Last Chapter: Fate
As promised the new last chapter :)
I hope you will enjoy <3 <3
Wei Ying's POV
My eyes fluttered slightly when I started to wake up. It was difficult to remember where I was and what happened. Was it morning? Or was it evening? Which day was it? I didn't know because the last few days have all been the same. Or was it weeks? Maybe even months?
I felt Wang Ji next to me. His body pressed into mine with no barrier between us. He wore nothing and neither did I. When was the last time I wore something? When was the last time I wasn't naked?
"You woke up, my love." Wang Ji's voice was right next to my ear and before I even could open my eyes, he was on top of me. I barely felt it when he entered me, that's how used I got to it, yet I couldn't prevent the moan from escaping my lips.
"I have been waiting for you to wake up." He whispered and hit my sweet spot several times, making me moan louder, my hands were barely strong enough to grab his forearms. I got hard and it didn't take long for me to come.
The last days or weeks or maybe even months have all been the same. All I needed to do was flatter with my eyes or move just the slightest bit for Wang Ji to know I was awake. He would immediately make love to me for hours. He would bring me breakfast, lunch, or dinner to bed, depending on what time it was. And the type of food was the only thing that would tell what time it was.
If I needed to use the toilet, he would carry me to the bathroom. Afterward, we would bathe together and he would devour me. When we came back to bed, it was freshly made and he would put me down, only to make love to me all over again until I passed out. Once I woke up, everything repeated itself, making me unable to know how much time passed since we came to the mortal realm.
Expect for a bath or using the toilet, Wang Ji wouldn't let me leave the bed. All we did was make love. I didn't hate it. Not at all. I wanted him just as much, even more than when we were still in the immortal realm. I knew why. Not only because I loved him so much but also because of the feeling I felt. It was the feeling of freedom.
I was free from all the grief and pain, I could be myself and I could be with my beloved Wang Ji openly. There was no need to hide. That was making me excited as it was an amazing feeling.
"S-slower... Wang Ji...I can't...." I moaned as he pounded into me with no restraint. His back was arched and shortly after he came. He rode his orgasm, hitting my sweet spot a few more times until he make me come once more before sinking onto my body, catching his breath while nibbling onto my neck.
I was out of breath as I hugged Wang Ji as tightly as my strength allowed me to. I knew this moment of peace and silence wouldn't last for long. Just a couple of minutes later, Wang Ji rose and went back to do what he was the best in. Making love to me, making me feel loved, making me never let this end. He was calling out my name often, he would kiss me, bite me, lick me. He would suck each part of my body while hitting my sweet spot ever so often. No part of my body wasn't marked by him. This lets others see who owned me and despite this ownership, I felt as free as ever before. Not that I got to see anyone ever since coming here. All I saw every day was Wang Ji, all I heard was him, and all I felt was just him. And I loved it. It was just him and me. Just us and our immortal love and our immortal hunger for each other.
The time we made love, the time we were deeply connected exceeded the time we weren't, making it feel weird when he left my hole and parted from me. He inside me was more normal to me than when he wasn't.
"Wei Ying... my love...." He moaned and became faster. Wang Ji felt it too. The freedom to love each other and to do whatever we wanted without caring for anyone else.
"Urgh-!" I arched my back feeling his semen hitting my inner walls. He didn't stop pounding into me but became even faster, pressing his lips against mine and kissing me like there was no tomorrow, making me release as well. Actually, there was no tomorrow. At least there was no tomorrow, which didn't turn out to be like today or the day before.
"I love you, Wei Ying.... I love you so much...." He whispered usually, I would tell him that I loved him too but today I was too tired and passed out shortly after.
I woke up to the sound of my stomach. It growled smelling the food.
"Dinner is ready, my love." Wang Ji was right next to me, helping me to sit up to eat.
Dinner, he said. It was evening.
"Open your mouth." I followed his gentle words and soon felt the taste of sweet potatoes melting in my mouth. My stomach growled louder and I almost devoured the food, so hungry was I.
"Slowly, Wei Ying. You will choke otherwise." Wang Ji reprimanded me softly, making me grunt. The only reason for my hunger was the amount of energy I used up while making love.
"You...?" I mumbled before taking another bite.
"I ate already. I will wait for you to finish before taking a bite from my dessert."
Unconsciously I started to ear a little faster, knowing fully well what kind of dessert he was talking about. I ate three portions before I had enough. Wang Ji then picked up my sore body and helped me to the toilet. Afterward, we took a bath and Wang Ji took his time to wash me and himself. My body became so sensitive that the simplest touch of him aroused me.
"It seems you are not spent yet, my love." Wang Ji whispered and nudged his nose against my cheeks.
"My body is broken..." I mumbled. "It's your fault...."
"I would like to say I am sorry but..." He chuckled and kissed me deeply. "I am not. I will never be sorry for loving you, Wei Ying. And I will prove this to you every day that is to come. Every second of them." He kissed me again while his hands went down to play with that swollen body part of mine. I did it after him and touched his tail, feeling that he was just as swollen as mine and not only due to being aroused.
Wang Ji hissed and got up. He picked me up, dried us up hurriedly, and returned to bed. I wasn't even able to take in a proper breath before he was sheathed deep within me. His manhood moved fast, hitting my sweet spot with such a speed that all that I could do was moan, which turned my beloved on, even more, making him fasten his speed.
'How long will this bed last?' I asked myself.
But there was something else. Something important. I felt like I missed something. I had the feeling I forgot something very important and tried to remember what it was. But before I could, these thoughts vanished and all I could think of was Wang Ji and the amount of love and pleasure I felt.
This time I was woken up by a beam of light. My eyes fluttered but I wasn't able to open them due to the bright light. I moved my head slightly to not look directly into it. I sighed silently.
Then I frowned. Something wasn't right.
Usually, Wang Ji would already be on top of me, even better, making love to me and moaning out my name. But this time he didn't. Under the blanket, I stretched out my arm, trying to reach for my beloved, yet there was nothing but coldness and emptiness.
This wasn't normal and I opened my eyes immediately, feeling a little panicked. Where was he? Where was my Wang Ji? I managed to turn my sore body to the other side. Despite having a lot of hot baths, my body felt sore from the bottom to the top. It wasn't a surprise considering the amount of lovemaking we did, even during the baths.
I was about to panic even more due to the empty bedside next to me but that was soon forgotten and I calmed down the moment I saw the beautiful scene in front of me.
There he was, my beloved, sitting on a chair at the window, with both our children on each arm. He looked down at them with a content smile. This warmed my heart and I stopped moving, watching Wang Ji and the twins.
The warm feeling within my body, within my heart, became more evident. It became hot but it didn't burn me.
"I am so happy...." I mumbled quietly yet loud enough for Wang Ji to hear. He looked up and his gaze met mine. I saw thousands of unspoken words in his golden orbs and I smiled.
"You woke up, my love."
