Ch. 31 Jumping Into It

"Daaaaamn I feel like a celebrity!" Kaminari exclaimed, carrying his hero costume case, "I mean we get to stay in those big rooms, there's a pool and hot tub, and free meals that are so good!"

"We're definitely getting the 5 star treatment." Ashido giggled, following alongside Hagakure and Hailey with their cases as well.

"I might stay at Hondashu forever!" Hagakure gushed.

Hailey chuckled, "Maybe wait until you get to work under Trimelli or Orvala before deciding."

"Oh- good point." Hagakure awkwardly agreed, seeing that she was a bit over-excited.

The four of them reentered Hondashu agency and approached the front desk.

"Morning Zadian." Hailey greeted.

Zadian smiled at the students from behind the desk, "Morning kiddos, nice to see you made it this early. Trimelli is kind of a stickler for that kind of stuff."

"Yeah, it's kind of a hassle, but rescue waits for no one, right?" Hailey shrugged.

Zadian chuckled, "Of course. I'll just sign you guys in and you can head to the change rooms down the hall, then head up to the specialty floor where Trimelli and Orvala will be waiting for you."

"Awesome, thanks Zadian." Hailey smiled, signing her name into the registry book she was handed. The others copied her actions one at a time, then Hailey led her classmates towards where the change rooms were located.

"You seem really at home here, Rosie." Kaminari commented.

"Would you be surprised if I told you that I've only been here a few times?" Hailey remarked, "I was here the most last year because mom wanted to move here instead of driving two hours here everyday."

"Really? It's almost like you grew up here." Hagakure added.

"Feels like it sometimes." Hailey sighed and gestured to the separated changing rooms. "Here's yours, Kami, and here's ours."

After getting their costumes on, the students met back up on the specialty floor, where Trimelli was waiting beside a shorter woman in a purple pastel and silver hero costume.

"Ah, you're here. A few minutes later than I would have liked." Trimelli commented as he took notice of the students approaching.

The woman nudged him with her elbow, "Give them a break, Cova, it's the first day." She then addressed the students. "Good morning everyone! I'm glad to see you this bright and early. I'm Orvala, the Surface Shifting Hero, I will be your instructor if you want to focus on combat and defensive training. In my group is Kaminari and Ashido, so you two can follow me and we'll get started."

Kaminari and Ashido followed Orvala as they exited the hall towards the PR room. This left Hagakure and Hailey with Trimelli standing in the hallway.

The hero cleared his throat, "Alright then, if you'll follow me, we can also begin your training." He then gestured for the girls to follow him into the mission room. A row of several computers on their own individual desks were displayed along the sides of the room. In the centre back of the room stood a tall whiteboard, cleaned to where there was no residue of the previous drawings or writing from a session beforehand.

"This is where we gather to monitor and strategize for any and all incidents that pertain to injuries or damages. I've found that in the mornings, there isn't much reason for this room to be filled with people, as most incidents that involve casualties relate to people rushing to their workplace and not being cautious to those around them, which usually falls onto the paramedics and police force to handle. It is a rarity to have quirk based crimes at the level we are required at during the early morning hours, most criminals and villains save their crimes for a time of day when it is dark, when less people are about, or possibly when the weather improves or inhibits their quirk." Trimelli provided an insightful introduction. "The heroes here all have shifts that suit those kinds of situations and so that someone is here even when there is an instance of an accident."

Trimelli gestured to the computers, "For your first day, you two will monitor activity through the city via these computers."

"How do we do that?" Hagakure questioned.

"Through any means of acquiring news in the surrounding area." Trimelli vaguely answered.

Hailey felt that the concept clicked in her head so she suggested an answer, "Like through social medias, scroll through hashtags, look at local news channels, or check out police scanner programs."

"Yes, we have permission from the police to listen and view requests that dispatchers put when there are calls from bystanders or casualties. Sometimes we will be directly called when we are requested or specifically needed." Trimelli added.

"Does that mean once we find something we get to respond to it ourselves?" Hagakure inquired.

"No, you both will inform me of whatever you find while in this office. Once you've collected enough hours in here, then there will be a consideration for you both assisting on the streets." Trimelli answered strictly. "That is if my assumption that you both know basic first aid is correct?"

"I got my certificate before the school year started." Hailey raised her hand.

"Oh.. I guess I'm staying here then." Hagakure sighed in defeat.

"You can have your certificate done here, curtesy of Hondashu. Granted, it is a 12 hour course and may take time away from your time from your respondant training." Trimelli pointed out.

"Well I mean, you can't get out of this room without it anyways so it's better to have it done." Hailey suggested quietly to the invisible girl.

"Okay, if it's okay I'd like to do that." Hagakure agreed.

"Alright then, I'll allow you to keep to this room for today with your training. I'll make the arrangements for you to begin your course tomorrow morning then." Trimelli nodded, "If you'll excuse me, I'll take a quick leave to make those arrangements. You may get the equipment set up while I'm gone and begin listening in."

With that, Trimelli swiftly left the room with the two young girls alone.
