The Past Hurts

Cal sighed as he cut the shirt from Nikki's torso and peeled it off as he winced at the blood. He wiped the area and sighed as he saw the newest burn marks from Darth Vader's lightsaber one week ago, right where the blaster hole was. He quickly stitched it wrapped the area tightly, and looked around for an extra shirt. He grumbled as he didn't see one, so he grabbed her lightsabers and wrapped them in rags before putting them inside his satchel. He grabbed his lightsabers and left the room and was not surprised when he saw the medic and Captain waiting outside,

"Do you have an extra shirt?"

Kix frowned and nodded,

"Yes, is the one she came in not suitable?"

Cal shook his head,

"I had to cut it off to get to her wound."

Kix frowned,

"How bad is it?"

Cal shrugged,

"Not as bad as she's had before. Just a few stitches."

Kix frowned,

"Did you-"

"Yes. I know how to take care of her."

Rex sighed,

"I'll get her an extra shirt. General Skywalker is on his way to talk to you,"

Cal nodded,

"Okay,"

When Rex left, Cal handed Kix his satchel,

"Inside this are Sora's lightsabers. Do not look at them. Can I trust you?"

Kix glanced at the bag and nodded,

"Yes, sir. Why are you giving them to me?"

Cal sighed,

"If worse comes to worse, I can not touch them,"

Kix frowned,

"What do you mean?"

Cal raised his hands and showed that he no longer had his gloves on,

"I have a force ability that makes it hard for me to touch objects without the gloves Sora made for me. They got destroyed in the fight. I can't touch Sora's lightsabers without them affecting me in a bad way. Until she wakes up, I want you to hold onto them for me. Think of it as a test to see how loyal you truly are,"

Kix frowned but immediately saluted to him,

"I won't let you down, Commander Axel,"

Cal winced and shook his head,

"Remember, I have no rank. I am not a part of the Jedi Order,"

Kix immediately frowned at the new information,

"How are you so skilled in the force?"

Cal smirked and nodded toward the door,

"You should see Sora using her full abilities. I'll explain our story when Master Skywalker comes,"

Kix nodded,

"Alright, how did you know General Skywalker?"

"I know him by name. Overheard smugglers and pirates talking about him,"

Kix smirked,

"He does tend to get a reputation,"

Cal nodded,

"That's very true,"

Rex came back with a black shirt and handed it over to Cal. Cal carefully took it from his hands and walked back inside the room. Rex glanced at Kix and noticed the new satchel around him,

"Did Commander Axel give that to you?"

Kix smirked proudly,

"Yep! And he has no rank, he's apparently not in the Jedi Order,"

Rex frowned in confusion,

"Really?"

Kix nodded,

"Yep, and the woman with him is Sora, that's her name,"

Rex frowned,

"That name sounds familiar,"

Kix shrugged,

"I thought it did too...but I'm not sure why,"

Abruptly, Cal burst through the door and collided with the wall beside Kix, groaning softly,

"Axel!"

Cal grumbled and stood up after glaring at Rex and Kix, who tried helping him,

"I'm fine. Sora woke up,"

Kix frowned,

"Then-"

"Don't worry about it. Give me another minute,"

He walked back into the room, and when he walked in, he saw Nikki curled up into a ball. He sighed,

"Nikki,"

Nikki looked at him with wide eyes,

"I-It's true! All that really happened!"

Cal sighed and nodded,

"Yeah, it did,"

Sora rubbed her eyes and groaned,

"How the fuck did we get here?"

Cal shrugged,

"We can figure that out later. I told them my name is Axel, and your name is Sora...I told Kix that we are not in the Jedi Order,"

"Atollon,"

"Hm?"

Nikki looked at him,

"We grew up on Atollon. It's pretty much a wasteland before the rebellion started to put up a base there...we can say we were abandoned-"

"That won't work,"

"Why not?"

