"I love you."

"I love you more."

"No, I love you more."

Percy walked passed the gushy couple, turning his gaze away. His bandaged hands reached up to his hood, pulling it over to cover a larger portion of his head.

That couple... they were lucky enough to have love. He hoped they wouldn't just throw it away.

"'Ey, dweeb!"

Percy froze in his tracks. He gripped the sides of his hood, his own breath faltering. Not now, it was almost the end of the day. Not them, anything but them.

"Move out of the way!" someone got shoved into the lockers, and the sound of their collapsed body echoed throughout the halls.

"Y-you can't do t-that." someone stammered, possibly someone from the couple who had been lovey-dovey just a few seconds earlier.

"Oh, can I? I am Jason freaking Grace! My father's the principal of this school, and he believes in disciplining you worthless maggots. He believes a way to rule..." he smashed his hand into a locker, startling everyone, causing some to tumble and fall.

"Is by fear." Jason finally finishes, a wicked grin on his face.

Percy didn't realize he was watching until he heard the all too familiar snicker of Leo Valdez, Jason's little 'sidekick.'

"'Ey Grace." Valdez said, "Think you got an admirer."

Jason raised an eyebrow, turning to Percy. "Ah I see. We haven't picked on poor little Jackson since 2nd period today! My my and it's almost the end of school..."

Percy didn't know which one was worse, school with the two morons in front of him or death.

He couldn't even move before he was sent flying into the wall. He could feel the pain in his back, the pressure, and the damage; but what was worse than that? Falling back down.

His own hand embedded itself into Percy's chest. He clenched his teeth, refusing to let out any cry of pain. If he did he knew he'd only get punished further.

"Ah Grace, that all you're gonna do to him?" Leo frowned. 

"I'm feeling merciful today." Jason shrugged.

"Or." a voice said, "It's the fact that I'm standing right behind you, and you know it."

Percy looked up at the source of the voice, already having a pretty likely guess on who had spoken.

Nico Di Angelo. The coolest kid in school, and the only person who Grace and Valdez were willing to listen to. He had pale skin, dark colored eyes, and dark hair.

Everything about him was so dark, but he shone so bright. Whatever was cool is what he wore and whatever he wore became cool. He was practically school royalty. Royalty in elementary school, royalty in middle school, the prince of high school, soon to be crowned the rightful king.

"Oh. Hello... Nico." 

Percy bit his lip, swearing he saw Jason gulp when he turned to face Nico.

Nico rolled his eyes, walking over to one of Jason's earlier victims and helping her up. He winked at her before moving on back around the halls, gathering up papers, books, and people.

The only person he didn't help, was Percy. Per usual.

"Come on, we'll be late for practice." Nico sighed, "You two are gonna get me in a lot of trouble one day."

"Oh hon, we are trouble."

"Sure you are."

The Trio left, going off to their football practice and all. Or... whatever sport it was they played. Percy didn't really know, or care.

When Percy was sure there was no sight of them, and that none would double back, he peeled himself off the ground. He could barely breath, but if he complained, no one would care. Right?

In truth all he wanted to do was go home, and not to his foster home. That foster home, it was his 20th one, and still it didn't fit. For once the people were nice, for once they were caring, but it didn't match him.

Proof love and care wasn't for him; his sub conscience would only object it.

Which also, sadly, meant that happiness wasn't for him. 

Happiness. A thing that he didn't even deserve.

I am really bad at starting books DX

So you may notice the Chapter 0 as the title, sozie, let me explain.

I don't really want this to be the first official 'Chapter,' and it didn't seem too much like a prologue to me, so I made it Chapter 0.

Chapter 1 is going to be something I never really added into the one-shot, so I hope you like it!
