Shiro was near blinded by the pain in his arm. He didn't know what was happening, only that some guy was carrying him and there was yelling and he didn't think he knew anyone in the vicinity.
He vaguely felt himself being dumped onto some kind of surface, then he felt the prick on an IV in his good arm, the arm that wasn't full of liquid pain, and he squinted up at the ceiling, which was blurred and covered in flourescent lights. Suddenly, a man's face filled his vision and he thought absently, He must be an angel...
"You'll be okay, " said the angel.
Then: nothing.

Shiro woke in a hospital room. He looked around blearily and tried to sit up using his right hand, but found that it wasn't there. His arm was gone. He started panicking, touching the stump frantically as if to find the rest, as if it were invisible.
Suddenly, the door opened and a male voice said, "It's gone, Takashi. We had to amputate it. "
Shiro looked up at him, shocked. "W-what? You...you.... Why!? "
The man sighed and adjusted his glasses on his nose. "It was either you or the arm. We chose the arm over seeing you die. "
Shiro stared at him. Then he looked down at the blankets covering his legs. "What.... What happened last night? " He said quietly, almost like he was speaking to himself.
The man frowned at him. He didn't know whether to answer or not, so threw caution to the wind and he told him what he knew. "From what we could tell, it looked like you got drunk and someone slashed you on a main artery. "

The man smiled a little. "Adam. I'm your nurse for now. "
Shiro nodded and said quietly, "Can you... Stay? I don't wanna... Be alone..."
Adam nodded and dragged a chair over to his bed.
Shiro flushed slightly. "Has anyone ever told you you look like an angel? "
Adam flushed too, but nodded. "It's quite common in the ER. You know, with people almost dying all the time and all. "