"I did...." I mumbled and tried to get up. I wanted to see my two children have I only seen a few glimpses of them the day they were born. How many days have passed since then?
My sore body however complained, and wouldn't let me sit up or even move. Wang Ji got up instead and carried the two bundles in his arms towards the bed, towards me. He leaned down and put them on the bed right next to me.
"No, Wang Ji. The blankets are-"
"Clean, my love. They have been changed when I bathed you."
"You bathed me while I was asleep?" I raised my eyebrows. "Without waking me up?"
"I tried to but you were deeply asleep." He grinned and I chuckled, knowing full well why he would try to wake me up.
"Will you ever get enough?"
"Of loving you? No, never. I am going to love you forever and I am going to make love to you every single day."
"Hmm, I like that." I smiled widely before my eyes laid on my children. They had their eyes on me the whole time as I spoke to Wang Ji.
"They recognize your voice." Wang Ji said and when our son's eyes turned to Wang Ji, he corrected his statement. "They recognize our voices."
I raised my hands and took a hold of the boy's tiny stretched-out hand. Then I looked at my daughter who had watched me silently.
"She is so small..." I mumbled and caressed her cheeks.
"She is but don't you worry. She is healthy. And so is he." He took the boy's other hand in his. "We can't separate them for longer than a minute before one of them starts to cry."
"Wang Ji... how long have we been here? They can already open their eyes...."
"About three weeks."
I looked at him in shock. "Three weeks!? And all we did was-" I blushed without finishing the sentence.
He chuckled. "I love you, Wei Ying. I do not regret not letting you go for the past three weeks. You can't tell me you regret it."
"I don't," I mumbled and turned my attention back to the twins. Suddenly I was reminded of something else. I looked at Wang Ji. "Where is Wen Ning!?"
"Sleeping. He took care of the twins while we were busy."
"All this time? Without getting rest? Wang Ji, we should have-"
"He loves the twins and doesn't mind taking care of them. Albeit he approached me earlier this morning and asked for a little time out. I couldn't deny him, could I? These two have been quite naughty the last two days. Wen Ning is dead tired."
"I feel so sorry.... Wang Ji, I think we should stop giving him so much trouble."
"You want to deny me my daily portion of lovemaking?" He asked amused and I glared at him. Seemingly not threatening enough. "As if you could resist me."
"What we did was not daily but hourly!" I reprimanded him.
"And you wanted it too, my love. Don't make me look like I am the evil one."
"You are... attacking me while I am barely awake... you monster...." I mumbled and saw him raising his brows.
"Monster?" He climbed into the bed and crawled towards me. "Want me to show you how you will feel if I behave like a monster?"
A wave of heat went through my whole body but I suppressed it almost immediately. "Don't you dare, Lan Wang Ji. The twins are here!"
"I could wake Wen Ning up and let him take them out..."
"Wang Ji..." I warned him but shockingly it came out in a rather needy way. I glared at him.
"I love the effect I have on you, my love." He chuckled and pecked my lips. "Don't worry. I won't do naughty things while the twins are present. I am going to be an exemplary father. And I will let your body rest for a while so you can recover and take in a monster like me."
Another soft kiss in which I melted. We kissed for a while. Not unrestrained and wild but gentle. Now and then we would stop and look at each other, smile, and return to taste the other's lips.
When we heard a little whining coming from our son, we stopped. "He is more vocal than his sister," I said and smiled.
"Mhn, he is." Wang Ji smiled and laid down on the other side, caging the twins between us. He then continued to play with the boy's hand until I decided to ask him.
"Have you decided on names?" I wanted to know.
"Mhn..." He looked at our daughter. "I decided to giver her the name I couldn't give your fifth daughter."
"Which is?"
"Yanli." He looked at our son. "And his name will be Wanyin."
"Lan Yanli and Lan Wanyin." I spoke their names softly. "I like them."
"Really? If not, you can still change them."
"Why? I think they are perfect. Our children have beautiful names."
Suddenly there was a weak whine coming from Yanli and I saw Wanyin turning to her, stretching out his hands to put them on his sister's stomach. The whining stopped.
"He is going to be a great older brother," I said watching the twins doing nothing and still making me fall for them.
"Mhn. He will be a great help in getting rid of every man that will try to woo our daughter."
I laughed softly. "Sooner or later, Yanli will get married. There is nothing you can do."
"There is plenty Wanyin and I can do. As long as one of us is alive, no one will get his hands on Yanli." Wang Ji looked at our son. "You will help me, won't you?"
A soft giggle came out of Wanyin's mouth.
"Good. Let's work together and make sure no man even thinks of getting close to Yanli." He took Wanying's hand and shook it before leaning down and kissing each child's forehead.
"You are being childish."
"I don't care." He smiled. "These are my children and I have every right to protect them in every way possible."
"You are a great father, Wang Ji."
"And so are you, my love." He kissed me softly before moving back after hearing a very loud sound. He started laughing at me. "What was that?"
"I am hungry..." I confessed and he nodded.
"I will prepare breakfast for you and the twins. Wait for a little, my love."
"Come back fast," I said, not only because I was hungry.
"Don't worry, I will be back as soon as possible. Remember, you won't ever be able to get rid of me. No one can separate us. I love you, Wei Ying."
"I love you too, my beloved." His eyes sparkled at the pet name while his aura turned dark red. I bit my lips to suppress a laugh while he left to prepare breakfast.
While he was gone I looked at the twins. "I can't help but fall for your father more and more.... What should I do, you two?"
Yanli just looked at me quietly while Wanyin stretched out his arms. "You know what? I will ask you that again once you are older and can answer me."
After everything that happened in the immortal realm, and I mean mostly the bad things, I never believed I would find peace and happiness again. But I did. With Wang Ji, Wen Ning, and the twins here in the mortal realm. But it was indeed amusing how I needed to get used to the fact to live a normal life, far away from all the royalty.
But I managed to do that very well. All of us did. Well, except for Wen Ning. Leaving the immortal realm meant for him to stop being a servant. Not that I ever saw him as just a servant. He was my friend, my family. He knew that but it seemed old habits die hard. No matter what Wang Ji and I said or did, it was impossible to change Wen Ning's habits. He still thought it was his job to serve us and all we could do was make sure he wouldn't take it too seriously.
He learned how to cook and would prepare all the food. At first, I was a little irritated thinking he was doing it just to serve us but I was wrong. Wen Ning visibly enjoyed cooking. He cooked so often that there was no way for us to finish everything up. Therefore he went through the neighborhood, not really a neighborhood as it was quite far from our little house deep in the forest, and distributed the food, making quite a few fans along the way, yet too shy to talk to any of them for longer than 5 minutes.
I was surprised that nothing changed since I left here years ago but also content. My daughter, who became the empress, died a few years ago. I couldn't meet her anymore but sometimes I had the chance to get a glimpse at her children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. They looked all a lot like her, or in Wang Ji's opinion, a lot like me.
