Ch.10 Rise Up
The next morning in Class 1-A, the students were relieved to hear Mr Aizawa announce a normal class activity, as the students were to elect a class representative for the student council.
Hailey couldn't help but chuckle at her classmates nominating themselves with different levels of enthusiasm. She too wanted to nominate herself for the role, as in her previous school, she was a member of the student council, even becoming a co-president in her last year. But with how recent occurrences played out, Hailey was sure that her version of school events would be much different than what this hero school had.
"You guys," Hailey called out loud, catching everyone's attention, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm not sure everyone in here would be ready for the responsibilities of being a class rep, you gotta be a leader. Trust me when I tell you that it's not a job that just anyone can do." She warned her classmates.
"Roselle makes a good point, she was actually a co-president at her previous school." Aizawa pointed out.
"Oh, so she'd have the most experience out of all of us." Kirishima noted.
"Yes! The class rep must have the respect and trust of their classmates in order to persevere as a true leader!" Iida declared, "I say that that we hold an election to choose our leader!"
"That's a good idea, Iida." Hailey agreed.
'But who would I vote for? Definitely not myself, maybe Iida since he seems to know what to do and understands the gravity of it all.' Hailey decided as she pondered what to do.
Aizawa said that he didn't care, as he just wanted the ordeal to be done and over with before his nap was over.
After all the students placed their votes via ballets, Midoriya was shocked to have gotten three votes, as he was tied with Hailey. She herself hesitated, sure she felt happy and excited to have her classmate's confidence in her, but at the same time, she wasn't sure if she even wanted the position in the first place. This was her first year at a new school, in a new environment, where she was just barely familiar with anything. Being a class representative, as she said, was a lot of responsibility and for her first year at least, she wanted to focus on her schooling and heroing.
"I only got..one..vote?" Iida muttered in bewilderment and disappointment.
"Maybe he voted for himself?" Kaminari whispered to Kirishima, which was in earshot of Hailey as well.
"No, Iida's too humble and noble to do that kind of thing." Hailey whispered back to Kaminari.
"From the looks of it, our rep is either Midoriya or Roselle." Aizawa stated.
Hailey raised her hand, "Actually, sir, I'd like to withdraw my nomination. I mean sure, I have experience with this, so I'd like to give someone else a chance to experience it. Maybe next year?"
"Huh? You don't want to be class rep?" Midoriya questioned, other students doing the same.
"Not yet anyway, I appreciate the votes, but it wouldn't be fair to everyone else if my heart wasn't completely in it." Hailey answered with an honest smile.
"Alright then, it looks like Midoriya is our class rep, and since Yaoyorozu had the next highest amount of votes, is our deputy." Mr Aizawa concluded.
"A-Are you sure that this isn't a mistake?" Midoriya stammered, still in disbelief.
"You know what, I can get behind this." Kirishima approved, nodding his head.
Although Hailey felt the same way, she couldn't help but notice the seething aura that emitted from Iida.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"No offense or anything, Rosie, but I still can't believe that you turned down being class rep." Kaminari remarked as he chewed his food. His expression was rather sassy, which made Hailey chuckle at him from across the table, as they enjoyed their lunch in the cafeteria.
"Yeah, you were pretty much one of the only people who were actually qualified for it." Sero added in agreement with Kaminari.
"Waste of my vote." Kaminari remarked jokingly, with Sero nodding in comedic agreement.
"Thanks guys, but I don't wanna bite off more than I can chew with my first year here. I don't wanna be busy the whole first year, I still wanna enjoy myself while I'm still a kid. Plus it'd feel like I'm lying to everyone, and I need to work on saying 'no' to things anyway." Hailey explained sheepishly.
"Wow, super mature of you, Rosie." Kirishima commented.
"Much thanks, therapy and being the 'mom-friend' teaches you things." Hailey jested.
Before the group could continue in their friendly banter, a loud alarm began blaring throughout the school.
"What the hell?!" Hailey exclaimed in surprise.
"Warning. Level Three Security Breach. All Students Evacuate In An Orderly Fashion" An automated message played over the speakers, instructing the students on what to do.
"A security breach? Is it really a villain or just some super noisy paparazzi?" Hailey questioned in annoyance as she stood up and followed her friends, despite the chaos ensuing.
Hoards of students were shoving through the hallways, but none were making any progress in trying to distance themselves from the school.
"Jesus, what a mob!" Hailey cursed as she was getting smushed between the crowd.
"What should we do?!" Kirishima grunted as elbows hit him.
"Can a tall person help me, I'm gonna get crushed!" Hailey wailed, fearful that due to her short height, she would be flattened into a pancake on the floor or wall.
But she tried to think of a way out of the situation, one that would ideally diffuse the panic among the students.
'I can't use my quirk to boost myself up a wall, I'll push people down and I don't wanna hurt people and be selfish like that.' Hailey thought, 'Where the hell are the teachers, I don't see any of them..'