Cal rolled his eyes and gently put his hand near her leg on the bed,

"Nikki, I'm clearly older than you. How about this: I was abandoned at three on Atollon. I learned to fend for myself and discovered my Force sensitivity. Then, I found you abandoned in a crashed ship. I took care of you, and together we survived in the wilderness, training with our lightsabers after finding our kyber crystals in a cave. I don't know if they know about Bendu, but we have to make sure they never do. At least until the rebels discover him."

Nikki slowly nodded,

"Then smugglers were flying over and tried to attack us, and we took their ship and crashed here!"

Cal smirked and nodded,

"Exactly,"

Nikki frowned,

"Hey, where are my lightsabers?"

Cal winced and scratched the back of his neck,

"Oh...I gave them to Kix,"

"KIX?!"

Cal winced and nodded,

"Yes, Kix. He's the one we can trust, is he not? He is on our side in the future,"

Nikki glared at him,

"But we don't know what will change with us being here. Why did you give him my lightsabers?"

Cal revealed his bare hands. Nikki frowned in realization,

"Your gloves,"

Cal nodded,

"They kinda got ruined in the battle...I'm sorry, Sora,"

Nikki shrugged,

"It's alright...let's go then,"

"Just a fair warning...Everyone is still the same. Skywalker has not fallen yet,"

Nikki looked down and nodded,

"I know. I sense him,"

Cal frowned,

"You do?"

Nikki nodded,

"I sense them all. Anakin is right outside with Kix and Rex...he's worried and is making Kix and Rex worried too."

"How?"

Nikki sighed,

"I guess the force does work in mysterious ways...The bonds that were broken...I feel them...but it's as if it's right outside of reach...which makes sense because we are from the future, and this is the past,"

Cal sighed,

"At least we know how to hide our force signature!"

Nikki glanced at him and crossed her arms,

"You mean. I know how to. You are still getting it,"

Cal rolled his eyes,

"It works well enough,"

Nikki shrugged,

"Yeah, I guess it does,"

Cal wanted nothing more than to help her up, but he knew how strong his visions could be, especially with Nikki. She stood up, wrapped an arm around her torso, and winced,

"Who knew Blaster wounds could hurt as much as getting stabbed,"

Cal glared at her,

"You better not make that joke with them,"

Nikki shrugged,

"I hold no promises,"

Cal rolled his eyes, and Nikki smirked mischievously as they exited the room. Anakin immediately walked up to them and looked at Nikki,

"Are you alright, Sora?"

Nikki shrugged,

"As good as I can after being shot,"

Anakin frowned,

"A few minutes ago, I sensed a disturbance in the Force. I was discussing it with Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he felt it, too. Earlier today, as we were heading into battle, the Force shifted. There was something powerful moving through it. Did you feel it?"

Nikki and Cal exchanged a glance before nodding slowly. Cal sighed,

"We felt it right before we crashed our ship into the tanks."

Anakin nodded,

"Alright...I need answers. Follow me to the Command Center,"

Anakin turned to Kix and Rex,

"Kix, can you check over the injured again? I heard Denal complaining about his shoulder. Rex, please follow us,"

Kix sighed, muttering under his breath,

"I swear if he makes me stun him again,"

Kix left after giving Cal his satchel back. Anakin glanced at it in confusion, and Cal handed it to Nikki. She grabbed her lightsabers from the wrap inside the bag,

"Why did Kix have your lightsabers?"

Cal winced,

"I have trouble with objects, and my gloves got destroyed in the battle,"

Anakin nodded,

"I will find you new ones,"

"Thanks,"

The two knew that Anakin figured out about the force psychometry ability as soon as Cal said that. When they got to the bridge, Nikki and Cal were both hit by the familiarity and old memories as they looked out at the posts. Anakin nodded at the two,

"Alright, I'm all ears. How were you trained outside of the Order?"