My life purpose was gardening, selling fruits, vegetables, herbs, and many other things I could grow in my garden or find in the forest. My skill in finding things has never left me and became a good tool. I also went out to the market once a week to sell my self-made medicine to help people. It might be too late to become a renowned doctor but I could say with a clear conscience that I was just as skilled as one.
My beloved did help me wherever he could. Be it making medicine, taking care of the garden, joining me on a tour in the forest to find things I needed and he would collect firewood.
Wang Ji also loved to work on our house. Repair things or just make the house a little bigger. A bathroom here, a new room there. For that, he sometimes would fell a tree but of course not without planting a new one. His spiritual energy he used rarely. We were promised that no one would find us but Wang Ji wanted to make sure and used them as less as possible.
Our children grew with time and at some point, they would need a bathroom and a bedroom for themselves. Albeit I think that the twins weren't fond of the idea to be separated. In the end, one of them would always sneak into the other's bed.
"Mama..." I turned around and saw the three years old Yanli showing me what she caught with her small bare hands.
"Yes, it's beautiful. But didn't Papa tell you to not disturb the bunnies?" I smiled when Yanli put the animal to the ground and it quickly hopped away to its family. Or to Wen Ning. It didn't matter if we were in the immortal realm or the mortal realm, the bunnies loved Wen Ning.
Yanli suddenly looked to a certain spot, then turned around and run away. Soon afterward, Wanying approached me, coming from the direction Yanli looked at just seconds ago.
"Mama, Yanli?" He asked me and I pointed toward the direction she run to, making my son turn around and follow his little sister.
"These two..." I chuckled.
Wanyin was a real father-child. If he wasn't playing with his sister he would follow his father. His first words were Dada which made Wang Ji very happy. I wasn't very amused and therefore took our daughter and hid her from Wang Ji until she finally spoke her first words. Mama.
I didn't mind what my children called me. Be it Papa or Mama. I gave birth to them so I was kind of like a mother. So I allowed them to call me how they liked.
"Hey, Mama." Wang Ji wrapped his arms around me from behind me and snuggled into my neck.
"Where have you been?" I smiled, turned around, and pulled my beloved into a kiss.
"Collecting more firewood. The weather is getting colder."
"Indeed."
Suddenly we heard a squeak. Wang Ji and I looked at each other and immediately run in the direction where the twins run off earlier. I sighed seeing the scene in front of me.
"Wanyin, let down your sister."
"She likes it..." He said and pointed at Yanli, who was floating a few meters above our heads, grinning happily.
"I know but what did we tell you about using spiritual energy in this way?" I reprimanded him softly, making him nod and let his sister down who pouted and then run away with Wanyin following her closely. We heard a few more squeaks from both children but knew they would behave. Ever since they turned two they took a liking to use their spiritual power. A few times Wen Ning had to suffer from the twin's pranks, and I and Wang Ji too wasn't spared.
"These little troublemakers..." I shook my head.
"I think they have gotten that from you, my love." Wang Ji chuckled and I glared at him.
"I am pretty sure the spiritual energy they did not inherit from me, Lan Wang Ji!"
"True, that they got from me, but playing pranks, or rather provoking others, that is your talent."
"When did I provoke you today?"
"Your existence alone is provocation enough, my love." He grinned and kissed me hard. I melted like butter in his arms and Wang Ji's arms were the only ones that were able to keep me standing.
Once our lips separated, I panted hastily, holding onto Wang Ji. "Wen Ning!"
Wen Ning came out of the house and approached me wearing an apron covered with flour. For a few days, he has been obsessed with baking bread or cakes, much to my body's disadvantage for I loved eating cake.
"You called me, your Highness?" Well, that was another thing we couldn't change easily. The way he addressed us was still the same and he already said he wouldn't change it.
"Wang Ji and I will be upstairs and would like to be alone. Could you watch the twins?"
Wen Ning knew what I was talking about and blushed.
"Wanyin, Yanli?" He called out their names and soon the twins came running. They loved their uncle Wen Ning, sometimes even more than us for he seldom reprimanded them and often allowed them to do what they wanted.
"Your parents have something to do. How about you help me in the kitchen?" Yanli grinned and raised her hands but Wen Ning held them before something happened. "Without spiritual energy. Or do you want your father to seal them again?"
Yes, Wang Ji did seal them once for them to stop playing pranks or using them in front of a mortal. Thankfully no one has seen the twins using their energy.
Yanli pouted again and pulled back her hands. Seconds later she giggled and followed Wen Ning into the house. Wanyin turned around and run to us. He clung to Wang Ji's leg and frowned.
Wang Ji chuckled and picked him up. "What is it, son?"
"Where are you going?"
"We will be ... upstairs."
"Can I come along?"
"But we want to be alone..."
"I want to come along." He wrapped his arms around Wang Ji's neck and hid his face.
"Okay then. Guess we have to let Yanli have all the fun with uncle Wen Ning. Let's go." Suddenly Wanyin kicked with his feet.
"No, down. Down!" Wang Ji put him down and our son sprinted into the house. The moment he was out of sight, Wang Ji picked me up and threw me on our bed only seconds later.
"Finally!" He growled and tore my garments open without caring if they broke or not.
"You are so... impatient...." I panted in anticipation watching him get rid of his own clothes.
"I am going to make sure you will get pregnant with hundred of twins tonight."
I laughed. "If I would be able to conceive I wouldn't be surprised if that actually happened." I moaned when he entered me. "But can you handle hundreds of Yanlis and Wanyins?"
"With you by my side, I can handle everything." He growled and soon I was unable to form any words except his name and continued to moan it until early in the next day.
Our life couldn't have been better. Everyone was happy, especially seeing the twins growing up into a fine young man and a beautiful young lady. Both were now 40 years old, looked like 16, and were behaving like 12 years old.
There was one thing I, or rather all of us, had too less from. Time. Not regarding Wang Ji, Wen Ning, or the twins but regarding me.
I was aging way too fast. Well, normal for a mortal, but still too fast in my opinion. Also, I didn't want to do without lovemaking and the older I get, the wilder in bed it got between Wang Ji and me. But that was over the moment I turned 60. I couldn't do it anymore. Not because my body didn't work but because my mind didn't let me. To others, I looked like a grandpa with his grandchild.
Wang Ji, of course, understood what I was saying and even though he looked unhappy for not being able to prove his love to me, he agreed to everything I said. Not that he didn't try to seduce me. Sometimes it even worked because I loved Wang Ji more than anything. I didn't want to be separated from him. Not during the day and especially not during the night.
We were still happier than anyone else. Living our lives in peace and full of love.
Everything was perfect but that too changed sooner than I wanted.
Right now I was 77 years old and unfortunately, my health wasn't good. I had to stay in bed with Wang Ji not leaving my side at all. He knew it, I knew it. My time was almost over.
