his friend wouldn't accept an excuse whatsoever.

"Why do you think I am what you think I am, MingJing?"

"Someone told me."

"Who?"

"I don't know him and I don't care who he is. I only care about saving my wife!"

"Are you nuts? I tell you I am not a vampire, but you don't believe me, your friend? Just because a stranger tells you something, you believe it? A stranger!?"

"I can't explain it either. But I believe him. You are a vampire and if you would just turn my wife into one, she will be saved. I am your friend, Jiyang. Please... save her..."

Song Jiyang frowned hearing his friend's words. That stranger that approached him must have been one of his kind. And he manipulated his friend's mind. No wonder he believed Jiyang's nature. "I can't save her, MingJing."

"YES, YOU CAN!! You are a vampire, you just have to turn her! I won't tell anyone about you, I swear. Just help me this one time. Is this too much to ask for!?"

Jiyang shook his head. "MingJing, first of all, I am not allowed to turn people into one of my kind. If it was, do you think there would be any humans left? Secondly, did you ask your wife if she wants to be turned? You can't just ask me to turn her simply because you don't want to be separated from her. Just because a human is dying, doesn't mean someone, the least a vampire, can decide over the dying person's life."

"I don't want to lose her, Jiyang, I beg you...." Feng MingJing fell to his knees. "Please, save her..."

"Do you think she would be happy to be one of my kind? Never aging and seeing the people she loves die in front of her?"

Feng MingJing was looking at the ground but hearing Song Jiyang's words made him look into the latter's eyes. "Then turn me too!"

"Feng MingJing!!!" Sing Jiyang hissed. "Are you even listening to yourself?"

"I won't leave here until you agreed, Jiyang!"

Song Jiyang took a deep breath. "MingJing, do you think turning someone into my kind is easy and without risks? Do you think a transformation into my kind will succeed no matter what? It is not easy! It hurts like hell! And a transformation from human to vampire has no guarantee of success. Roughly 60 to 70 % of humans will die during the process!"

"Which means there is a 30 to 40 % chance of success. Jiyang, you can-"

"NO!" Now Song Jiyang was at the end of his patience. "I won't turn anyone into my kind! Instead of asking me the impossible, go home and spend time with your wife. I am sure that is what she wants as well."

"Jiyang, I thought you were my friend..."

"I am, MingJing. And as a friend, I will tell you that it's better like this. I save you and your wife from tormenting." Song Jiyang looked into his friend's eyes and his eyes started to glow. "MingJing, you will leave now, go home to your wife, and spend time with her. You will forget what happened tonight."

"I beg you one last time, Jiyang, please... please help me!"

Song Jiyang frowned. 'Why did it not work? I tried to delete his memories but why....?'

"Very well..." He grabbed one of the fireplace tools and hit his friend on the head. Jiyang fell to the ground, he was dizzy for a moment and he would surely recover within the next 30 seconds but suddenly his friend pour something into his face, making Song Jiyang lose all his strength. Then something was pressed against his face and soon the vampire lost consciousness.

Song Jiyang didn't know how Feng MingJing found out about the effect of holy water on vampires. Maybe that stranger helped him. It didn't kill them but could weaken them enormously, especially used on young ones. Jinyang might have been over 800 years but he still counted as young until he reached the age of 1.000.

After kidnapping the young vampire, MingJing chained and locked him up in his cellar. Usually, it wouldn't be a problem to break free but due to the holy water in which the chains have been dunk in, Song Jiyang could barely move.

Ever since he was locked up there, Feng MingJing came frequently to beg Jiyang over and over again to turn his wife and himself into a vampire, with no success. Jiyang was stubborn. Maybe stubborn was not the right word. He was only a law-abiding citizen. He did understand why a human would like to be one of his kind. Immortality was something many humans coveted. Maybe that was one of the reasons why vampires agreed to leave the human world a long time ago.

Song Jiyang has been staying alone in that dark cellar with no windows for so long. As there was no way to tell the time, the vampire didn't know for sure how long he has been there. MingJing left after he couldn't make Jiyang agree to the transformation. The latter thought that his friend would hopefully finally understand and set him free. Then Jiyang could leave the city and only return once he is sure it was safe.

