"Mr. & Mrs. Brown, is there something about your daughter which you think is very different?"

That was a very strange question.

"Wh-what do you mean doctor? What-what is different?" Asked David.

The doctor furrowed his eyebrows and inspected both of them gingerly. They did not seem to know anything which unnerved him. He was pretty sure one of them must be the cause, and if not that atleast aware of it. But it implies that both of them are oblivious.

David had got a slight hint in his mind about what the doctor stated. But he would not be a fool and declare that he knows it.

Because the last time it was known, the outcome was horrifying.

"Are you sure Mr.Brown that you aren't even slightly aware of it?"

David feigned confusion, furrowed his eyebrows and shook his head after a little while.

The doctor sighed, "I guess I'll have to tell you then." And proceeded to take a seat on his chair.

"Your daughter has been the luckiest victim of the accident. A part of an iron chair fell on her but the intensity of her wounds is not what we expected.

"So according to the tests we ran on her blood, it has come to our notice that she has strong bones, unusually strong bones. Well such a DNA is said to be one in a million and also genetic.
Hence I would recommend you to at least know your family history," he peeked at both of them from under his glasses, "both of them and rectify it soon.

"And for the matter of her injury, you needn't worry much as the only medicine now will be rest, and as her bones are already strong, they will heal faster considering the fact that she has suffered only three hairline fractures."

The doctor got up from his chair and so did the couple, they shook their hands, mumbled a 'thankyou' and scurried off from the office sensing the growing tension.

It had been two days but Clarissa had not yet woken up. Isabella was utterly disturbed after the conversation in the doctor's cabin. She had sensed it pretty early that there was something which David already knew, but did not disclose.

David had paced the lobby outside the hospital room for several times. He never thought that his daughter would be affected. He had suspected Kevin to have it in his blood but it turns out no one knows the nature's game.

He was still pacing the floor when he suddenly froze in place, his back turned to the source of the voice.

"What is it?" It was Bella, her arms crossed and a stern expression on her face.

"What's what? I don't get you"

"What is it David?! I know there is something you know about--" she came nearer and whispered, "about her condition! What is it you didn't tell the doctor!?" She whisper yelled.

David gave a defeated sigh, looked around but found no place which could be considered safe.
Hence atlast he decided to exit the hospital and reveal it there.

"You remember Bella, I had told you about my mother? She passed on the gene."

Bella was standing there, eyes wide and mouth agape. She remembered what the case had been. How she actually died.

"Bu-but th-thats not possible! Yo-you are standing here in front of me! Why hasn't it affected you?"

"It cannot be determined. It may come in the next generation, it may not. Its complicated and I am no science student. I do not know! I-I did not.."

He left his sentence incomplete and both of them stood there in mere silence.

"My mother had done a mistake. We have not done it. No one can know. No one." He stood a little straighter, a bit of determination and confidence radiating out of him.

But Isabella just nodded.

"'9 people severely injured when a bus toppled on its side at  Maxmillon road'." she sighed, as she read the sub headline of a newspaper on her cell phone.
"Was it that bad?"

Suzanne sat there in one of the chairs in the waiting room as they were not allowed into her room.

"It seems so. The doctor said she has been lucky, and this is what you get when you are lucky." Martin gave out a dry, mirthless laugh at his own statement.

Suzanne rubbed her hands on her face and whined,
"these dimwitted hospital fools! Not allowing us to go inside because we are not immediate family! What the hell!"

"Don't worry dear, we have had a talk with the doctor right now and he told he shall allow you in an hour or so." Declared uncle David.

Well they weren't cousins, but their and their family's bond had strengthened exceedingly, making them like a family.

"Oh I love these hospital dimwits!" Chirped Suzanne with a billion watt smile on her face.

"Seems like after all, they know hospitality." And all of them then chuckled at Martin's statement.

Now they only had to wait for a week or so, and then everything would go back to normal.

David was still unnerved after the conversation they had with the doctor. But his mother had practically surrendered herself. He will not let the same happen to her.

His chain of thought was interrupted yet again, when Suzanne's phone rang. He shook his head in amusement.

Suzanne growled and muttered some swear words under her breath and received the call without looking at the caller id, because she was pretty sure that it was one of their classmate enquiring about Clarissa.

"What is it?! Oh yes I know what it is! Why can't you people call Martin? He is as free as a donkey right now. I will shoo--" she abruptly stopped with her eyes wide, when she realised it was one of their teacher calling her.

"Oh no! No sir I-I th-thought it was Laurel again--she was--callingmecontinuosly--...." she stuttered at some points or spoke everything in one single second, all of it totally incoherent.

After she kept her phone, embarrassed that she had not seen the id before, everybody laughed their lungs out at the mess she looked.

Then it was the doctor who came in and informed,

"All of you can visit her if you want, she is stable by now but not conscious." He looked at Martin and Suzanne as they were the ones had had literally snapped his head off in an attempt to enter the patients room before.

He could see the glee on both of their faces after hearing it.

And he hoped it would remain there, for as long as it will.