I have never seen Wang Ji like he was now. He was quieter than ever and there was fear written all over his face and shown in his aura. He tried to hide it but that was impossible as we were talking about me. I saw everything. I squeezed Wang Ji's hand in mine.
Suddenly we heard a laugh and soon Yanli run into our bedroom. "Mama, Wanyin has a crush on someone. It's the youngest daughter of the baker." She giggled and soon Wanyin crushed into the room.
"What are you saying!?" He hissed and looked at me. "She is wrong. She misunderstood-"
"I didn't! I saw how you looked at her. But I don't think she feels the same. I saw her stalking the grandson of the major."
"She is not!"
"Why are you so angry?"
"I am not!" Wanyin pouted and stomped with his foot. Yanlin's melodic laugh echoed through the room.
"Do you like her?" I asked him and saw his cheeks turning red.
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"He is lying." Yanli laughed.
"I am not!" He hissed and looked at the ground.
"Wanyin." It was Wang Ji who called our son. He showed the first smile in days. "If you like her, I could go down and ask her for her hand in marriage."
"What!? No!" Wanyin shook his head violently. "She doesn't even like me. I don't want to.... you know? Like, stopping her from chasing her dreams and stuff...."
I chuckled. "Is that the only reason?" I asked and despite Wanyin nodding his head, I knew he was lying.
"Papa!" Yanli pouted at Wang Ji.
"Yes, my dear?"
"Why would you allow him to marry anyone he likes but I am not even allowed to look at a man for longer than 3 seconds?"
"Your brother is older and if he likes someone, he should get married. And you can look at four handsome men as long as you want to every day. Well, except for Wen Ning, maybe. He would probably run out into the woods and only come out again when you sleep." Wang Ji answered our daughter.
"I will make sure to teach him how to act in front of others, especially women." Yanli giggled and then turned serious again. "I don't mind looking at the four of you. But I want to get married too someday."
"No!!" Wanyin and Wang Ji both glared at her. Yanli gaped at them before turning to me.
"Mama!"
I smiled at her and wanted to say something but Wang Ji beat me to it.
"Don't even try, Yanli. I won't allow you to get married or be in a relationship until you turn 10.000 years old!"
"Why!?" Yanli whined. "Why am I not allowed to? You allow Wanyin but not me. Why? Don't you think it's unfair? I mean, this makes it look like you are more worried about me than about Wanyin. That will make others believe you love me more than him. They don't know about him not having your blood but they could find out..."
"Don't even try to use the Guilty-trap, Yanli." Wanyin chuckled. "Not only Papa but I too won't allow you to get married. But I am going to be worse, you are not allowed to marry until you turn 100.000 years."
"I am not using any trap, Wanyin. I just think it's unfair! I want to fall in love too."
"No one is against you falling in love. You are just not allowed to have a relationship and get married or start a family. Falling in love is no problem." Wanyin answered.
"Your brother is right. Just make sure to tell us if you do start to have feelings for someone so we can check him out. And if he won't like him, we can think about ways to get rid of him." Wang Ji answered and earned a nod from our son. "And for your information, Yanli. I don't care if he has the same blood as I do or not. Wanyin is my son. Only mine! No one else's."
"I know... I just.... you all are too unfair!" She threw her hands in the air, walked around the bed, and hugged me. "Mama!"
I laughed and patted her soft hair. "This is the curse to be loved by your family, sweetheart. But don't worry, if you really do like someone very very much, I am sure your father and your brother will support you."
"They will?" She looked at me hopefully.
"Yes." I nodded. "Just your husband will going to have a very tough life ahead but if he really loves you, he will sacrifice that little for you." I laughed seeing Yanli pout again and hide her face in my neck. I continued to pat her head.
When the twins turned 18 we told them about the immortal realm, how I ended up there, how I lived there, and how I fell in love with Wang Ji. We also told him about the emperor and Lan Huan and what he did. Wang Ji was against it at first, didn't want them to know about his brother as it would make no difference. Wang Ji would never accept Lan Huan as Wanyin's father. He was very adamant about that. But I wanted them to know everything there was to know and in the end, Wang Ji gave in.
Wanyin and Yanli both were shocked to find out they were only half related. Wanyin however wasn't angry at all. At least not at Wang Ji and me. Hearing about his biological father made him furious and he run away from home. At first, he couldn't accept the truth but after Wang Ji went out to look for him and the both of them had a talk, did he calm down. He accepted that his blood is not the same as that of Wang Ji and hoped that Wang Ji wouldn't mind it either.
"You are my son, Wanyin. Just like Yanli is my daughter. My brother has no relevance in our lives. He is not important. You, Yanli, Wen Ning, Wei Ying, and I are a family. I am your father, Wei Ying is your father and your mother, Wen Ning is your uncle and Yanli is your twin sister."
When I heard Wang Ji saying that to our son, I send Wanyin away and decided to have Wang Ji all for myself. Okay, I might have used that as an excuse just to have my way with him but I was indeed more than happy to hear Wang Ji acknowledging Wanyin as his son. I always was when Wang Ji did.
"I love you, Wang Ji." This sentence I repeated over and over again while making love to him. I barely could remember how long it took us before we had enough.
"I know something!" Yanli sat up and grinned. "I will just go out, take Uncle Wen Ning, and pull him to the next church to marry him. I love him anyway. So? What are you going to do about it!?"
I shook my head in amusement and Wang Ji and Wanyin looked at each other.
"I mean... they have known each other for so long... and uncle Wen Ning is a really good man. I like him too."
"True..." Wang Ji nodded. "Wen Ning loves Yanli and Yanli loves Wen Ning. I am sure they will turn out to be a perfect pair. I trust Wen Ning with everything, even with the lives of our family."
"Then I will call him and we go to church together. I am sure we will get an appointment at short notice."
Yanli gaped at her father and her brother while listening to their conversation. Then she turned to me with a glare. "There is no way I am related to them! Mama, do something!"
"Wang Ji, Wanyin! Don't make Wen Ning run away and hide in the woods! And stop bullying Yanli." I reprimanded the two before turning to Yanli. "Stop challenging your father and your brother. They will do everything to protect you. And so will I."
"But you won't be as unreasonable as these two..."
"True... But I can be even worse if I wanted to...." I winked at her then laughed seeing her cute pouty face. I laughed so much that I soon had a coughing attack and everyone become serious.
Today, I could feel it, was my last day. I couldn't explain why I knew it, I just did. Wang Ji never left my side ever since I was bedridden. The worse my health got, the worse he looked. And there was nothing I could do.
"Wang Ji..." I called my beloved. "Can you call in the twins and leave us for a moment?"
"No." Wang Ji refused. "I can call them in but I won't leave. I won't ever leave your side."
"I won't die in the meantime, Wang Ji."
"No."
"Wang Ji.... please.... I need to talk with our children."
"Talk then. I won't leave."
