Part Two
Jessica woke up. She ate some breakfast and decided to watch some TV to get her mind off the messages in the bottle. She didn't want to ponder about them and watching her favorite movie, I Fell in Love with a Werewolf was an excellent idea. Brad Wolfram and Natalie Portman were on their date eating a pizza when the doorbell rang.
"Oh my God, it had to be before he got bitten," Jessica grumbled as she walked away to see who was at the door. It was a mail carrier.
"This package is for you," the mail carrier said. He was brown, tall and muscular. He was also bald.,
"Oh," Jessica said surprised.
"Sign here," the mail carrier said handing her a form.
"What is this?" She asked curiously.
"I don't know. Just sign here that you received it and that I delivered," he said. Jessica took the pen he was handing to her and she signed the form. The mail carrier bobbed his head and gave her the package.
"Thank you... I suppose," she said uncertain. The mail carrier waved at her and left. Jessica noticed that her name was in the box, but it didn't have the name or the address of the person who sent it to her.
"Odd," she said to herself. She opened the package and there was an envelope the size of a booklet.
"Why use all of this box just for an envelope?" She asked herself. She frowned, but decided to open the envelope and inside she found an invitation to the castle.
"What? This has to be a lie," she said to herself, but there it was and she was invited to go to the castle that night. Would she go? Should she go? There was something strange though, despite it being an invitation, her name wasn't on it, so how did she really know if she was invited to the castle or not? Well, she decided she was going to find out.
The invitation was kind of strange because it stated that it was an informal meeting. What did that mean? She hesitated and didn't even know what on Earth she was going to wear. She decided, why not? If it wasn't true then she could just return to her home. Maybe this was all a big mistake anyway. So, when the night came, she went into her room, took out a nice red dress from the hanger with matching shoes.
"I think this looks nice," she said looking at herself in the mirror. She put her make up on, not too much, but enough to make her glow. She had some fancy litmus earrings that she thought would look very nice with a bracelet and necklace that matched. She twirled in the mirror.
"Oh, you look wonderful," she said to herself and winked. Then, she looked for a purse, not a small one or one too, big, but a medium sized one where she could put in her lipstick, her mobile phone and some paperback for her as she traveled. The good thing about not driving is that she had that time to read. Sometimes though, it wasn't good to read while you were driving, sometimes you felt a little dizzy, but when the car stopped, then you could take a one minute read and that's what Jessica used to do. Unless there was good music on. Then she would start moving her neck and shoulders and do a sitting dance. Anyway, it was night time, so she hoped she could have good music in the taxi. She called the cab and got in after a long wait. The cab driver stared at her with admiration, but he didn't say a thing until halfway to the castle.
"Mam... I hope this doesn't offend you, but you look very beautiful," he said. Jessica smiled and thanked the man. She was confident. She knew she looked beautiful, with her long wavy hair loose, her matching jewelry and shoes. She felt beautiful.
"Why thank you," she replied. They finally reached the castle which was over a hill and Jessica paid the cab driver.
"If you need anything, call me here," the cab driver said handing over a card. She looked at it.
"Okay..."she said with some doubt in her voice.
"That's my personal number," he said. Jessica nodded.
"Okay. Good luck," he said and she noticed that he seemed kind of nervous. He nodded his head a few times and urgently left when she got off the taxi. She looked at the castle. It towered menacingly above the hill. It kind of looked dark and strange, but she shrugged her shoulders and headed to the castle. When she reached the gate, she noticed it was locked with a padlock.
"Okay... this is weird. If I'm invited then..." she stopped talking when she saw the padlock click open and unlock itself.
"What?" She said. She looked inside the gate to see if there was somebody there, then she tilted her head sideways and looked behind her thinking that maybe it was a joke.
"Must be one of those new technological padlocks with sensor gadgets or something..." she said to herself. She knew that padlocks didn't unlock all by themselves. She fidgeted with the padlock and opened the gate. It was heavy, so it took her a lot of strength to open just a little space for her to barely fit. She squeezed herself inside and then reached the huge doors. There were gargoyles carved on them.
"What a weird castle," she thought. She grabbed the door knocker and knocked. She heard an echo as the door opened all by itself.
