Chapter 9. 7 Seconds

It takes seven seconds.

Seven seconds for it all to be officially over.

He wouldn't have to hear it all... he wouldn't have to do it anymore.

He wouldn't have to hear the names... the accusations... maybe a few seconds of agony, but that's it. He wouldn't have to find a way to cope with everything. He wouldn't have all of his scars, and he wouldn't have to fight.

Percy's hand closed around the pills, their smooth surface lightly brushing against his skin. He shifted slightly and the pills moved in his closed fist, as if they were anxious to go somewhere other then his enclosed palm. Whether it be his mouth, down the drain, or back in the container.

He took in a deep breath and slowly looked up at himself in the mirror, staring at his reflection. The bruises, the scars, the scabs... It was like God had accidentally spilled the whole bottle of 'crap' when he was making him. He was the definition of imperfect.

Then something tugged him. Something of a little tiny fist that could barely grasp the thick cloth of his coat.

Slowly he looked towards the direction, but saw nothing.

Another tug.

Percy glanced down and his eyes widened. His mouth dropped slightly and his tight grasp on the pills loosened. One by one the smooth pills slipped from his hand, colliding with the ground in a series of clattering.

He was staring face to face... with... himself.

But it wasn't... him him. It was little six year old him. He looked... happy. Curious, and a little troubled. His blue eyes shone with all three of those emotions as he looked up at him.

"You were gonna use these?" little Percy, let's call him Perce, bent down and slowly picked up the pills.

Percy slowly nodded.

"Why?" Perce whispered. "I... why would someone want to do this to themselves?"

Perce lifted the pills to the light and looked at them.

"You know how you get better?" he looked up at Percy and smiled.

Percy shook his head.

"You imagine everything positive, and better! Like... like these!" he held out the pills. "Imagine you chose something more positive. Like... like blueberries! That's it! Momma always said a healthy snack, a healthy body."

He popped one into his mouth and Percy quickly reached out to stop him, but Perce just smiled at him, a blue tint staining his teeth.

Percy frowned slightly, tilting his head in confusion.

"Try one!" Perce held out the now blueberries, dropping them into Percy's hand. "You have a whole packet of them! Uh- basket- no," Perce frowned, tapping his jaw as he thought.

Percy cocked his head to one side.

Perce just smiled again and picked up a bowl of blueberries that had taken the place of the pills.

"Now don't think I'm saying the pills are a sweet thing." Perce hummed. "I'm just saying, choose the blueberries over death pills. Choose positive over negative. There's good in everything."

Percy shook his head.

"Why are you so sad?"

Percy looked at the ground.

"Come on." Perce held out his hand.

Hesitantly Percy took smaller-his hand. He held onto the blueberries tight as Perce dragged him off, heading straight for the wall.

Percy instinctively pulled back, taking his hand out of Perce's.

Perce glanced back at him and smiled, "It's okay. Trust me."

When he smiled it wasn't anything fake... it was... genuinely happy. His eyes smiled when he did, and his whole face made this happy little kid face. Like he had just gotten icecream or something. His face was bright and shone with optimism.

Slowly Percy walked back over to him, slowly taking his hand. He glanced at their arms.

Perce followed his gaze.

He bit his lip and took his other tiny, tiny little hand and placed it on top of Percy's. He looked up at him and smiled.

"Blueberries." he said softly. He gently ran his hand over the bandages before taking them and slowly unwrapping them.

Percy was expecting to see a bloody mess, but... there was nothing. No scars, no bruises, his skin was clear.

Perce smiled happily and proceeded to do the same with his other arm.

"Ouchies are bad." Perce said. "I don't like ouchies. They always make me cry."

He reached up, spreading his arms with a wide smile.

A ghost of a smile appeared on Percy's lips and he picked up younger him, nuzzling him.

Perce just giggled, wrapping his arms around his neck and hugging him. When he pulled away he just smiled knowingly.

"Can you talk to me?" He asked.

Percy shook his head.

"Please try, for me? Pleeassee?"

Hesitantly Percy took in a breath. "P..."

"Yes?" Perce grinned widely.

