The rain fell down as he cradled her lifeless body. It was an accident. He wanted to scream and beg someone to help her, but the nearest place for miles was his castle and they wouldn't hear his pleas from here.

Even if they did it was far too late to save her. Not even Anna's mother with all her powers could help her daughter now.

A loud anguished cry forced itself from somewhere, deep inside him. The roaring thunder drowned it out.

They were weeks away from their wedding, they were supposed to grow old together. He pressed his lips against her forehead.

In the trees, out of sight is another whose grief is just as strong as Lucas', but stronger than that grief is a burning rage all aimed at him. Anna was her daughter, her only child. She had warned her that Lucas was no good, but she wouldn't listen and now she was gone. 

She has never felt so powerless as she does now. Her magic couldn't save Anna, but it could avenge her.

"When the sun goes down, let him and all those at Kanefire become the beasts they are inside," the woman whispered with tears streaming down her face. "Let the curse break when she who can see past the beast and see only a man love him".

She watched with merciless glee  as his body became consumed with agony. A broken sob escapes her mouth when once again her eyes land on Anna. It should be him dead not her daughter.

The prologue is short but I promise the other chapters won't be. I just feel a short prologue works better.