"Lan Wang Ji!" I called him by his full name and tried my best to look as angry as possible. Wang Ji hated it when I was angry.
"Do I really have to leave?"
"Yes. Just 10 minutes. I don't need more."
"Fine... just 10 minutes!" He warned me and called in the twins. "Only 10 minutes, not one second longer."
I chuckled and nodded before he left. I knew he was waiting in front of the door and he probably was listening to our conversation.
"Wanyin..." I called my oldest and signaled him to use his spiritual power to pull up a wall so Wang Ji couldn't spy on us.
"Mama?" Yanli called me and looking at her face told me she knew he hadn't much longer to live. Actually, I felt already pretty tired but I needed to stay strong for a little while longer, secretly begging the goddesses.
"The two of you always call me Mama... not once did you call me Papa." I chuckled.
"Papa..." Wanyin called me, making me laugh.
"Keep calling me Mama. I like hearing it and I am not used to being called Papa. I was just teasing you." I suppressed a cough.
"Mama, you-" I raised my hands and she stopped.
"I... I am tired, Yanli." I confessed and leaned back. "I don't have the strength nor much time left."
"Don't say that! I am sure-" Wanyin interrupted me but I made him stop talking by merely raising my hand.
"Listen, my angels. I need you to do me a favor. I already talked to Wen Ning, he swore to help." I took the hand of each of my children. "I want you to take care of your father. He is... emotional. He loves me. He loved me more than anything else. Even more than his own life. I am scared he might make a wrong decision."
"Knowing him, he will. He can't live without you. We can't either. Can't you not leave?" Wanyin asked and I smiled.
"This is not my decision. I am a mortal, Wanyin. My time is limited. I, Wang Ji, and everyone else knew. When I first find out about immortals I didn't mind being not one. I didn't mind dying one day. But when I fell in love with your father... I realized I wanted to be immortal too. I didn't want to leave him. I didn't want to die. Unfortunately, I can't change what I am. A mortal."
Yanli sobbed and I caressed her cheeks. "It's okay, Yanli. I knew this was inevitable."
"It's unfair... it's so unfair... there are people out there who are immortal but don't deserve to be. And then there is you who deserves it but you aren't one. All this is so unfair..."
"Stop crying, my angel." I kissed her hands. "I not once regretted falling in love with your father. If I could turn back time, I would choose him all over again. And I know your father well enough to know that he would choose me too. That is love."
"Love is scary..."
"It isn't. You just have to find the one, you know?" I asked her and chuckled. "But do take your time, okay? You know that your father and your brother won't make it easy for you. If I would be there, I would neither."
"I won't fall in love. Especially not with a mortal..."
I sighed. "Yanli..." I called her and turned to my son. "Wanyin..."
"Yes?" Both said in unison.
"I won't you to be unbiased. Love who you love. You shouldn't care if one is immortal or mortal. I know, it's going to be difficult. Just thinking about leaving Wang Ji behind hurts me more than any pain I ever felt. Don't think the immortal one is the only one in pain. The one who leaves the world is in just as much pain. So, if there should ever be someone, even if it's a mortal, and you two share mutual feelings, don't run away. Don't hurt the other's feelings just because you are scared."
"I won't be able to fall in love with a mortal..." Yanli sobbed and Wanyin took her into his arms.
"That is what you say now but you can't control your heart, sweetheart." I looked at Wanyin. "None of you can."
I sighed and leaned back again. "I am sure you are going to make the right decisions. You are adults know. I still remember how small the two of you were a few years ago. So small and light... it was a miracle to suddenly have not one but two children. Beautiful twins, both immortal..."
"Mama..."
I looked at my children. "Take good care of your father. Stop him from making the wrong decision. He is going to be too emotional for a while. I want you to never leave him alone. If he should ever try something... anything stupid.... remind him of me. Remind him of my love for him and that I don't want him to suffer like this. I don't want him dead! I want him to live, be the good father he is, and maybe... maybe even fall in love again."
"You would allow him to fall in love again?" Wanyin gaped at me. I chuckled.
"Of course. I might turn in my grave and probably curse the hell out of his new lover but... I would be happy for him. Not for his lover, I don't care about that person who dares to steal what is mine, but I would be happy for my beloved Wang Ji. If he is happy, I will be happy too."
The twins looked at each other and then back at me. I frowned. "Don't tell him I said that or he won't even try to fall in love again. I wouldn't mind but- no, wait! I don't want him to be lonely so if there is someone who keeps him company, then that would be wonderful. It would be even better if the one who keeps him company is one of you two or Wen Ning instead of- no! Forget it..."
Yanli and Wanyin both smiled.
"Don't laugh! You don't have any idea how difficult this is.... Wang Ji is mine! Only mine! I don't want to share him with anyone! But I also don't want him to be alone. He is going to live for a very, very long time after all.... Make sure he doesn't fall in love with a mortal again!"
"Mama, didn't you say we shouldn't be biased? Why not allow him to fall in love with a mortal?" Yanli giggled with tears in her eyes.
"That sentence was for you two. Just thinking of Wang Ji falling in love over and over again... making me have to share him with so many people... No! I won't allow that. Should he fall in love, it has to be an immortal. That way I can keep the amounts of rivals to a minimum..."
The twins laughed at my antics. It may sound funny but it was true. I might be dead but just thinking of sharing my Wang Ji with someone else... It gives me the creeps.
I shook my head to get any images out of my head. "Yanli, Wanyin, can you promise me to help your father? Stay with him, will you? Make him stop even thinking of following me, you heard me!?"
"Yes, Mama." Both answered in unison.
"I won't let him make any wrong decision. We will be there for him. Uncle Wen Ning will too."
"Yanli is right. Don't worry, Mama. Papa will be fine. I promise."
I smiled and nodded at my babies. Yes, they were adults but to me, they are going to be my babies forever.
Suddenly the door burst open. "10 minutes are over!" Wang Ji was at my side and this time held my hand even more desperately.
"Really.... " I shook my head and looked at the twins. "Thank you, my angels. Now let me have some time with your father, won't you."
They nodded and left. I saw Wen Ning at the door and smiled at him. He looked like he was about to cry but before I saw anything, Wanyin closed the door.
"I am a little cold. How about a cuddle?" I asked my beloved who joined me under the blanket. I snuggled up to him, my head laying on his bright shoulder. To outsiders that would probably look hilarious, maybe even perverse. A 77-years old man cuddling with a 20-year-old boy. I didn't care.
We lay there like this for a while.
"Wang Ji..." I turned to him. We looked at each other for some time before I slowly pulled him closer, pressing my lips against his. The older I got, the fewer kisses we shared. I felt unwell doing so while being this old. Wang Ji never minded how I looked or how old I was but I did.
But today was an exception. It was my last moment with him, I felt it. So I kissed him softly. Wang Ji deepened the kiss and I allowed him to. It was one of the wildest and deepest kisses we shared in years. Wang Ji clung onto me, I clung onto him. I forgot how it felt to kiss Wang Ji like this. So deep and wild and ... full of love and passion.
