The Illness

Nikki opened her eyes and frowned when she noticed that she was surrounded by darkness,

"Hello?"

She tried walking but she was stuck,

"Whose there?"

"There is no escaping the past, the present, and the future,"

The voice was deep. Nikki looked around,

"Who are you?!"

Light erupted around her and she was in a small room. She saw the walls covered in posters, the small matress in the middle of the room. Small boxes filled with clothing, and a small chest that she knew held medical equipment,

"My room?"

She turned as the door opened to see a much younger version of herself. The little girl ran to the mattress and covered her face as fear radiated from her. A figure walked in with a sneer on her face,

"You are useless! I told you to make me dinner! I told you to get your siblings ready and prepped for bed! Can you do anything right?!"

Nikki felt her heart drop,

"No..."

The younger girl cried,

"I'm s-sorry mamma-"

Nikki couldn't do anything as she watched the adult punch the young girl,

"You freak! I told you that I am not your mother! You will never be my child! You are lucky that your father still wants you around!"

Nikki looked away as she felt pain at the memory,

"Why are you showing me this?"

"You have known pain for your entire life. You need to go,"

Nikki shook her head,

"My friends need me!"

"Do they?"

The scenery changed to metal walls, and Nikki recognized it as one of the mess halls. She looked around and immediately spotted Fives, Rex, Cody, Echo, Hardcase, Jesse, Kix, Waxer, and Boil. She once again tried getting closer to them but found she still could not move.

"We should stop trying to look, Rex,"

Rex shook his head at Jesse,

"No, we need to keep looking for her,"

Kix sighed,

"Rex. Nikki never trusted us. Why do you want to find her?"

Cody crossed his arms,

"Because, it is the right thing to do. We have been training Nikki for the past month. She ran away believing that we hated her,"

Waxer shrugged,

"Come on, Vod-"

Nikki closed her eyes and screamed,

"STOP! THESE ARE ALL LIES!"

"Are they? Would you know if it was real or not?"

The scene abruptly changed and Nikki opened her eyes to see a familiar room,

"No."

"So much pain. So close to being who you were meant to be,"

A scream pierced the air, and Nikki's eyes darted to the source. A young woman with blonde hair was shackled to a metal chair in the center of the room. It was her. She knew exactly where she was. The door creaked open, and the Third Sister, a menacing figure in dark armor, strode in with an air of cruel authority,

"How are you liking the new room?"

The blonde growled at her,

"Go to Haran,"

The Inquisitor laughed and ignited her lightsaber,

"Oh, you innocent young Jedi. You will know pain. You will know what got us through the pain. We will make you our most powerful Inquisitor,"

Nikki, watching the scene unfold, felt her heart shatter,

"Why?"

A dark chuckle reverberated through the room, and when she opened her eyes again, she found herself face-to-face with the Inquisitor. The sinister gleam in the Third Sister's eyes made her blood run cold. The Inquisitor's hand crackled with dark energy, and Nikki braced herself.

Suddenly, a surge of electricity coursed through her body, igniting every nerve with searing pain. She screamed, the agony overwhelming her, tearing at her very soul. Her muscles convulsed uncontrollably as the Inquisitor's power ravaged her,

"Embrace it,"

The Inquisitor hissed, her voice a venomous whisper,

 "Embrace the darkness within you."

Nikki's vision blurred, tears streaming down her face as the torture continued. Each jolt of electricity felt like a fiery brand, burning away her resistance, breaking her down piece by piece. The room seemed to close in around her, the oppressive darkness suffocating.

"You will join us. You have no choice."

Nikki's screams filled the room, mingling with the haunting laughter of her tormentor. The pain, the fear, and the despair were all-consuming, dragging her deeper into the abyss. Her past self writhed in agony, her resolve crumbling under the relentless assault. The Inquisitor's cruel smile grew wider with each passing second. The Inquisitor leaned closer to her

"Do you feel it, Nikki? The power of the dark side? It is within you, waiting to be unleashed. Accept it, and you will be unstoppable."

Nikki's mind swam with conflicting emotions, the pain blurring the lines between reality and the vision. She felt the darkness clawing at her, whispering promises of power and vengeance. Her friends, her loved ones, their faces flickered in her mind, but the torment threatened to drown them out.

Then she heard a distant, familiar voice, like a beacon of light in the darkness

"Fight it, Nikki. Remember who you are. Remember what you stand for."

With a lot of effort, Nikki focused on that voice, clinging to it like a lifeline. She felt a bright signature near her and closed her eyes as she focused on the familiar aura of her best friend. The Inquisitor's power might have been overwhelming, but she had faced darkness before and emerged stronger.

Summoning every ounce of strength left within her, Nikki opened her eyes and met the Inquisitor's gaze,

"I will never join you,"

The Inquisitor's expression twisted with rage, and she increased the intensity of the electrical assault. But Nikki held on, her screams mingling with a newfound determination. She would not let the darkness consume her. She would fight, no matter the cost.

As the vision began to fade, the Inquisitor's laughter echoed one last time,

"This is not over, Nikki. You cannot escape your destiny."

Nikki collapsed to the ground as the vision ended, gasping for breath. She looked up and saw a new scene. She was looking at the scene that has haunted her for many years. The snow was covering some of the helmets just as it did when she first visited the graveyard. She looked over to see her younger self stumbling over to Jesse's helmet,

"No. No. No. No!"