Then Kirishima and Kaminari were pulled away from the crowd, Hailey tried reaching for them, but was bumped out of the way.
"Hey! Could you simmer down and stop pushing please?" Hailey winced in pain, as someone elbowed her in her shoulder.
Hailey remembered catching a glimpse of Iida also trying to help, and an idea popped in her head. She tried pushing past some people, but was yanked forward and luckily was face to face with Iida.
"Iida!" Hailey exclaimed with relief. "Thanks for the save, I was getting a little worried that I'd be squished down another 3 feet."
"I'm glad I was able to reach you in time then, you look like you have a plan." Iida observed.
"Kind of; you're a loud person." Hailey stated.
Iida gave her a confused look, as he didn't know if he was supposed to be offended or appreciative of the blunt statement. "Um, thank you?"
"Sorry, I just mean that you're good at grabbing people's attention, so if you can get into a position that can people can notice, you can explain what the hell is happening and calm everyone down." Hailey explained.
He nodded as he considered her idea and looked to Uraraka, as his own idea popped into his head. With that, Iida called for Uraraka to reach to him and use her quirk on him, once able to touch her fingertips, he was able to float in the air. Iida used his own quirk to move over to the top of the exit door, holding onto the ledge.
"Listen up!" Iida yelled, students directing their focus onto him, "Everything is okay! It's just the media outside. There's absolutely nothing to worry about! Everything's fine! We're U.A. students! We need to remain calm and prove that we're the best of the best!"
Hailey smiled with pride for her classmate, lifting a thumbs up to show him that she thought that he did a great job. It was impressive that he had the ability to diffuse the situation with not just easing his classmates, but the entire student body.
When things finally settled down, all of the students returned to their respective classrooms. In Class 1-A, Midoriya and Yaoyorozu stood before their classmates to address current affairs.
"W-We need to a-assign cl-class officers!" Midoriya sputtered anxiously, but then his demeanor suddenly shifted. "But first, there's something that I wanna say. I've thought a lot about this, and I think that Tenya Iida should be our class rep!"
This caught many of the students by surprise, but after the incident prior in the day, it was clear that Iida was indeed perfect for the job.
"I second that!" Hailey agreed enthusiastically.
"But Hailey, that plan to calm everyone down was your idea, I cannot accept if that is why I am being considered." Iida tried to reason, but Hailey shook her head.
"It's one thing to think of something, but it's another to act on it. I originally voted for you because you already understand that and have the qualities of a leader." Hailey assured him. "If anyone's gonna keep us in check, it'll for sure be you."
Many of the other students voiced their agreement with Hailey, causing Iida to be surprised with the overwhelming support.
"Thank you everyone, I promise to do my best!"

"Your nice girl personality is gonna kick you in the ass." Yuri grumbled on the screen of Hailey's laptop as she finished describing the events of the day to him and Luka.
Hailey rolled her eyes as she dabbed some ointment on her exposed arms, where bruises were prominently showing. "I think things will work out, Yura, so excuse me for not being an asshole."
"But that would have been really cool if you did become the class representative in your first year." Luka chimed in, strumming his guitar, trying to recreate a tune. "Was training tough today?" He inquired, noticing the bruises on Hailey's arms.
"I wish. Some U.A. students didn't know how to be aware of their surroundings during a security breach." Hailey replied, "I guess I didn't read the rule where you had to use your elbows to see where you're going."
"Oof to that." Luka sighed, shaking his head.
"I saw that on the news, I was wondering what was going on with how the entrance looked." Yuri noted.
"Yeah, we were lucky that it wasn't actually a villain attack, but after seeing the entrance door.." Hailey trailed off as she began to think.
"What are you thinking, Hails?" Luka asked, haunting his strumming.
"A powerful quirk could only be capable of causing that much damage, and I know that only super delusional and desperate paparazzi would even think of that. U.A. has a state-of-the-art security system, so this could sound crazy, you know if it sounds like my anxiety being stupid, let me know. But.. what if.. it was a villain trying to sneak in? Under the cover as a paparazzi?" Hailey suggested, weary of how her friends would react.
"That doesn't sound crazy." Luka assured.
Yuri shook his head, "No, it does."
"It doesn't Yuri." Luka insisted, "Not where Hailey is."
"Because that makes me feel better." Hailey said with sarcasm, "I kinda wished you said I was being crazy."
"Sorry, I'm just trying to see things from your point of view." Luka reassured.
Hailey sighed, "Man, if I would have known that being here would stress me out this much, I would have maybe reconsidered."
"Hailey Amelia Roselle, we did not raise you to be a quitter, you've come too far to quit now." Luka playfully scolded.
Hailey laughed, "Okay, okay, I'll try, for your sakes."
"Atta girl, keep making us proud."
