Chapter 15 - Psychics' Road Trip.

Detective Berg was concerned when Mairead began speaking to Myrddin, but he needn't have worried.

She's a smart one, just gave him enough information.

Mairead explained to Myrddin that she had psychic flashes and that she had seen him finding Summer's body. She did not mention The Children of Azazael, and did not reveal the horror that she expected him to find, only saying, "It will be extremely traumatic to find a body and I know that it's a lot to ask of you, but will you help us?"

Myrddin frowned. He had suspected Con, and thought that he knew something about Summer's disappearance; but then Con had said that he expected her to be around for a while longer. So, he had assumed that she was still alive, and maybe not wanting to be found. He wasn't sure why, but he shared this information with Detective Berg, using the exact terminology that Con had used, about her being delicious.

He was still handcuffed to the fence. Mairead was now standing behind him, and Myrddin did not see her put her hand over her mouth as if to stop herself from vomiting. Detective Berg shook his head at her. They had no proof of Con's involvement in Summer's death, but he would certainly speak with him again. He turned back to Myrddin.

"Will you help us? I know this is unorthodox but we're looking at every possible lead right now."

"This isn't just a missing person's case, is it?" Myrddin asked. "What's going on?"

"Information is released on a need to know basis. All you need to know is that we believe Ms Jones has been murdered. Will you help us search for the body?"

"On one condition."

"Which is?"

"Rosemonde does not help with the search in any way. Please, she's been through enough. I don't want her involved at all."

"Agreed," Detective Berg said. "We will meet you both here at sunrise, tomorrow morning."

"Both?"

"Oh yes, I'm coming too," Mairead said. "And another psychic by the name of Theodora. You might as well spend the night. My son texted me a moment ago to say that Rosemonde will be staying in the hospital overnight for observation. I don't want you seeing her before we do this, in case she asks too many questions."

"I should be with her!" Myrddin said, his anger rising again. "I would never say anything that-"

"No! She already knows what I was going to ask of you, but she does not need to know that it's happening tomorrow. She's in a very fragile state."

Myrddin sighed. He knew he would not dissuade her. "Does anyone ever say no to you Ms Wilson?"

"I don't recall it ever happening," Mairead answered, quite seriously.

"In that case, could you please ask our good detective here to remove these damn cuffs?"

At 5.30 am, Christian Berg and his partner Andrea Craig were at the Wilson residence with Theodora Rossi. The psychic was not what Mairead expected. With her waist-length burgundy dreadlocks and bohemian clothing, she was surprised initially, that the detectives would take her seriously. Yet she knew that Theodora had been working unofficially with the police for almost a decade, and soon after speaking with her, she could see why.

This softly spoken woman commanded authority. There was something about her very presence that made one feel calm and reassured, and this led to respect. Mairead could not help but like her. It was not long before they were conversing like old friends about the pros and cons of having psychic abilities.

Myrddin remained silent throughout much of the drive. Theodora made him uncomfortable, particularly after her first words to him were, "You really need to make a decision soon. There will be consequences either way, as I'm sure you know. Choose well."

Choose well? Does she know that I'm dancing with the devil? He tried to concentrate on what Detective Craig was saying to them.

"The family of Summer Jones has chosen to stay in the area where we found her car and phone. They have been helping us search the area along with several volunteers, but so far we have nothing new. That's where you all come in. Detective Berg believes that you may provide us with a-a fresh perspective.

"Theodora, Ms Wilson, if either of you senses anything, or if Myrddin finds anything, I would ask that you approach one of us first. Please do not say anything to Summer's family."

They had been driving for some time before Myrddin realised that they were on the same road that Con had driven when he had taken him to meet Azazael. He began to sweat.

Theodora had said, he needed to decide soon, but no...this can't be. Surely, they couldn't find the hidden temple.

"You alright love?" Theodora patted his knee. He found the gesture condescending. She looked around the same age as him. Must she speak to him as if he were a child?

"Fine thank you!" he said through gritted teeth. "Just a little car sick."

"Not surprising." The look she gave him was penetrating.

She knows! I don't know how she knows...but she does. She knows I've been out here... What else does she know?

Myrddin closed his eyes. When he opened them again, Theodora was still staring at him. He jumped. She smiled and turned away from him to look out of the window.

"The big sandstone homestead," she said suddenly.

"What homestead?" Detective Craig asked.

"We'll cross a small wooden bridge shortly and then there is a really sharp bend in the road before we come to a T intersection. You will want to turn right, but if you turn left, you'll see the homestead. That's where you'll find the woman that you are looking for, not in the house itself, but on the grounds."

At least she's not directing them to the temple.

"Are you sure Theodora?" Detective Berg was driving but he turned his head to look at her.

"Yes, but I sense she is somehow below the ground. I don't mean buried, no." She forestalled Detective Craig's next question. "It's like an underground chamber, and it seems to go on forever. I think it links up to the area where you found her car."

Shit! Is she really seeing that? If it's really that big, there could be anything down there.

Myrddin felt nauseous. Theodora looked at him again and shrugged as if to say you tell me. Mairead noticed the looks that passed between them but didn't say anything. She didn't have any insight into Myrddin, other than the brief flash where she saw him finding Summer's body. Instinctively, she felt that he would not harm Rosemonde, and that was her primary concern.

They soon came to the intersection that Theodora had referred to, and Detective Berg turned left as suggested. The homestead was directly ahead of them.

"We can't poke around on private property without a warrant." Detective Berg sighed. "And by the time we get one they could move her."

"Twilight," Mairead said, unexpectedly.

"Excuse me?" Detective Craig asked.

Mairead continued, "I'm not sure why but I sense that they avoid the sun. The rituals that are performed, begin at twilight and end before the dawn. It is well after dawn now. The place will be empty for several hours."

"Who do you mean by 'they'?" Myrddin asked.

Detective Berg cleared his throat loudly before answering Myrddin succinctly, "The person or persons who murdered Summer Jones."