"Wow. The king certainly has a bunch of gadgets in the castle. Maybe I'll ask him about them," she said to herself. Everything inside the castle was dark.
"Okay... so he's got a bunch of gadgets to open doors, but no electricity... this... doesn't kind of add up," she said. She rummaged around her purse until she found her mobile phone. She turned the light on to see where she was going. In a flash, the face of an old man appeared to her and she shouted. The lights in the castle went on. Her heart beat fast.
"Jesus!" She exclaimed.
"Are you the pleb who wrote to me?" He asked her. He had scrunchy eyebrows, a short nose and blue eyes. His face was so close to her that she could almost kiss him. She moved her head back and then he moved away from her personal space. She took a deep breath.
"Yes," she replied.
"Oh. It's nice to meet you," he said. He looked at her and she felt strange, like if he was examining her.
"So... I was invited to an informal meeting," she said.
"Oh... yes... follow me," he said. She noticed that the was very tall, but that he limped. His crown was had rubies and emeralds. Jessica slowed her pace to be polite with the King. He guided her to the dinning room. She noticed a long rectangular black table filled with food.
"You're probably starving since you're nothing but a pleb," he said. Jessica frowned. What the hell was wrong with him and the plebs? Didn't he serve the plebs in the first place. She sat down and thanked him for the invitation, but felt a little uncomfortable.
"You're dress looks nice, for a poor person," he said arrogantly. She looked at him and frowned.
"Well, it's better than that shirt you have on," Jessica said annoyed. It sort of came out unexpectedly. She didn't want to say something rude like that, but the King was being so nasty with her that she responded with the same arrogance. He did not like that.
"What did you say?'' He asked her. She opened her mouth to answer, but a servant came into the dinning room interrupting the conversation and bringing the drinks.
"I hope you enjoy them," the servant said. She bowed at the king and then left. Jessica grabbed the glass and drank. The King looked quietly at her as she drank. Jessica had this unnerving feeling as if he was examining her every movement. What on Earth was wrong with this man? She wondered. She looked at him grab a fork and eat. She noticed that he ate Salmon with a salad. She tried to eat with him, but her stomach formed knots. There was something about him she didn't like. She tried not to judge and tried not to feel uncomfortable, but it was inevitable.
"I bet the food's better than what you've ever eaten in your life," he said. This guy was such an arrogant son of a bitch. What was his problem.
"Well, actually, I eat fresh lobsters, fish and crabs. They are the best. I catch them on the beach where I live and sometimes I drink coconut milk that I make myself. If you'd ever want a taste, let me know, King," she replied. The king sneered at her.
"Oh really... so you have no purchasing power then. You have to catch these fish on your own... how sad," he replied. Jessica cleared her throat. She had enough of this asshole.
"Well actually, catching them is a wonderful adventure," she said. Then she smiled. The King didn't like this. He focused on the food and stopped talking to her.
"What the hell is this guy's problem," Jessica thought to herself. The king wasn't at all what she thought he would be. He had tried to demean her every step of the way. She ate and suddenly he criticized her that she didn't know how to pick up a fork and if she said something he had a smart ass comment about everything she said. She was starting to tire of the man, so she told him she was going to leave.
"Leave? Now? But we still have so much to discuss," he said. She frowned.
"I think we've discussed enough," Jessica replied.
"Well, I don't think so," he replied with a sneer. What the fuck was wrong with this guy? Jessica thought.
"Your highness, I have to do other things and I'm sure that you are a busy man as well... it's already late, so... your castle is very nice, but I have to go," Jessica said.
"You like the castle? Really? I would love to show you the rooms in the castle. I'm sure you'll love the game room," he said. Was he insane? Suddenly he was all nice. Jessica hesitated.
"Look, I have to go," she said.
"Well, I am the King, so I order you to stay," he said. Jessica crossed her arms.
"Are you serious?" She asked him. He didn't reply.
"You can't hold me against my will. Who the hell do you think you are?" Jessica asked him. Suddenly he grabbed her and his fangs grew long and sharp.
"The King," he replied sinking his teeth on her neck. Jessica's eyes shut and she lost consciousness. Everything turned dark.
