Chapter Nineteen - The Institute

Figures burst from the darkness and surrounded us. Guns were pointed at our heads, and commands to get on our knees came from the leader.

We complied and stared at the ground as they searched us for weapons. A few moments later chains were added to our arms. The handcuffs bit into my skin but I only smiled to myself. The Institute would pay.

"Eris?" A voice above me hissed. I snapped my head up and stared at Gabe.

"What are you doing here?" I gasped.

"I'm on border patrol until they decide what to do with me. Never mind about that! What are you doing here? Where'd you come from? Who are these people?" he demanded.

"We need to talk, but not now. These are friends I made while escaping. I thought they could be of some use to us," I lied. I glanced down at Melanie and Peter. They were staring at the ground in obvious defeat. My stomach flipped a bit as I watched them.

They both were sacrificing so much for this mission, for me. They put their lives in my hands and trusted me completely. I could kill them, torture them, destroy them, and they wouldn't be able to do a thing. It was a good thing I was on their side.

My gaze snapped back to Gabe and I glared at him.

"Well, what are we waiting for? We need to get back to base. I need to talk to Commander Alison. No, I just need to talk to Head Commander. They need to know what's out there."

"Slow down, Sweetheart. First, I'm going to get you back home and give you a meal. Then we'll talk, ok? You look half-starved kid! What have you been eating?"

"It's a long story, Gabe," I sighed.

"Then I can't wait to hear it."

Yeah I'm sorry. This past month has been sooo busy for me. Well, at least I finally got an update out.  The next one should be coming sometime in the next two weeks. Thanks for reading :)