We stopped when I run out of air. I leaned back and then snuggled up to my beloved again. Slowly, very slowly I closed my eyes.
"Wang Ji... I love you, my beloved prince.... I love you...." I mumbled.
"Wei Ying...." He pulled me closer. "I love you so much more, my love, so much more...."
I smiled and slowly fell asleep.
Forever....
3rd POV
There was a loud, agonized scream coming from Wei Ying's bedroom and the twins as well as Wen Ning turned around in shock. That scream symbolized the pain and sorrow of only one person, Lan Wang Ji.
"He is gone, isn't he? Mama is gone..." Yanli whispered and soon found herself in her brother's arms. Wen Ning stepped forward and put one arm around each of the twins.
"We need to take care of His Highness. He needs us, especially the two of you more than anything right now. But for now... let's give him time alone."
"He won't do anything, will he?" Yanli asked worriedly.
"I doubt it. But just in case, the two of you should stay here. I will prepare the funeral of his high- I mean, the funeral of Wei Ying."
And while the twins stayed close to the bedroom, Wen Ning went out to prepare everything needed to burn Wei Ying's body. If the twins or anyone else would have followed Wen Ning, they would have found him on the ground, crying his heart out in sorrow for losing his master and best friend.
The twins held onto each other while sobbing and trying coup with the loss of their mother.
Wang Ji sat on the bed and held Wei Ying in his arms. Ever since his scream fell silent, he sat there staring into the air. He tried to understand what just happened, he tried to accept the loss of his love. He looked down at the body in his arms.
"Please wake up..." He mumbled while softly caressing Wei Ying's soft but slightly cold cheeks.
"Don't leave me here.... my love..."
"Please come back.... I beg you... Wei Ying..."
But no matter how much he cried and begged, Wei Ying didn't open his eyes anymore. He was gone for good and Wang Ji knew it. He just couldn't accept it.
Three days later
Wen Ning and the twins bid farewell to Wei Ying first. Seeing him laying on a bed made of branches hurt them a lot. They knew soon nothing would be left of their mother and best friend, so they bid farewell. Taking their time and whispering many things into Wei Ying's ears, not caring that all that would never reach his ears. It didn't matter for Wei Ying surely knew all of their sayings anyway.
"I want to .... to go to ... the temple..." Yanli sobbed while holding onto his brother who looked as pale as ever before.
"Let's go then" He took his sister and helped her walk. "I want to pray to the goddesses."
Wen Ning was worried about the twins and he was also worried about Wang Ji. He didn't know what to do. Follow the twins or stay behind with Wang Ji. It was Wanyin who decided for him.
"Wen Ning, take care of our father. Make sure nothing happens. We promised Mama."
"Yes, Your Highness." Wen Ning answered with a bow.
"You really never learn, do you?" Wanyin chuckled hearing Wen Ning addressing him like that.
"I am sorry, Wanyin. I am not used not saying it...."
"Yanli and I, you can call by our names. As for Papa... " He looked over to Wang Ji who stood in front of Wei Ying's deathbed.
"I understand..." Wen Ning bowed and watched how the twins left for the nearest temple to pray.
Not wanting to interrupt Wang Ji from his mourning, Wen Ning kept a distance and watched over Wang Ji as well as his master and friend.
Wang Ji gently caressed the ice-cold cheeks of his beloved. He never felt as lonely as he felt right now. If he could, he would follow Wei Ying. Wherever he went, Wang Ji would always follow. But he knew that Wei Ying wouldn't allow him to, he would never speak to him ever again. He couldn't bear that thought so he didn't dare to do anything stupid for now. But how long would he be able to withstand to stay put and do nothing? How long would Wang Ji be able to be separated from the man he loved more than anything else in this world?
A soft breeze hit his face and Wang Ji chuckled. "Is that your way of saying don't you dare?"
Another soft breeze. "I won't, my love. I won't." Wang Ji smiled and kissed Wei Ying's cold forehead. His gaze then fell on Wei Ying's necklace, the gift of the seer called Xiao Xingchen who died unjustly on the birthday of his children. He took it in his hands and stroked over the crystal.
"It would be a pity to burn this beautiful necklace. You don't mind if I take that with me, do you?" He mumbled. "This is all I have left of you after all."
Another soft breeze hit Wang Ji's face. If that was really Wei Ying's soul or just a coincidence, no one could tell. But Wang Ji liked the idea of Wei Ying's soul being around, watching over him.
"My love..." Wang Ji bend down and pressed his lips softly against the cold ones from Wei Ying. He closed his eyes and didn't move for several minutes. "I love you, Wei Ying. Now and forever."
With that Wang Ji took the necklace, stepped back, reached for the torch, and set fire to the deathbed of Wei Ying. He watched the flames getting higher, warming up the cold body of Wei Ying, only to slowly burn it down to ashes.
It had been Wei Ying's wish to be burned. He didn't want to get buried in the wet soil and slowly rot over the years. Wang Ji too hated that thought so he agreed to Wei Ying's wish and decided to keep his beloved's ashes close to him.
It was quiet, only the crackling of the fire could be heard. Wang Ji stared into the fire, not able to take his eyes off his beloved, scared he might forget how Wei Ying looked like if he did.
"It's not a pleasant feeling to lose someone you love, isn't it?"
Wang Ji didn't turn around. He wasn't even surprised about his visit. He never imagined seeing him again, actually, he wouldn't mind if he would have never met him again.
"You took him away from me, making me lose the person I love the most. Now you are fated to feel the same. How does it feel, Wang Ji?" The voice sounded like he was in pain but in Wang Ji's opinion, the pain in his brother's voice was nothing against the pain Wang Ji felt right now.
"I didn't take him away from you. You pushed him away with your behavior. You hurt him in more than one way, brother." Wang Ji answered without turning to him.
"I never wanted to hurt him! I knew I did him wrong and I was ready to make up for it in any way possible!"
"Any way possible? Then why didn't you just let him be? He wanted you to stay away from him, yet you never did that." Wang Ji took a deep breath. "Moreover, there is a misunderstanding, brother. Not I took him away from you, you took him from me. I was supposed to meet him in the southern region. I was supposed to go there. Mother knew that. She told me and made me promise to choose the southern region. Yet you went there."
"Are you giving me fault for protecting you? Wang Ji, the southern region was dangerous back then! Even I almost lost my life if not for Wei Ying. I wanted to protect you because I love you!"
"If I would have gone there, I would have almost lost my life and would have been saved by him. That was how it was supposed to be after all." Wang Ji said and finally turned around to face his brother whom he didn't see in years. "Brother, why does your love always hurt other people? Why does your love interrupt the flow of fate, interrupt my fate?"
"Lan Wang Ji!" Lan Huan couldn't believe what his little brother just said. The little brother he loved and cared for and always wanted to protect...
