Ch.18 Time For Preparation Is Over

The boys all returned back to their homes that night, while Ashido remained at Hailey's house.

They watched more rom-com themed movies and cringy television shows throughout the rest of the night while eating the leftovers. The girls didn't bother using cups anymore, drinking straight from the large bottles of pop that hadn't been touched while the boys were there.

It was nice and relaxing, which surprised Hailey, as she didn't have many female friends to spend time with. Her time back at home contrasted the girl talk that she was enjoying with Ashido.

Ashido's approach and behaviour towards the topics of crushes, costumes, school, and current events were different than how Hailey was used to Luka, Yuri, even Midoriya, Kirishima, Sero, and Kaminari. The atmosphere around Ashido was easy, as it didn't feel difficult to tell Ashido anything, she felt easy to trust.

The girls giggled as they joked about the cringe that they were witnessing in the show that they were watching, but swooned at certain characters when they appeared.

"Oh my god, there's Joshua!" Ashido squealed as the character walked onto the screen, dripping wet from a shower.

"You mean Joshua's ass?" Hailey retorted with a chuckle.

Ashido playfully rolled her eyes, "Oh please, you get excited whenever Marcus gets on screen and he's shirtless."

"Because he has good tits! I will not apologize for liking a man who has a good bust! Plus he got that tan boy with white hair thing going on, it's hella hot!" Hailey swooned.

"You have a specific type, huh?" Ashido teased.

"Not really." Hailey laughed, "I like a variety of types, alright? I could make a list for you if you want."

"Why do I have a feeling like that is a long one?" Ashido sweatdropped.

"What can I say? I won't know until I actually start dating someone."

"Oh sweetie, I will find you a cute, good titty individual for you to date." Ashido assured with giggles.

"That would be great, thanks."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was Friday night, but Ashido returned home Saturday afternoon, which left Hailey to her own devices. The remainder of the weekend was spent by Hailey continuing some training for the sports festival, which included going on afternoon jogs around the neighbourhood and practicing her acrobatic/figure skating incorporating moves in her back yard.

But suddenly, the day had finally arrived.

The moments leading up to where Hailey stood felt to have gone by too fast, emotions relating to anxiety-filled her adrenaline as Hailey feared that she would throw up from the excitement.

"Yo, Rosie, are you gonna be alright?" Kirishima quietly asked as he noticed her leaning the front of her body against the wall of the waiting room.

"Yeah, I'll be fine once things get started and I burn off this energy. The hardest part is the waiting for these kinds of things, right?" Hailey weakly smiled as she tried to assure her friend.

"I hear what you mean, but don't worry too much because we're gonna kick some ass!" Kirishima exclaimed, hoping to hype her up.

A real smile grew on Hailey's face and she nodded, "Hell yeah we are!"

Iida then entered the waiting room in a dramatic fashion to announce that they'd all be entering the arena soon, so the class should get their game faces on.

The rest of Class 1-A took the opportunity to swallow whatever fears that they had left and prepared themselves for the world to see.

What caught everyone by surprise was Todoroki approaching Midoriya.

"Oh, hi Todoroki, what's up?" Midoriya asked timidly.

The rest of the class took notice of how tense the air suddenly felt.

"From an objective standpoint, I think it's clear that I'm stronger than you." Todoroki stated very bluntly to the green haired male.

"Where is this suddenly coming from?" Hailey whispered in bewilderment.

"Yeah." Midoriya nodded in agreement to Todoroki's claim.

Caught off guard with Midoriya going along with Todoroki, Hailey's face read only shock and confusion.

'Midi, don't agree with him, have some more confidence in yourself dammit!'

"However, you've got All Might in your corner helping you out. I'm not here to pry about what's going on between you two, but know that I will beat you." Todoroki finished his monologed proclamation.

"Woah, look at all these declarations of war here." Kaminari remarked.

"All this is doing is causing unneeded drama and tension." Hailey huffed in annoyance.

"Yeah, what's the big deal with picking a fight all of a sudden?" Kirishima questioned, grabbed Todoroki by his shoulder as he confronted him.

Todoroki brushed off Kirishima's hand, "We're not here to be each other's friends. Don't forget this isn't a team effort." With that, Todoroki left the room.

Hailey frowned, "He's not going to beat anyone if he acts like that."

"No, he's right you guys." Midoriya piped up.

Hailey turned her head from the door that Todoroki exited through back to Midoriya and blinked in confusion.

"Everyone in the departments are coming for us, we're all going yo have to fight to stand out. And I'll be aiming for the top too." Midoriya declared with a new motivation.

Silence fell on the room as the students didn't respond.

Hailey sighed before clicking her tongue in annoyance, "You guys are all being drama queens, but if we're treating this like a new challenge, even if we're going up against each other, I'm rooting for you all. So don't bring anything but your best, okay?" Her mood shifted to match Midoriya's and she smiled confidently. "Now I think we should show the world why we're in Class 1-A."

Her classmates smiled, some nodded and others voiced their excitement. Then they followed Iida out the doors and into the humungous areana field. Just as Iida instructed, the students had their game faces on, confidence surged through their veins.

Walking out and hearing the large audience cheering for them made Hailey especially feel like she was where she belonged, as she walked alongside the future protectors who would be called 'Heroes'.

Present Mic introduced the class, in a way that made them sound a bit like the stars of the show.

All the students from the different departments gathered before stage, where teacher and pro hero, Midnight, already stood. Hailey heard Kirishima and Kaminari comment how maybe she wasn't the best choice to host the event in her rather provocative hero costume.

"Silence everyone!" Midnight commanded, speaking into the microphone in her hand, "Now for the hero pledge is Katsuki Bakugou."

"Why do I have a bad feeling about this?" Hailey muttered as Bakugou walked up to the stage.

"Because it's Bakugou, who knows what he's going to say." Kaminari responded, equally dreading the same thing.

"Maybe he'll surprise us." Hailey sighed and looked up to where Bakugou stood in front of the standing microphone.

Every student, audience member, and the viewers who watched waited in anticipation for what Bakugou was going to say.

"I just wanna say... that I'm gonna win."

Everyone was thoroughly disappointed or raging at his declaration.

"I'm pretty sure that's not how it goes!" Hailey shrieked as she became aware of how the other students that weren't in her class were targeting their anger on not only Bakugou, but also all of Class 1-A.

Midnight took over again and explained that the first segment of the day would be an obstacle course.

All the students lined behind a closed door. Hailey ended up in the middle, right between students that she didn't recognize from her class. She thought about what her classmates were saying either about how this wasn't about making friends. Maybe it held some truth to it, after all, the golden rule is to treat others the way that you want to be treated.

And Hailey didn't owe these other students anything, so maybe it was time to stop worrying about everyone else's feeling and quit holding back.
