Prologue

>Attention, ladies and gentlemen. This is the final boarding call for flight CA 427 to New York City. Please proceed immediately to Gate 42. Final checks will be completed and the captain will order the doors of the aircraft to be closed within the next 15 minutes. I repeat, the aircraft doors for flight CA 427 to New York City will be closing within the next 15 minutes.<

"Already? Time flies." A man muttered, looking around for his wife. Seeing that she was nowhere to be seen, he quickly made his way to the nearest women's restroom and gently knocked on the door.

"Anna? Darling? We have to hurry, the boarding time is almost over."

"Michael..."

Hearing his wife's shaken voice, he forgot all about the curtsy and pushed the door open in a panic. His wife stood at the sink and looked at him with big eyes, tears threatening to fall.

"Anna, what happened? What is wrong?"

"He's coming..." She whispered.

"Who's coming?"

"Sean is coming, Michael!"

He looked confused, but then understanding dawned on his face as he quickly looked down.

" Your water broke!!"

Anna Smith gave birth to her son by C-section 4 weeks early in a hospital in China. The baby boy was weak and had trouble breathing, but the doctors said Anna and Michael shouldn't worry too much. Today was the last day of their vacation and they were on their way back to New York when Anna's water surprisingly broke. Or maybe not so surprising, considering that the little boy had been kicking his mother's belly almost every day since they landed in China. Almost as if he was eager to be let out of his little cage.

Ignoring the strange looks of the nurses, Michael and Anna stood in front of the incubator and smiled at their sleeping angel.

"Don't mind them, Anna," Michael said, turning to the nurses. "Is there a problem?"

The nurses shook their heads quickly and walked away with hurried steps.

"I can understand their behavior. An American woman gave birth to an Asian baby, but the father is also American. They probably think I cheated." Anna turned to her husband.

"I didn't, Michael. I will order a paternity test and prove it to you. Please believe me."

"I do, no need for a test." He smiled and pressed his lips to her forehead.

"First of all, no one knows you better than I do, not even your parents. You would never cheat. Secondly, how could you possibly cheat on me when we have been glued to each other since we got married? Unless the guy is an invisible loser whose performance only lasts the five minutes it takes you to use the bathroom ...."

"Michael!" Anna rolled her eyes but smiled.

"And finally, our son looks a lot like your great-grandfather. I am actually impressed. Sean got his looks from him."

Anna's ancestors were originally from China, but immigrated to America hundreds of years ago. After so many generations of intermarrying with Americans, it is not surprising that not many Asian babies were born after a while. Her great-grandfather was the last; everyone else was white, including Anna.

"I don't like the looks of these nurses either, but ignore them, darling. As soon as Sean is stable, we will return to America. Our parents are waiting anxiously and are quite upset that they were not present at his birth."

"If they are upset, they should blame Sean. Our little angel has been kicking me nonstop since we arrived here two weeks ago. He was the one who finally broke my water with his kicks. Now look at him. He is 2 hours old and already a master at playing innocent."

Michael chuckled and looked at his son. "Maybe we should change his nickname to Little Devil..."

"Don't you dare!" Anna threatened playfully and sighed contentedly. "He really is here, isn't he?"

"He is."

"I wanted to give birth to him naturally...A C-section shouldn't have been an option. He really has a knack for forcing people to change their plans..."

"I have a feeling he will be a troublemaker when he grows up. You still did a wonderful job, honey."

"With you as his father, it is no surprise that he is a troublemaker," Anna replied, looking at her husband with amusement. "Your mother told me some funny stories about your childhood and said she has many more to reveal."

"I'll stop her." Michael smiled, slightly embarrassed. The smile soon faded, however, as the machines their son was connected to began to beep, and as they looked at the little human, they saw his lips turn blue.

"Doctor!!" Anna screamed, panicking and pressing the red button while Michael ran off to get the nearest doctor to save little Sean. Anne stayed behind and started sobbing, unable to do anything but scream and watch as her son's lips turned bluer by the second.

"Please ..... not my baby... please save him... PLEASE!" She cried in agony. After being told by doctors that it would be difficult for her to conceive, her world almost collapsed, for she had longed to become a mother one day. Finding out that she was pregnant was the greatest gift she could ever ask for. She wouldn't be able to survive if her little boy died.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a man dressed in white appeared in the room near the incubator. Although he was dressed in white, he wasn't a doctor. His clothes looked like traditional Chinese robes, like those seen in the few shows Anna had occasionally watched in the past two weeks.

Normally, a strange-looking stranger approaching one's sick little newborn should make anyone worry, and Anna did worry, but that worry soon vanished when she saw the stranger's face. It wasn't his handsomeness, or at this point you could call it beauty, that kept her from freaking out, it was the way the man looked at little Sean. Anna couldn't decipher what it meant. She saw many emotions wash over his face, but what was most obvious were his eyes.

He looked at little Sean with what looked like shock and disbelief, followed by something else she couldn't put her finger on. Whatever it was, it made Anna forget about screaming in panic and threatening the stranger to stay away from little Sean. Her anxiety soon subsided and she felt an uncharacteristic calm considering the danger her son was in. It was frightening how calm she suddenly felt.

She didn't move and watched as the stranger raised his hand and held it over the still loudly beeping incubator and, as unbelievable as it may sound, a white blueish light shot out of it. The beeping soon stopped, and Anna saw Sean's lips return to normal as he opened his eyes and looked up at the stranger Anna would call Sean's guardian angel.

Anna realized her son had been saved and looked at the stranger who made it happen. He had saved and protected her son, and he looked so beautiful that it wasn't so absurd to think of him as Sean's guardian angel.

The angel looked up and met Anna's wide-open eyes. She felt like she was having an entire conversation with the angel just by looking into his eyes. Then he was gone. No words were said, and the stranger didn't sign anything. All he did was to look at Anna with such tenderness and seriousness before he disappeared.

"Quickly, my son... Doctor, quickly!" Michael's voice sounded as he hurried into the room, a doctor and a bunch of nurses following him. But of course there was no sign that Sean's life was in danger.

Anna kept her eyes on her son as the doctors examined him, and she caught a glimpse of something shiny around the baby's neck. She had never seen the necklace before, but when the doctors reached for it to take it off, Anna suddenly felt a shiver run down her spine.

"Leave it. It's his. He has to wear it!" She said, feeling a little uneasy. She couldn't explain her current feelings, but she knew for sure that there had to be a reason why the angel had left the necklace behind. She was sure that it had to be some kind of protective charm, and she was determined that no one would take it from her son.