"You love Wei Ying, yet you always hurt him. You love me, yet you went between him and me, taking him away from me before I even knew were fated to be. Brother, being loved by you is a curse rather than a blessing."
"Wang Ji, how could you-"
"I always had to step back if you wanted something. If I even thought the same as you, everyone got suspicious of me. I had to hold back my wishes and desires and had to let you go first. You were the beloved crown prince while I was seen as a possible danger to your succession to the throne. I never wanted to take over the throne, I never coveted something you liked. Never! It was always you who took something I wanted. I never said anything to that. I didn't mind letting you have it if that made you and everyone else happy."
Lan Huan looked at his little brother in shock while listening to his rant.
"Then I met Wei Ying. I fell in love with him at first sight. I ... I loved him so much and with every meet-up, I fell even harder for him. I wanted to be with him, brother. He was supposed to be mine from the beginning. Yet I had to step back and for the first time, stepping back and letting you go first was more painful than anything else before. But there was nothing I could do. And seeing Wei Ying happy was making me happy. Only because he loved you and was happy with you, did I not interfere."
Wang Ji took another deep breath, trying to suppress any sob.
"But he became unhappier with each day that passed. I couldn't do anything but be there for him. Because you were always busy, I spent time with him. We had so much fun.... He started to have feelings for me without him or me knowing. He always, every day, came back to my palace to spend time with me. I thought that was the closest I would ever be with him and that alone was already enough for me. At least that was what I thought before you cheated on him and broke his heart. I hated you for that! I hated you for hurting Wei Ying! But then again, this was what made me finally have a chance to be with him. Call me selfish or whatever, I don't care."
"Since when-!?"
"Your wedding day with Wen Qing. You can call it Wei Ying's and my wedding night as well. That was when we finally decided to stop caring for others and only for each other. We were so happy but ... you were always close by. Every time he saw you he was upset. Not because of your cheating but because you wouldn't let him be!"
Wang Ji glared at his older brother. "It was only a few days since I was gone and you took that time to hurt Wei Ying as never before. You forced yourself on him, not caring if he wanted it or not! No, you knew he didn't want to and that is why you chose to do it while he was sleeping, didn't you!? He thought you were me, brother. He was dreaming of me because he was missing me ... but you!!"
Lan Huan stepped back in shock. Not by the words of his little brother or the fact that all he said was the truth but by hearing the pain and the anger, the hate in his voice.
"Wang Ji, you had no right to kidnap him! He is my-"
"I didn't!" Wang Ji hissed. "I would never do something he hates. That is something you would do but not I!"
"Wang Ji, he is my consort! You know I loved him and yet-"
"But he stopped loving you long ago! He loved me! I loved him! We belong to each other!" Wang Ji almost screamed.
Wen Ning, who stood quite far away wanted to support Wang Ji but he knew he shouldn't approach the two brothers now.
"We wanted to leave together. I found a house, our house. I showed it to him he couldn't wait to leave the immortal realm and live here with me.... But once again you interfered! Because you never know when to stop, because of your obsession Wei Ying and I had to wait until after his birthday banquet. We were ready to leave but before we could we found out that you forced a child onto him! You!! You forced yourself on him and even dared to impregnate him!"
"Where is my daughter, Wang Ji?"
"You have no daughter, brother. You do not deserve to have a child with Wei Ying anyway. That night you left because the child's gender was not what you hoped it would be. You left and even killed people in the process. How could you leave Wei Ying there!? Alone and in pain... If you really loved him you wouldn't have done that! HE ALMOST DIED!!"
"What happened to my daughter...?" Lan Huan whispered.
"You shouldn't have left like that, brother. It's all your fault."
Lan Huan fell to the ground, kneeling in front of the burning deathbed of Wei Ying. The crown prince looked at the fire and started to cry. "It's all my fault, Wei Ying. It's all my fault. I killed our daughter...."
Wang Ji didn't correct him. Yanli was his daughter and Wanyin his son. Lan Huan didn't know about the existence of Wanyin and Wang Ji wouldn't ever reveal that to him. The twins were his children. Lan Huan had no rights.
"Wei Ying.... it's all my fault... I made you leave.... I hurt you so much.... I am sorry, Wei Ying. Please..... forgive me...." Lan Huan sobbed as he stared into the fire. "I will make up for it. I promise to find you and make up for it."
Wang Ji was about to yell at his brother for he dared to declare something like this. "You have no right to wait for him."
"He is my consort!" Lan Huan yelled at his little brother.
"Wei Ying is my life!" Wang Ji yelled back. "The only reason he never divorced you is because of your daughters. That was the only reason, brother. You and Wei Ying were over the minute you cheated on him. He is mine now, brother."
Lan Huan slowly got up and approached the fire, ignoring the heat that burned his skin. "You will be reborn. You surely will. There is no reason an angel like you won't be reborn. And I will wait for you, Wei Ying. You never forgave me for what I did and that is right. I did so many painful things to you... I even shoo you into my brother's arms.... I did that. It's my fault that you had to look for someone else who you could love and receive love. I am sorry, Wei Ying."
Wang Ji glared at the back of his brother, hearing every word he whispered into the fire. Tears were flowing down Wang Ji's cheeks. Hearing those words made him cry and he didn't know why. It's as if these tears weren't his. He felt stuffy in his chest and felt like screaming.
"I will forgive you, Wei Ying. For running away with Wang Ji, I will forgive you. It's my fault after all. Did you love him? Or was he just someone you projected your feelings on because you couldn't forgive me? Whatever it is, I will forgive you. I will punish myself every day for hurting you as I did. I will only stop once you return and forgive me. I promise to wait for you, Wei Ying."
Lan Huan wanted to go even closer but that would have burned him. There was nothing left of Wei Ying's body and Lan Huan hated himself for being late.
He tried to find Wei Ying ever since he left the immortal realm but no matter what, he couldn't find him. He sent out many people to look for him in the immortal as well as in the mortal realm, but to no avail. Lan Huan even asked the seers but they didn't help. Lan Huan couldn't blame them for did he accidentally kill one of them.
He didn't do that on purpose. He just felt so helpless at that moment. He hoped for a boy, no, they told him it would be a boy, yet his child turned out to be a girl. He lost it for a moment and left for Wen Qing's bedroom where she was still in the middle of giving birth. Only about three hours later did she finally bear him a son and after taking a look he went back to Wei Ying's palace, expecting him to be there with their daughter, but he was gone. Wei Ying was gone, their daughter was gone, and Wen Ning was gone too. Only the Xingchen lay on the floor, dead. Lan Huan knew right away that he caused that. The seers and especially the goddesses were angry and Lan Huan was sure that losing Wei Ying was their punishment for killing a seer.