"Pe....Percy...." he said slowly. There was no trouble. There was no barrier. "I... E.... Oh... my... God... I..."

"Blueberries. Positive. If you really want to talk, you can try. And if you have the ability to try, you have the ability to smile. Smiling is a good kind of blueberry. It's that..."

"Big juicy one you find hidden at the bottom of the bowl." Percy whispered.

"Yeah." Perce grinnned. "Now through the wall!"

"I don't know..."

"Come onn I wanna show you something!"

"...Alright."

Still carrying little him Percy slowly walked towards the wall, slowly placing his foot first. But instead of knocking into something solid it went right through.

Cautiously Percy made his way through the wall, step by step. As each body part entered the wall it rippled and wavered, like he was stepping into a pond. Only what he was entering was much more interesting then a pond.

Percy stumbled when he reached the other side. He wrapped his arms around younger him and smashed into the wall.

Perce looked at him with concern, "Are you okay?"

Percy nodding, swallowing. He slowly set Perce down and straightened, looking around.

He frowned, looking at Perce.

"Our Kindergarten class!" Perce grinned. "See? We're finger painting!" he pointed to the other side of the room where, indeed, they were finger printing. Or, he, or, agh.

Right next to him stood a dark haired boy, laughing along with him and messing up his painting. In return... younger then younger Perce- Kindergarten Perce (K.P.) splashed his whole hand in the paint and splattered it across the other boy's canvas. He dipped his other finger in blue and painted the other boy's face, grinning widely.

Perce slowly sat in one of the tiny munchkin chairs as Percy walked over to the finger painting class.

"I don't remember this..." he whispered.

"It's a blueberry moment." Perce smiled.

Percy looked back at him. "That's Nico... right next to me, isn't it?"

"Yeep! Oh we're the bestest of friends. Him, me, Leo, and Jason. And some other peeps." Perce swung his feet forward and backward underneath the chair, smiling.

Percy looked back at the other two kids. The two paintings didn't really resemble anything. K.P. seemed to have been working on an actual drawing, but it was long gone by now.

"Percy!" Percy's head snapped to the sound of his name, but it was just Kindergarten Nico.

Younger Nico laughed, grabbing K.P.'s arms so he couldn't paint his face anymore.

"You were happy, we were happy." Perce murmured. "It was simpler times."

"I don't get the point of this." Percy looked at Perce. "A couple years from now all this happiness will disappear. It's... pointless."

"I healed your physical wounds." Perce whispered, walking towards him. The scene around them seemed to freeze and Perce got up on his tippytoes and reached up as high as his little fingers could go, brushing his hand over where Percy's heart lay.

"But your heart still aches..." Percy looked up at him. "That friend... that friend you painted... all these friends around here... Bianca, Calypso... Thalia... all of them... they want to repair what I cannot. It's killing you... we just want to help."

"You can't do anything." Percy whispered. "Time doesn't heal all wounds..."

"People can. But you have to want it. You have to want to see the light."

"I want to see it... just not the light you're talking about."

"Please don't do this to us." Perce said softly. "I don't want you to die..." tears welled up in his eyes.

"Please..." his voice broke. "There's hope... there's always hope."

The freeze frame ended and Percy gently picked up Perce, wrapping his arms around him.

"Please don't die." Perce whispered, hugging him.

Percy said nothing.

Meanwhile K.P. and K.N. were now chasing each other around. The both of them ran straight past Percy and Perce, almost going straight through them. Taken by surprise, and usually used to a physical contact, Percy fell.

Perce yelped.

"Percy get up!"

"Wha...?"

"Get up! Get up!"

Percy closed his eyes, shaking his head.

"WAKE UP!"

(Fact Check: for something on the softer side like yogurt or cereal it takes about 4-6 seconds to reach your stomach. Not to digest, to reach it. But if it's more on the solid side it's 7,8, or 9 seconds.

Now it raises the question: What is everything that happened? ;)

Also if it's crappy I'm really sorry. If the concept is mixed I'm really sorry.

Its Midnight on a school night so.

XD

Night everyone! I luv you!

And hey if any of you go out and buy blueberries tell me xD)
