Chapter 1. A Bet
"You'll take any bet?" Jason smirked, taking a sip of his beer.
"Any bet." Nico confirmed.
"I dare you to... find someone in the school who doesn't like you/have a crush on you, and make them fall in love with you."
"And you'll be my servant for an entire month? Do whatever I say if I accomplish this?" Nico raised an eyebrow.
"Yep." Jason nodded, "Just one more thing."
"What?"
"It can't be Percy, Piper, or Reyna."
"Fine."
"Ah, why would he wanna go out with any of 'em anyway?" Leo scoffed. "Percy= Anti-social emo nerd . Piper= Popular wanna-be. Reyna= Kiss-up slut."
Instead of commenting Nico pretended to be interested in his beer's label as Jason and Leo went into these gigantic rants about everything that was wrong with those three. Personally Nico didn't think they were that bad, actually liked them; but did his opinion matter? No. He was just the pretty face that could wink and everything would magically be okay.
But now he was just rambling. In his own mind.
Man he really needed to stop doing that. It made him seem insane.
Well no one else could really tell that he was talking to himself in his mind or narrating his own life--
Now he was sure he was mental.
"Neeks?" Leo poked him, jerking him out of his random thoughts.
Nico looked over, "Huh?"
"I asked you a question."
"Right, right. What was it again?"
"Which one you hated the most."
"Oh." he shrugged.
"I hate Percy the most." Jason took another sip. "He's just... ugh. I just don't like the dude."
Well no shit Sherlock it's not like you pick on him everday. Nico thought; though he decided it may be best just to keep that remark to himself. So instead he went with:
"Is it because in grade school he took away all your attention by his 'odd and mysterious behavior'?"
"No," Jason scoffed. "I don't hold grudges for that long."
"Sure." Leo rolled his eyes.
"I don't!"
"Yeah Jason, we all believe you." Nico shook his head in amusement.
"Whatever."
-----
He flew to the ground, tumbling into the lockers without a word. He screwed his eyes shut, silently begging for it to stop. He clenched his gauze-covered hands, praying that there wasn't any visible blood.
"Stand up!" Jason snapped. Before Percy had a chance to do anything at all, Jason grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and yanked him up onto his feet.
Percy leaned against the lockers the moment Grace let go of his shirt. He opened his eyes to look at them through his hair.
"I wonder..." Leo reached forwards to brush the hair from his face to see his eyes, but that was one thing that Percy wouldn't accept. He'd rather jump off a cliff than let anyone look at him eye to eye.
He grabbed Leo's arm, kneeing him in the stomach and twisting so he could throw Valdez over his shoulder and onto the ground. His body smashed down onto the floor, landing with a loud thud.
Immediately Grace lashed out, using his foot to smash Percy against the lockers. He kept one hand on his chest to hold Percy against the lockers. The other hand wrapped around Percy's neck, squeezing it violently.
Percy gasped, mouth opening. He strained and struggled for his breath, his air supply getting dangerously low. He didn't know exactly how long he was held in that position. All he knew is that it was long enough to make him dizzy and see black spots.
"Let go of him before you kill the boy!"
The hand around Percy's throat loosened; loosened just enough for him to rip out of Jason's grip.
Percy fell to the ground, coughing violently as he fought for oxygen.
"Nico, why you gotta ruin my fun?" Jason whined. "Few more seconds and it would've been lights out for that dork!"
"You were so busy on trying to kill him that you didn't even check on your friend!" Nico snapped, helping Leo up.
Of course. Percy thought, drawing in a trembling breath. He had been saved not for his life, but for their friend's life.
Nico barely glanced his way, not even checking to make sure that he was alright. Sometimes Percy just didn't understand the Prince's mind.
Would anyone ever believe that the two boys used to be inseparable? No, of course not. He doubted Nico even remembered him. Just another bitter sweet memory to go into his 'room of pain.'
The school bell rung, piercing Percy's eardrums. Man he hated that bell. It was so weird, more like a buzzing sound than anything. It was the kind of bell you'd play in case there were some crazy ass world disaster going on, like the zombie apocalypse.
Getting to his feet Percy collected his books, finally being able to breath correctly. He walked past the group of boys, who, were still trying to make sure Leo hadn't broken or bruised anything. Really Percy hadn't meant to harm Leo; it had been more of a self defense move if anything.