Cal crossed his arms, glancing at Nikki before meeting Anakin's gaze directly,

"I was abandoned by my family on a planet called Attollon. I was forced to fend for myself and discovered that I could use the force. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew I was good at it. Then I found Nikki when she was two. She was abandoned on a crashed ship, and I took her in. I saw she could do the same things I could, and we started training together. Then, one day, we found the crystals for our lightsabers in a cave. Mine are blue and hers are purple. We used scraps that we found to forge them and started training using books that we found in ships that crashed. We always found downed ships, but we never found anybody. Then, some smugglers found us and tried kidnapping Sora. We fought them off and stole their ship-"

"Borrowed. We borrowed their ship,"

Cal smirked and nodded,

"Yes, we borrowed their ship and stumbled upon that planet, and we felt that weird thing in the force and crashed into some of the tanks and fought,"

Anakin slowly nodded with a smirk on his face,

"Impressive for some self-taught Jedi. My men told me they saw you throw your lightsabers and catch the other's lightsaber. Where did you learn that?"

Nikki smirked,

"We got bored in training one day and wanted to try it out,"

Cal nodded,

"It worked, and then we decided to use it if we were attacked,"

Anakin nodded,

"Okay, I might just try that, maybe get Obi-Wan to do it with me,"

Rex smirked,

"I think Victory would be more up for it,"

Nikki and Cal shared a quick glance, and Anakin laughed,

"Yeah, I do think Tory would love to try it, but I think I might give Obi-Wan a heart attack if I teach her one more thing,"

Rex chuckled,

"Possibly."

Anakin turned to the two Jedi,

"We will bring you to the Jedi Temple to see what they say. You two seem trained, so they might just have some tests for you,"

Nikki nodded,

"Alright, thank you,"

Anakin smirked and nodded,

"You are welcome,"

Anakin turned to Rex,

"Captain, can you show Axel and Sora to one of the spare rooms?"

Rex nodded,

"Yes, sir,"

Then Hardcase came running in with a wide smile,

"General!"

They all turned to him, and he stopped and took off his helmet,

"Yes, Hardcase?"

"We just heard back from the Nova squad. They are going to rendevous with us at Coruscant,"

Anakin smiled as he thought of the leader of the squad,

"Good, tell Sargent Nilson to hurry up. Let's see who gets to Coruscant first,"

Hardcase smirked,

"We definitely will, Sir,"

"Well, let's make sure of that,"

Nikki felt her heart stop at the familiar name, and Cal hovered his hand over her arm,

"Master Skywalker, what is Nova Squad?"

Anakin chuckled,

"Nova Squad is a part of the 501st, but they do more undercover for future assignments. The sergeant is a friend of mine and was trained by the Clones. His name is Luiz Nilson. You won't find a better sergeant than him. Just don't underestimate him because of his age,"

Nikki glanced up at him,

"How old is he, Master?"

"He's around fourteen, I have known him for around two years,"

Nikki nodded and glanced at Cal,

"That's cool, how long before we reach Coruscant,"

"We have a few more hours,"

Cal smiled and nodded. Anakin turned to Rex,

"Rex, can you show them to the spare room so they can rest?"

Rex nodded and turned to the two,

"Follow me,"

"Thank you, Master Skywalker,"

Anakin nodded and watched as they left before shrugging off the weird, familiar feeling. The trio finally arrived at the spare room, and Rex turned to them,

"Make yourselves comfortable here. The General will let you know when we are at Coruscant."

"Thank you, Captain Rex,"

Rex nodded curtly and left them alone. Nikki paced the room, restless and worried. Cal watched her silently, knowing they had to tread carefully in this unfamiliar timeline.

"Nikki. We'll figure this out. We just need to stay focused."

She turned to him, and her eyes shone in concern,

"I know, Cal. But what if...what if we change things here? What if we make things worse?"

Cal stepped closer to her, placing his hands on her shoulders,

"We'll do our best to minimize any impact, Nikki. And we'll keep our true identities hidden until we understand more."

Nikki nodded slowly,

"Okay. We'll stay cautious."

They stood together in silence. The echoes of their future decisions reverberated in their minds, reminding them of the delicate balance they needed to maintain.
