12: The Hillside High Huskies

Online school is stressing me out so hardcore. I'm supposed to be doing Science and Careers work right now, but instead I'm writing, and watching Tik Toks.

"Come on, please just tell us." Keenan begged.

"Are you ever gonna give up?" I laughed, shaking my head.

"Oh, come on. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase?" He whined, sticking out his bottom lip like a small child.

"Would you just accept that you're never gonna crack her." Dean sigh.

"Aww come on Bailey. Just tell us already." Evan pipped up.

I was currently FaceTiming Keenan, Dean, Evan and Smith, and they wouldn't stop bugging me to tell them what school I was going to today.

"Why do you wanna know so badly?" I asked.

"Because you won't tell us." Smith explained.

"That doesn't even make sense." I furrowed my brows.

"Yes it does." Dean countered.

"Are you questioning his perfectly logical explanation?" Keenan voice was coated in fake shock.

"Wow. That's kinda rude Bailey." Evan snorted.

Jeez. These guys, I swear.

"I'll tell you what state I'm going to." I said.

"There's only one state left, we know you're going to Ohio."

"Just tell me why you really want to know, then I'll tell you." I bargained, flopping down on my bed.

"We want to try and catch The Jersey Girl" Keenan stated.

My eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

"Why?" Was all that I could say.

"Cause this is our last chance to catch her and get all our jerseys back." Evan elaborated.

"Now tell us what school it is." Smith instructed.

"Hillside High." I replied, swallowing the lump in my throat.

"So, when's practice?" Dean asked, but I pretended not to hear.

"Bailey!" My dad's voice called out for me.

"My dad's yelling at me. I gotta go." I told them, hanging up our call.

I got up off my bed and headed down to the basement where my father was.

"Yes?" I poked my head around the corner of the stairway.

"Practice time was changed, I need you to head to Hillside now." He explained.

"Okay." I nodded, hugging him goodbye and going upstairs.

I said bye to my mother and brother as well, before grabbing my bag and hoodie and getting in my Jeep.

An 8 hour car ride. I'm so excited.

Throughout the ride I tried desperately to come up with a way to not get caught. I'd had too many close calls before. And now all the quarterbacks knew where I was going.

But that's when the idea hit me. Like a ton of bricks. I kept my eyes open, searching for the nearest Party City.

Eventually I saw one, nestled in a shopping strip. Stuck in between a Children's Place and an empty store.

Pulling in to the parking lot I quickly entered the store and headed straight for the mask isle. I yanked a white mask off the rack and set it down on the checkout counter. The male cashier gave me and odd look, but still scanned the item. I payed and left, continuing on my way to my unknown future.

Once I had finally arrived at the Hillside High, I knew I was in trouble. Dean's truck was parked in the corner of the parking lot. Deciding it wasn't a good idea to park at the school, so I drove about three blocks away at a community center.

Putting on my sweater, I shoved the mask in my bag and locked my jeep.

God I hope I don't get caught. This is the last school, I'm so close to victory, I can't lose now. I was determined. There was absolutely no way some football players were going to outsmart me.

When I was just around the corner from the school I put on the mask, and pulled up the hood.

I spotted the door to the locker room, but there was a slight problem. The door was being guarded by a group of familiar faces.

Keenan, Evan, Jaiden, Dean, Owen, Everett and Ryan were positioned at all the different entrances.

"Challenge accepted." I muttered, trying to figure out my best course of action.

I should probably put the letter somewhere where Wyatt Jacobs will find it.  Can't give it to him now or everyone would know that I'm the Jersey Girl.

I wish I knew what car he drove, then I could just stick it on the windshield. But I do know what car Dean drives. I could put it on his windshield, and he could give it to Wyatt.

But Dean's truck was in clear view of where all the guys stood. And I didn't want to get caught.

Maybe I could put it on one of the other guy's car?

In the far right corner of the parking lot was a white Jeep Wrangler, with a Pennsylvania license plate. Keenan's Jeep.

I crept over to it, ducking behind other vehicles, trying my best not to get spotted.

Once I reached the side of the car, I grabbed on to the handle of the door, using it to pull myself up. But the door popped open.

I waited, frozen in silence for the alarm to start blaring. But it never did.

I guess Keenan just forgot to lock his doors. I was about to close it when I spotted a half full plastic water bottle on the ground.

I picked it up and tucked it under my arm. Then I checked to make sure his keys weren't in the Jeep as well, before locking it. I tucked the letter under his windshield wiper, and walked away.

I hid behind a tree, close to the door of the locker room. I chucked the water bottle as hard as I could, and waited for it to hit the ground.

"What the hell was that?" Everett asked, slightly panicked.

" I dunno." Dean replied as all the guys ran towards the water bottle.

I took my chance and bolted for the door. I couldn't immediately spot any jerseys, although I wasn't expecting to.

"I SAW THE DOOR CLOSE." Evan yelled, and I freaked out.

There was nowhere to hide in here. So I took my chance and ran out in to the hallway of the school. All the light were off, giving me the opportunity to run, and the guys wouldn't know where I went.

I sprinted to the right in to the main foyer of the school, then I ducked in to the library and crouched down behind a bookshelf. My heat pounded so loud, I'm sure you could hear it echo through the room.

The doors opened, and I froze. Loud footsteps pounded on the ground as he searched the room. He was approaching me, and I knew, I'd have to make a run for it.

I jumped up and bolted to the exit, and pushed the door open with all my force.

Sprinting down the hallway, the footsteps slowly gained on me.

"OVER HERE!" Evan's loud voice echoed through the empty hallways.

Great, now they all know where I am. Would it kill him to shut it every once in a while?

The end of the hall way rapidly approaching, and I had nowhere to go. So I ran faster.

Right before I ran in to the wall, I skidded to a stop and ducked under Evan's outstretched arm, running back down the hall. Evan smashed in to the wall, groaning as he fell to the ground.

I cringed at the sound of the impact. Maybe if he hadn't chased me, he wouldn't have run in to a wall.

I pushed open the doors to the cafeteria and ran to the back, where I squatted down behind a table.

As I was trying to catch my breath, two large hands grabbed on to me. I let out a terrified shriek, as the person pulled me up.

The lights turned on, and I was turned around.

Ryan stood by the light switch and Keenan, held my arms at my sides. In front of me was Dean.

"Did you Get her?" Evan panted, walking into the room.

"Ryan, go get the others." Dean instructed.

I tried my best to wiggle from Keenan's hold on me, but that only caused his grip to tighten.

"Stop moving." He grumbled, annoyance laced in his words.

I twisted my wrist around quickly, and held his.

"Ow!" He cried, quickly jumping back. I took my chance and ran, but Evan guarded the door.

He had his arms start out, covering the entire door. I ducked under his arm again and pushed open the door.

I ran to the dressing room, and began shoving all the jerseys into my bag.

Gotta make this quick Bailey, I thought.

I grabbed the last jersey, shoving it in my bag and zipping it up.

I ran out the door and sprinted down the street to safety. Once I got in to my Jeep, and took a minute to catch my breath.

"Wow. I'm so glad that was the last one." I muttered, taking off the stupid mask. "I'll see them all tomorrow."

Junior Bowl, here we come.

I don't know why I had such terrible writer's block with this chapter, but I did. So that's why it's a little short. But I still hope it was enjoyable. And the next chapter will be nice and long, I'm excited to write it.
