Chapter 3
As the deafening sound of the school bell rang again at the end of the day, Giulia packed her bags as quickly as possible and after a rushed goodbye to Lucas she left the monstruous and classic brick buildings at a quick pace, impatient to get to her Aunt's house.
Finally, she arrives, and a woman with striking beauty was awaiting her outside the wooden and carved front door. Her pitch black hair fell forming waves, creating costrast with her pale skin. She was almost identical to her older sister, although Matilda's hair fell to form golden curls and her skin was not as beautifully pale as Melody's.
"Giulia! Hi!"she says very loudly, already getting into her cherry red sports car.
"Hello, Aunt Melody!" says Giulia, also entering the car.
"Ready?" said Melody, energetically.
"Of course!" said Giulia, just as excited.
They zoomed past the ancestral houses, all framing the city of Rose Ville. Minutes later, they had arrived.
Giulia looked up admiringly at the magnificent old-fashioned building, with large gold letters engraved on the cement at the very top that read:
ROSE VILLE POLICE FORCE
JUSTICE. FREEDOM. SAFETY.
At last, she was where she belonged.
As they went in, words of pleasure at her return, after the long summer, greeted Giulia. All around them, was a continuous sound of buzzing as officers, generals, detectives all rushed around trying to get somewhere, or talk to a desired person. Giulia beamed at all of them, as she passed, convinced that there was no place in the world with such energy. She and Melody walked past the offices, each with a golden name tag, that beared their occupant's name in the center.
At last they reached the one that read;
MELODY CAIR
Police Officer, First Class
Detective, Second Class
As they went in, Melody started to talk at once, about the new re opened case.
"Your father, Lewis, is the lawyer of this lady called Clara Talon. She is apparently a long lost cousin of this man called Flynn Dowing that was murdered long ago. She just found out of her cousin's death and came to retrieve the possesions in his will."
She was speaking rapidly, moving around the room, "But another cousin named Tyrell Gunner, was summoned to take his part of the will, and now they are fighting to see who gets the most precious objects. "
"Who was the murderer?" asked Giulia, with much interest.
"This man called Miller Ashwin." answered Melody, "They used to be partners in this bussiness. But Flynn decided to leave and create his own, much more sucessful, company. The only thing caught in the security camera was Miller's sillhouette. It was unmistakeably his own, I have never meet anyone else with that tall, and muscular built."
She was now reading from a yellow file on her massive, wooden desk, to get the details, "Miller was left unemployed and depending on his wife's salary. She was a recognized doctor, at the time."
"Where is she now?" asked Giulia, getting more intriged by the minute.
"After her husband died in prison, she left to teach medicine in Croatia." said Melody, still reading from the papers inside the file.
Before any of them could say anything else, there was blasting sound as an alarm rang, much louder than the school bell, this a was booming, high-pitched sound. Fear for her niece, but determination dominated Melody's lovely face, and Giulia had a blazing look in her eyes.
They ran downstairs, to find the entrance hall filled with people. The intruder had obviously just escaped, many police officers were sprinting out the door all shouting things at eachother, as the loud sound of sirens started and police cars sped away.
There was a moment of silence and then more yelling. Melody edged her way towards the center of the commosion, Giulia closely behind her. As they reached the middle of the entrance hall, Giulia clasped a hand to her mouth.
There, lying on the floor, compleately motionless was the figure of young woman. All life gone from her eyes, she had blood covering her from head to foot. The image was horrifying, but that did not stop Giulia from getting closer. As they got nearer and nearer, Melody picked up a piece of coal black paper, with a single white drawing of it. The drawing of a sillhouette. The drawing of his sillhouette. Incredibly sturdy, there was no mistaking it was Miller Ashwin's.
There was a blast of a gunshot, as glass shattered, and before Giulia could see anything else she was dragged to the ground, to safety. She heard a heavy thud, and then silence, where you could hear a pin drop. Sirens ruled the room as more police cars sped away. As people recovered from the shock, and Giulia got up, there was more terrified screams. Another body was lying on the ground, all life drained from it. This one had a scarlett stain on his chest, the bullet had come in from a window, which was now in pieces.
The same pitch black paper, as before, was laying on the corpse, with the same mysterious drawing of Miller Ashwin's dead sillhouette.
Later that day, it was almost certain. Miller Ashwin had faked his death and escaped from prison. But, they had not yet confirmed with Black Hill, Rose Ville's prison, and Giulia had an ugly feeling in her stomach that it was not that simple.