Then he looked for his brother only to find him gone too, leaving behind all his precious bunnies. Lan Huan was smart and knew that he left with Wei Ying. He tried his best to find them but was never able to find them. He used spiritual energy to locate them but never succeeded. Until today.
He used spiritual energy and happened to find Wei Ying. But it was too late. His dead body was already burning. But Lan Huan believed that Wei Ying would surely return to this world and he too believed that once Wei Ying did, Lan Huan would know.
Lan Huan stepped back and looked at his little brother. "If Wei Ying truly loved you or not, I don't know. But he was a good person, he opens his heart to everyone... he might have loved you, or he might have not.... Anyway, kidnapping or hurting the crown prince's consort is punished with death! But I won't kill you for two reasons. First, if Wei Ying should have loved you, he would hate me if I would kill you. Therefore I won't. Secondly, I want you to live and feel the pain of losing someone you love. Living on without the love of your life will be the most painful punishment one can get. I know what I am talking about. I went through that myself."
Wang Ji didn't care what his brother said.
"And do make you pay for your sins greatly and to give you a fair punishment I hereby cast you out of the immortal realm. You are not to return."
"There is nothing that would want me to come back anyway. Living in the immortal realm surrounded by people like father and you... I won't do that. The mortal realm suits me better than the immortal realm will ever. All I need is in the mortal realm."
"So you won't even apologize until the end?"
"There is nothing to apologize for. I didn't do anything wrong. I only saved my love and my family as well as myself." Wang Ji answered and met Lan Huan's gaze until the latter shook his head. Then he vanished and returned to the immortal realm, leaving behind Wang Ji who turned to the fire to observe it.
"Your Highness...?" Wen Ning's voice sounded.
"Where are the twins?"
"They went to the temple to pray for His Highness, prince Wei Ying." He answered. "Don't worry, they didn't see nor meet the crown prince."
"I don't mind them seeing or meeting them. I just don't want my brother to meet them. I don't want them to find out about Yanli still being alive and I definitely don't want him to ever find out about Wanyin's existence."
"I doubt he will come back, Your Highness." Wen Ning said and stayed behind Wang Ji who didn't react to that and kept watching the fire. Once the fire extinguish he would make sure to collect his beloved's ashes. Wang Ji didn't even suppress the tears from flowing down his cheeks.
"I am sorry for your loss, Your Highness." Wang Ji heard a familiar female voice and turned around to face the leader of the seers, Baoshan Sanren. He didn't see her in many years and yet she didn't change. How could she for was she an immortal like him?
"Your Holiness..." Wang Ji greeted her and tried his best to stay calm but in the end, he lost it. He threw himself on the ground and bowed to her. "Please bring him back to me. I will do everything!"
"You know I can't do that."
"I beg you, Your Holiness. I will do everything you want me to. Everything! Just bring him back. I can't live without him!"
"I am sorry, Your Highness. I can't bring him back. You know I can't. No one can."
Wang Ji stayed on the ground and sobbed.
"Fate is sometimes a cruel thing. And sometimes it's quite amusing." Baoshan Sanren smiled. Wang Ji slowly stood up, feeling miserable. Yes, he knew the seer couldn't bring back his beloved, but he still hoped. Hope was a scary thing.
"Wang Ji, you were fated to meet Wei Ying many, many years ago. Your brother's love for you however stopped you from being with him sooner. It's unfortunate but in the end, love can change a lot."
"I knew it... I was supposed to go to the southern region... mother told me.... yet my brother took my only chance to meet him sooner. Because of him, I lost many years..."
"You didn't lose them. Wei Ying was still with you ever since he came to the immortal realm. You loved him ever since you met him. It's just that you were not able to show your love to him sooner but that doesn't mean you lost the years."
"..." Wang Ji couldn't say anything to that.
"You, my dear son, are fated to be with Wei Ying. And Wei Ying too is fated to be with you. But there is one thing that was not fated. One thing that was never supposed to happen."
"My brother..."
"No, not prince Lan Huan." She answered and smiled at Wang Ji when he looked up. "That one thing that was never supposed to happen was the birth of Wei Ying."
Wang Ji frowned, making the seer giggle.
"Wei Ying is fated to be with you, you are fated to be with him, yet Wei Ying was never supposed to be born. Amusing, isn't it? How can something like this exist, you may ask... well, even the goddesses were quite surprised."
"What do you mean? What-?"
"Wei Ying was never supposed to exist, yet he had his own fate. Isn't that contradicting?"
Wang Ji was confused but he didn't follow up with the seer. What meaning had all this when he lost Wei Ying? "My love is dead and even fate can't bring him back. So why should I care about anything?"
"You are wrong again, my son." Seeing Wang Ji looking lost like a puppy, the seer pitied him and decided to go a little against the rules. "You know that once someone dies, fate will rewrite itself, don't you?"
Wang Ji didn't react but looked at the fire.
"You are not dead yet, my son. Your fate didn't change yet. Your fate is still Wei Ying."
"My fate left me..." Wang Ji mumbled.
"He did... for now..."
Wang Ji looked up at the seer with wide eyes. Carefully he eyed her, not sure what he just heard and how he should interpret the seer's words.
"I already said once that Wei Ying is far more special than everyone thinks. And not only because he was able to get pregnant or because he was not supposed to be born. His fate didn't change when he died. It didn't rewrite itself but stayed the same. The goddesses are quite fond of him too."
"His fate...."
"Wei Ying died and left the world, but he will come back someday. His love for you is so strong that he fought against the rewriting of his fate. The goddesses decided to give him another chance and put him into the Lake of Rebirth."
"Wei Ying... my love... he will come back?" Wang Ji's eyes widened and became even bigger.
"He will be reborn. I don't know when, I don't know where, and I don't know who. But the two of you are connected. You, my son, will know the moment he is getting reborn. You will be able to find him. So make sure to take care of that necklace. Wei Ying will need it. Treasure it."
"Is that true!?" Wang Ji asked, feeling like he will explode with all the hope he felt.
"I said what I said, despite knowing I was not supposed to. But what can I do? I am quite fond of Wei Ying too. Until we meet again, my son. I need to leave now and accept my punishment."
Just like that, without answering any of Wang Ji's questions, Baoshan Sanren left. Wang Ji reached out for the fire and only at the last moment was pulled back by Wen Ning.
"You are coming back to me, isn't that right, my love? You will come back...." Wang Ji turned to Wen Ning. "You heard that too, didn't you? Wei Ying will come back to me."
Wen Ning smiled and felt hope filling his chest. "I heard it. If her Holiness said he would come back, then he surely will. All we have to do is wait..."
"Wei Ying....." Wang Ji held the necklace to his chest. "I will treasure it until you return. I will wait for you and give it back to you. I will wait for you, my love. Now and forever."
T H E E N D
I know that this is not what all of you wanted but it was predictable considering the fact that Wei Ying was mortal. But don't worry too much. You heard Baoshan Sanren. Wei Ying will definitely be reborn <3 <3 <3