But that has been wishful thinking. Little did he know what would await him.

After a long time, Feng MingJing came back and in Song Jiyang's eyes, he looked crazier than before. The kidnapper looked at his victim for a while, literally staring at him. His facial expression changed multiple times. But then he took out a test tube and put gloves above his head.

Jiyang first didn't know what he planned to do. MingJing demanded a few more times to be turned but when Jiyang still refused, MingJing went to work. He approached the vampire and did the unbelievable before he left once more.

It's been has been a few weeks since Feng MingJin has shown himself in the cellar. Which was a good thing because Jiyang didn't know what he would do once he saw him. He probably couldn't do much ....

He was getting weaker. Not only because of the holy water but also because of hunger. It has been about 5 months since he last drank. Vampire blood saturated another vampire for a long time but not forever. But no matter how hungry Jiyang was, he probably wouldn't be able to get something down. The images of what MingJing did to him were still haunting him. He could still feel MingJing's hand on him.

He never imagined something like this would ever happen to him. He thought MingJing believed that enough of Jiyang's blood would help him to turn his wife. He thought that MingJing approached him to take his blood. Yet, that man took something entirely else. And the moment MingJing took off Jiyang's pants, the latter knew what all this was about.

Jiyang shuddered and tried to ignore the still vivid feeling of MingJing's hand. He tried to fight down the images of that day. When he screamed, cursed, and begged.... nothing helped. MingJing ignored him and filled his test tube with as much of Jiyang's seeds as he thought he needed.

Jiyang felt dirty.

Of course, he knew what this all was about. MingJing had the crazy belief that artificial fertilization would make his wife give birth to a vampire who could turn both of them. MingJing didn't even mind cheating on his wife like this, only for the sake to cure her. For a moment, Jiyang thought about revealing the truth to MingJing. The truth about the fact that his plan wouldn't work.

Because of two reasons which were simple but unbeknownst to MingJing. A vampire can produce and conceive children only after reaching the age of 1000. Jiyang, however, was only 892 and therefore not able to produce. That and the fact that artificial fertilization didn't work with vampires. These were the law of mother nature that would save Jiyang from becoming a father. To make MingJing stop and get away from him, Jiyang was about to reveal this to him.

But then he changed his mind. For one, because MingJing was out of his mind right now and so confident about his plan, he wouldn't believe anything Jiyang would say. Another reason was pure thoughts of revenge.

'Why not let that son of bitch keep hoping until he turns even crazier? And then, when I have enough fun watching him wallow in despair, I will reveal the truth and laugh.' That was Jiyang's thoughts. He had nothing to lose anyway. He didn't even mind dying as long as he could see MingJing's desperate face. He wanted revenge!

A few weeks later MingJing visited Jiyang, looking in a gloating way while telling him about the success of artificial fertilization. Jiyang was shocked as it couldn't be. He thought MingJing either lied to make himself feel better or he finally lost it completely. After announcing the success, he left again and, except for bringing him human blood to drink, didn't return until months later.

Due to his good hearing, he heard everything done upstairs. His wife indeed was pregnant and clueless about what MingJing had done to her and about Jiyang's presence in the cellar. Of course, Jiyang could have yelled for help but he was sure it wouldn't help him. MingJing would probably give an excuse and his wife, who was blind, would believe everything MingJing told her.

Months later, Jiyang, who was once again very weak due to his hunger, heard a door open and shut with a loud bang. A baby was crying and he heard MingJing cursing as he rumbled down the stairs and opened the door to the cellar with another loud bang.

"You fucking bastard!! It's your fault. You took her from me!! YOU AND YOUR BASTARD OF A CHILD TOOK HER FROM ME!!" He screamed and glared at Jiyang with wide-opened eyes full of hate.

For a moment, the vampire was confused.

"YOUR BASTARD OF A SON KILLED MY WIFE!!" He screamed furiously and threw the basket with the crying baby in it, on the table close to him. The baby continued to scream. Jiyang took a look at the child and laughed. He laughed loudly and couldn't stop despite feeling hungry and weak.

"You-!!" MingJing raced toward Jiyang and hit him multiple times. "HOW DARE YOU LAUGH!!? MY WIFE IS DEAD!!"