As he passed Nico he could've sworn that he looked at him. He could've sworn he had seen his eyes move towards him. Could've sworn that he had winked.
Percy shook his head, lowering his head even more as he walked. Nico Di Angelo didn't wink at him. He coulddn't have.
Nico had never cared about him (not counting their younger years), so why would he start now?
Stuck in his own mind Percy didn't see the girl rushing towards him, and before either of them knew it they both went flying to the ground, papers and books splattering everywhere.
"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry!" the person squeaked, quickly climbing off of Percy to gather his things. "I-I totally wasn't thinking I mean-- I should've been looking where I was going and--" she stopped her rambling, slowly looking up at Percy.
Percy stayed on his back, hoisted up by his elbows. He stared at the girl, mouth dry.
"Oh..."
The brown-haired girl cleared her throat. She handed him his papers and books.
"Percy." she nodded her head.
Piper. He acknowledged her silently, not responding out loud as he took his supplies, standing up slowly. He held out a hand and she took it, getting up as well.
"Haven't seen you around very much." she murmured, straightening out her clothes.
Percy stared at her blankly.
"T-there's... the boys. I better..." Piper cleared her throat, walking past him and towards the boys.
A soft sigh escaped his lips. For as long as he had known her Piper had always been awkward when he was in the room. He knew why, and it was simply because the fact that he didn't talk... sort of creeped her out. She knew he knew, but her odd behavior still continued.
Shaking his head from side to side Percy continued through the empty halls and to his next class.
When he walked in everyone was staring at him, watching as he took his place in the back. The teacher, thank God, was one of the not-so-strict ones, Miss. Athena Chase. Well, not-so-strict if you weren't partying on desks or playing a game in class.
A few minutes later Nico, Leo, and Jason burst into the room.
"How late are we?" Nico asked frantically.
"Well Mr. Di Angelo." Miss. Chase looked up at the clock. "Only ten minutes. Much better than your last time, I'd say."
Nico muttered something inaudible (and it was probably best kept unknown) and looked around the room. Jason and Leo had already taken their normal seats in the front, but Nico's had been occupied by some other dude.
Miss. Chase looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to take a seat.
"Sorry bro." Leo shrugged.
"It's cool." Nico shrugged it off, heading towards the back to sit in the seat next to Percy, who, had been doodling the whole time. Honestly he didn't know what subject he was in. Trigonometry, Geography, one of the other y's, didn't matter. All of them just drove his dyslexia crazy, making everything look like one big shit bomb.
"Psst. What is that?" a finger jabbed at his drawing, making Percy look up.
He stared at the curious Nico in front of him before going back to drawing.
"Come on, you can tell me." Nico whined. "What is it?"
Percy moved his paper further away from Nico so he couldn't see.
"Okay now that's just rude." Nico got out of his seat, standing in front of Percy's desk. Great, now everyone was watching. Meanwhile Miss. Athena had just given up entirely and was reading a book. Guess that meant no help from a teacher...
"Show me what it is, please?" Nico continued.
Percy sighed, grabbing his paper and handing the drawing to Nico.
"Whoa." his eyes widened. "This is awesome! Where'd you learn to draw like this?"
Percy stared at him through his hair. He blinked.
"Forgot you don't talk... sorry."
He just continued to stare at Nico.
"Do you mind if I keep this?"
Percy blinked again.
"Thanks." Niuco hummed happily, sitting back down.
"Well!" Miss. Chase stood up again. When no one looked up she grabbed her whistle, blowing into it as hard as she could to create a terrifyingly loud noise.
"IF YOU WOULD ALL LOOK UP HERE!" she tapped the board. She brushed her brown hair behind her shoulder, huffing.
"YES MA'AM!" everyone turned, looking at her.
"Now, back to our lesson in Trigonometry." she cleared her throat.
So that's what class Percy was in.
For the rest of the period Percy basically just played with a loose string on his jacket, thoughts rushing through his head. Nico wasn't paying attention either, he was too busy examining Percy's drawing. It couldn't be that good. It was just a drawing he had been trying to finish up.
But Nico Di Angelo had actually talked to him. The Di Angelo. The fucking prince of the high school and maybe him saving Percy had been... deliberate, and he had helped Percy for the pure sake of helping him.
Either Percy had landed in some weird alternate universe, or his luck was starting to change.
Naw, the alternate universe made more sense.
Alright well I'm sorry if that sucked ass but I tried! xD Currently jamming out to Avril so
