Ch.23 Keep It Going

"It's cocky." Endeavour stated as he kept his eyes on the battle below.

"It was not, she barely had a chance to be cocky, all she did was play up the audience the quickly reacted to her opponent. She wasn't cocky." Melodie insisted, playfully glaring at the pro hero. "You though, are definitely cocky with your 'my son's gonna win the sports festival, he will be number one' talk."

Endeavour gritted his teeth, "Shouldn't you be in the support agency booth?! You don't have to stand by me because I'm the only person you know."

"You are not the only person that I know here." Melodie retorted, "Besides, the best view is right here."

"So you can keep an eye on your daughter while you scout?" Endeavour inquired, already knowing the answer.

Melodie raised her eyebrow, "Don't act high and mighty when you're doing the same thing with your son."

The battle of Iida versus Hatsume continued and Melodie quickly took out her phone again.

"I want that girl, her tech is amazing! Mei.. Hatsu..me."

Endeavour deadpanned at her sudden switch in behaviour.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailey kept laughing at Iida's attempts to free himself from Hatsume's commercial for all of her gadgets. Though it was relieving that Hatsume voluntarily stepped out of bounds after ten minutes of her show.

"Iida's so sincere, he trusted her motives." Midoriya observed in bewilderment. "She probably made it sound like she was doing him a favour."

"I like her." Hailey giggled, "I hope my mom recruits her for Hondashu."

This time she sat behind Midoriya in the second row of seats, beside Sero. She leaned over his shoulder to see Midoriya's tattered notebook. Hailey recognized it as the notebook that Midoriya uses to record information about heroes and their quirks.

"Hey Midi, Aoyama's match is next against that vine girl, who do you think is gonna win?" Hailey inquired, already knowing that she set off some gears in his head as he thought out loud about the possibilities based on their quirks.

"Shiozaki's got this win." Ashido piped in, "I was on Aoyama's team for combat training and he said that using his quirk too much gives him a stomache, so if she can block his attacks, he'll wear himself out pretty fast."

"Guess we'll have to watch and see." Hailey shrugged her shoulders.

The students continued to watch the next battles unfold, progressing on were Shiozaki and Tokoyami from their respective matches. Next up was Kirishima.

"YEAH KIRI! KICK SOME ASS!" Hailey cheered, standing up from her seat. "MAKE US PROUD!"

It was comedic that both of them were so similar, both opponents had hardening quirks and the same level of enthusiasm for their beliefs.

"Hey Midi." Hailey crouched down and nudged him once noticing Uraraka's seat vacant except for her drink that's ice was now melted.

"Hm, what's up Hailey?" Midoriya asked, turning to look at her.

"You should go find Uraraka, this match could drag on for awhile, so you should go encourage her. She's up against Bakugou after all, we both know how draining he is to deal with, even if we're not physically fighting." She suggested, knowing how nervous Uraraka seemed.

Midoriya nodded, "Good idea, thanks Hailey."

With that, he rushed off and Hailey sat back in her seat, pulling out her phone. She clicked on the text message conversation that she had with Bakugou. The last message she sent him was yesterday, wishing him a happy birthday, although more than likely deleted on his phone, his mother had used his phone to text her a thank-you and that Bakugou liked his present and was putting it to use.

Hailey typed a new message to Bakugou, encouraging him and wishing him luck on his match.

'Hey Blasty, not that you'll need it, but good luck on your match! In case you don't hear it, I'll be cheering for you'

After sending the text message, she was surprised to get a reply from Bakugou, as he technically left her on 'read' from yesterday.

'You're damn right I don't need the luck - I'm aiming for the top. Stupid.'

There was a smile on Hailey's as she translated Bakugou's words as him saying 'thanks, I'll do my best'.

Hailey looked up from her phone to watch the rest of the battle, only to see that Kirishima and Tetsutestu punched each other in the face, causing them to both be knocked out.

"What the- did that just happen at the same time?" Hailey questioned, in case she missed something.

"I think so, they're calling it a draw." Sero answered as Midnight declared that to be the case.

"Next up is Bakugou and Uraraka." Hailey sighed as she watched the screen change to their pictures.

"Ribbit. This might be the most disturbing matchup." Asui commented.

"I know, I almost don't wanna watch it." Jirou agreed and rubbed her crossed forearms as she got uncomfortable chills just thinking about it.

Everyone knew that Bakugou was ruthless and showed no mercy, also being aware that he would not spare Uraraka with any special treatment. He was too focused on winning the entire sports festival, that he wasn't going to hold back anything.

As the battle commenced, it only further proved the point.

Although Uraraka put up a good fight, even at one moment, looking to have bested Bakugou with a shower of the rubble and debris that he set loose, Bakugou ultimately won the match. But the method was controversial in the eyes of some of the audience members, some even going so far as to call Bakugou a villain in a hero's competition, to which Mr Aizawa took over Present Mic's job momentarily to stand up for his student, noting that Bakugou respects Uraraka enough to not hold back, as that would not be fair to her.