Jiyang didn't answer and continued to laugh. MingJing was glaring at him for a while until he widened his eyes in understanding.

"You knew..." He whispered. "You knew it would happen. You knew that giving birth to your child would kill her, didn't you!? YOU KNEW IT?" MingJing kicked Jiyang over and over again.

"I didn't..." Jiyang spat. "Usually women giving birth to vampires don't kill them. But your wife was sick, to begin with."

"YOU KILLED HER! YOU BASTARD OF A CHILD KILLED HER!!" He raged with anger, despair, and sadness. Jiyang felt no pity. Instead, he was amused which increased when he heard the next words of MingJing.

"Your laughter will go away soon enough, Song Jiyang. You and especially your child will pay for this! Once he is old enough, I will make him bite me. The moment I am turned, I will kill this bastard! That is the only reason I will keep you alive. I will kill him in front of your eyes and then I will kill you. I don't know how, yet but I will find a way!! Mark my words!!"

Jiyang laughed again. This was all too funny.

"Keep laughing, you bastard. Don't think I will treat your son kindly. He will be my servant, my sandbag. I will treat him like shit and he would still have to listen to me!" MingJing yelled and then grinned. "Oh, maybe I should make him kill you? Being killed by his own flesh and blood... JUST LIKE MY WIFE!!"

"I didn't kill her, Feng MingJing, nor did that child kill her. It was you! You artificially inseminated her and that poor woman didn't even know what you did to her. Because of your greed, you lost what you love the most."

"SHUT UP!!!" MingJing screamed and kicked Jiyang again, over and over. "You killed her using your son! But you just wait. You will pay for that. And this disgusting bastard too! I won't let you see him again, Jiyang. Not until the day I will kill you both!!"

MingJing left with the crying child and Jiyang laughed loudly. Funny. It was so very funny.

Not the part with that woman dying, of course. That poor woman was innocent. All she ever did was trust the man she loved so much. Jiyang didn't know how MingJing did it but he probably sedated his wife and then artificially inseminated her. And that poor woman didn't know what her beloved husband did to her. And then she even died while giving birth. But then again, it was probably the best. Dying now means she would never find out the disgusting things MingJing did to her and everyone else.

The funny part of all that happened and made Jiyang laugh like crazy was because the child, that crying brat the poor woman gave birth to was, as expected, not Jiyang's child.

It MingJing's from the beginning!

He must have fathered his wife without none of them knowing and then, when he artificially inseminated her and the pregnancy was announced, he thought it was Jiyang's child.

Jiyang started laughing again. Now MingJing would torture that brat, his own flesh and blood, the son of his beloved wife and him, and make his life miserable. Albeit Jiyang knew that the child was innocent and did nothing wrong, Jiyang stopped pitying others. It was karma that gave that brat a father like FengMing Jing. He would have to deal with it.

'This is going to be fun...'

Feng MingJing came down to the cellar only once every few months for two things. First, he took a lot of blood from the already weak Jiyang before giving him new blood from a human to drink. As MingJing was a scientist he had many ways to get his hands on blood yet he always used the blood of the same person. Every blood had a different taste but Jiyang always drank the blood that had the same taste as the one from before.

Jiyang seriously didn't have an idea what MingJing was up to. He wasn't much interested in that anyway. All Jiyang could do was sit weakly in the cellar, chained up and listening to the noises upstairs. Furious shouts, curses, screams, and cries.... Jiyang heard it all but he felt no pity whatsoever.

The days turned to weeks, the weeks turned to months and the months turned to years. Jiyang didn't know how much time went by ever since he was locked up. He lost his sense of time. And with time passed, the noises downstairs quieted down. At some point, he didn't hear anything anymore. They left the house, only MingJing came every few months to draw Jiyang's blood and give him human blood to drink. But even that stopped one day.

When MingJing didn't come when it was time for his appearance, Jiyang was surprised. MingJing wouldn't just forget about Jiyang. Did something happen? Did he die?

Jiyang waited a few more weeks but no one came. He was hungry and very weak. If he wouldn't eat within the next few days, he would surely die. He almost lost hope when he heard voices upstairs. Voices he never heard before.

Could he be saved?

to be continued...
