Chapter Twenty Five - Let's Get Down to Businuess

For your information, I was not "fine" riding in the helicopter. I spent the whole ride clinging the edges of my seat so tightly my knuckles turned white with the strain.  My teeth gritted together as I forced myself to remain calm. I didn't dare glance out the window.

And Damian decided to spend the whole ride laughing at me. He watched, amused, as he sat across from me with his arms crossed. He didn't even bother leaving his seatbelt on the whole time; it was only on when we took off and landed.

My mother, on the other hand, completely ignored me. Which was fine with me. If she'd tried to be nice and pretend she loved me that would have hurt more then her silence.

The only other person in the helicopter was the pilot, who kept a black mask on. I did feel his eyes on me, but I decided he wasn't a threat to me. He had to be barely a hundred and twenty pounds, maybe less. He would be easy to take down if necessary.

So we flew in silence, except for my few shrieks when the helicopter hit a patch of turbulence. We landed two hours later, and I estimated we had to been in upper Maine or even Canada.

A few moments later, four armed guards escorted us into the underground facility. A laptop was shoved into Damian's hands but he tossed it to me without a glance. I held it tightly to my chest as we strode along the corridor, my short legs moving as fast as they could without full on running.

We charged into the command room with the huge screens and dozens of rows of desks sprawled out in a semicircle. Damian gestured to me while snapping his fingers at his workers. They sprung into action and soon every computer was on and every person tapped frantically away at the computers.

I opened my laptop and accessed the camera feeds. There was nothing new so far, but that just meant our people needed to crack the firewall again.

"Ok everyone," Damian shouted, clapping his hands together to gain the workers attention. "We have two agents out in the field. They're currently under code red, we have no contact or visual. This is out top priority, people. All eyes on them. Dravik, call all other agents back it. I don't want to be worrying about them. Padupulos, I need your skills cracking this. Meyver, I want you in the sky. Take one of the 'copters and begin where our agents were dropped off. Make slow circles. Rak and Berbin, you're her support. Arnolds, Anderson, and Jinks, you're on kid duty. Explain to our younger agents what's going on. Everyone needs to be prepared for Code Turtle and Code Panther. Got that? Get the kids ready to go. Eris, c'mon."

Damian tapped my shoulder and quickly guided me to a secluded corner. He grabbed two chairs and pushed me in one before dropping into the other.

"This is exhausting," he yawned. "Why do you cause so much trouble? You're the size of a button and yet you make chaos wherever you go. It's adorable," he teased. I glared at him with my arms crossed over my chest.

"Damian," I warned.

"Ok, ok. Listen, you're actually the only one who really knows our enemy. Get on the feeds. Watch. Listen. Anything you see or hear that's different, let me know. I care about these two guys just as much as you do and I want them home now. Help me do that."

"I will," I promised. He smiled and mussed my hair.

"That's my girl."