Kirishima's rematch started once things settled down, Midoriya left to go to the waiting room for his next match and Iida to go check on Uraraka.

Bakugou returned to the bleachers, where Kaminari, Sero, and Asui made comments and remarks about his villainous behaviour.

"Baku." Hailey called to him and patted the vacant seat next to her. "Sit by me for a sec."

Everyone looked at Hailey in confusion but were surprised when Bakugou was compliant and sat beside Hailey in the second row.

"What do you want, Shitty-selle?" Bakugou grumbled, calling her by his previous nickname. Hailey paid no mind to it, as she assumed the first name basis was reserved for when they were alone.

She gently grabbed onto his arm and pulled it towards her. Hailey placed her hands on his wrist.

"I can practically feel your arms pulse pain." She mumbled. "I figured that you used your quirk a lot in the last events that you'd be feeling some sort of draw back. Luckily my hands are cold and I know how to get your blood circulating to stop it."

She then looked up at Bakugou, asking his permission to do so, "Is that okay with you, Baku?"

Bakugou huffed and averted his gaze away from her, "Fine, only because I know you don't want to watch Shitty Hair's match in case he loses."

Hailey flicked Bakugou's wrist, causing him to growl in pain and glared at her.

"I'm being nice, you ass." Hailey pouted, but started to massage Bakugou's forearm. She could feel him relax a bit, but he continued to grumble about how she was being stupid and needy. "You did good that match, you're really powerful and strong, Baku."

"Maaan, Rosie, how come you're so nice to Bakugou? I went easy on you and you still threw me out of the ring." Kaminari whined.

Hailey chuckled, "C'mon Kami, I already told you, a time and place for flirting is not a battle. If you were going easy on me, that's sad because I thought we all agreed to no hard feelings? Does bubba need me to give him an arm massage too? Need me to hold his hand?" She teased.

"Okay, I feel like you're toying with my feelings." Kaminari cried with a pout.

"I'm not, but c'mon, you know quirks can wear you out if you use them lots. Like how your brain fries, Bakugou's arms get sore, Midoriya breaking limbs. It's important to know how to properly deal with them." Hailey explained.

"Yeah? What's your quirk drawbacks?" Sero inquired.

"There are lots of drawbacks with mine, depending on how I use it. Like I explained to Kiri earlier, the infrared can get dangerous depending on the source I use, how powerful it is, and what it makes contact with. I've gotten burns and rashes from it being directly on my skin. But my boost wavelength makes my ears ring, my nose and ears bleed, because I source it through my body and it pushes my blood to pump faster." Hailey summarized, "My tolerance has gotten higher for using it, so I guess I only have to be worried if I get stabbed or something."

"Woah, that's a lot more complex than some people." Sero responded.

"Is it different for your voice mimic quirk?" Jirou asked, intrigued with the conversation.

"Yeah, that one is just a sore throat, I don't use it too often so hopefully that's the only part of it." Hailey answered.

Iida returned and later Uraraka did as well, her eyes puffy from possibly crying earlier.

"Ura, you did so good during that match! That meteor shower idea was so cool!" Hailey complimented her classmate genuinely, as she finished up with treating Bakugou's arms.

"Thanks, Roselle." Uraraka smiled at her, "Oh wait, your match is right after Deku's, right?"

Hailey nodded, "Yep."

"My match is next as well, so I suppose you and I will be opponents, Roselle." Iida chimed in, facing them from the front row.

"Bring your best, alright Iida?" Hailey encouraged with a happy expression.

"I will, and I expect the same from you as well." Iida responded with a nod.

Hailey then stood up from her seat, "I'm gonna head down to the waiting room, who knows if Todoroki will freeze the whole stadium this time." She joked.

In reality, Hailey wanted to watch in private to prepare herself. Iida was going to be more of a challenge, due to his speed and being physically more strong than Hailey.

Midoriya and Todoroki walked out onto the field and Hailey cheered loudly for her friend. "YOU GOT THIS MIDI!"

As soon as Present Mic started the match, Todoroki sent a barrage of ice towards Midoriya, who countered the attack with a powerful smash and injuring his fingers. The blast left the audience shivering from the cold.

The two continued the cycle until Midoriya ran out of usable fingers on his right hand. Todoroki used his ice to charge at Midoriya, but capturing his foot in it when the green-haired male dodged the attack. Midoriya punched the glacier and it sent a wind of power over the audience and Todoroki.

"Holy goddamn." Hailey breathed in amazement of the power.

To everyone, particularly Midoriya's, Todoroki shielded himself with his ice. The sight of Midoriya's purple bruised arm shook Hailey to her core. It was horrifying to see your friend in such rough shape from using their quirk, when their opponent was scary powerful, not just in quirk use, but in strategy.

Todoroki continued his barrage but instead of giving up, Midoriya deflected it again with his already broken finger, almost sending Todoroki out of bounds.

"You're trembling, Todoroki."