She watched as the brunette collapsed in front of the helmet and she started to cry,

"I failed. I'm sorry Vods. I'm so sorry,"

She felt the presence near her again and stood up carefully. She took one step and smiled as she was no longer bound to one spot. She walked over to her younger self and hovered her hand over her shoulder,

"You will never forget the good times. You will never forget the bad times. You will find a balance,"

She heard a yell. She felt a ripple in the force and started running to the source. She ran right into an invisible wall and yelped,

"Mother fucker!"

She put her hand against it and felt the familiar presence behind it,

"Cal?"

"Nikki! Are you okay?"

Nikki shrugged,

"Sure! What are you doing here?"

"I can ask you the same question...do you see me?"

"No, can you see me?"

"No...we gotta get rid of this wall!"

Nikki nodded and glanced around at the snow-covered planet,

"I have an idea,"

"I'm open,"

Nikki shut her eyes and opened her mind slowly,

"I am one with the force and the force is with me,"

On the other side, Cal closed his eyes softly as he opened his mind to the force,

"I am one with the force and the force is with me,"

They raised their hand on instinct and touched the wall separating them,

"I am one with the force and the force is with me,"

Their voices echoed in sync,

"I am one with the force and the force is with me,"

A rumbling was heard,

"We are one with the force and the force is with us. What was once will be again. We are one with the force and the force is with us forever until death brings us into the living force,"

They felt a wave of wind hit them and when they opened their eyes, they were staring at each other. Nikki sighed in relief,

"Cal,"

Cal smiled and pulled her into a hug,

"I am so happy that you are alright...you scared the shit out of me,"

Nikki frowned,

"What happened?"

Cal tilted his head,

"You don't know?"

Nikki shrugged,

"Everything is very blurry right now...what are you doing here?"

Cal shrugged,

"I don't know...You fainted and the next thing I know...here I am,"

Nikki slowly nodded,

"Well...We need to-"

She got cut off when the scene changed. The two groaned as they fell to the ground. Cal was first up and helped her up. He looked around and frowned when he saw the dark place,

"Nikki, where are we?"

Nikki glanced around and frowned,

"I don't know,"

They walked down the hall and stopped when they heard voices,

"Are you sure it's here?"

Cal and Nikki shared a look when they recognized the voice. They walked closer and saw young Ezra looking through crates,

"Ez?"

Cal put a hand on her shoulder,

"He won't hear you,"

Nikki sighed,

"I know,"

Ezra groaned and looked to his right,

"Aunt Nikki! I need help!"

They watched as Nikki walked over to the young boy and laughed as she picked him up,

"Lil Ez, what are you looking for?"

The young boy looked up at her with a small smile,

"Mum and pops said that they needed a bowl,"

Nikki smirked and ruffled his blue hair,

"Okay, I will get the bowl and you go back to them, okay?"

Ezra nodded,

"Alright,"

Cal glanced at his best friend,

"What is all this?"

Nikki wrapped her arms around herself,

"I-I don't know,"

They watched as Miram and Ephiram came running into the room,

"Nikki!"

Nikki turned to them,

"Hey, I was just getting the b-"

Ephiram grabbed her arm and started pulling her to the exit,

"You have to run, we got word that the Empire is going to be here soon!"

Nikki's eyes widened,

"What about y-"

Miram shook her head,

"Don't worry about us, you need to get out of here!"

Cal watched as Nikki looked away from the scene. He wrapped an arm around her and sighed,

"I know it has been hard for you...I wish I was with you more,"

Nikki smiled at him sadly,

"I miss them...I wish they didn't die,"

Cal nodded,

"Ezra is still around...and after this maybe we can save his parents,"

Nikki nodded,

"Yeah...I hope so,"

They were thrown into a forest next. Nikki groaned,

"I am so sick of this,"

Cal chuckled softly,

"Me too...let's figure out how to get out of here,"

"Do you know where here is?"

Cal shrugged,

"Not really,"

They walked into the forest and they stopped when they saw a fire. They walked closer and saw the Bad Batch around it with Nikki cautiously looking them over. It was Hunter, Wrecker, and Tech only. The younger woman sighed,

"I'm sorry I tried attacking you,"

Wrecker chuckled,

"We can handle ourselves,"

Hunter nodded,

"I have a question for you, Commander Victory,"

She tilted her head,

"What is it?"

Tech cut to the chase really quick,

"How did you survive the Purge? Omega told us that you were reported Killed in action, or returned to somewhere,"

Nikki winced and Cal put his hand on her shoulder,

"I survived because of luck. I was shot off a cliff and landed in water. Then I ran..."

Hunter nodded,

"Why did you stop attacking us?"

"Because I felt no ill intention from you."

Cal glanced at Nikki,

"Really?"

Nikki sighed and nodded,

"Yeah...I ran right at them and never ignited my lightsabers. They recognized me and I felt their recognition, the shock, and slight joy."

Tech crossed his arms,

"You should not be so trusting,"

Nikki shrugged,

"I am here, am I not? I am helping you get our little sister back,"

Hunter chuckled,

"Omega is going to be so excited to meet you."

Cal smirked,

"Was she?"

Nikki nodded,

"She rambled a shit ton of questions to me,"

Then they were thrown somewhere only Nikki recognized. Cal looked around in surprise at the odd mixture of plant life and city life,

"Uh...where are we?"

Nikki's eyes wandered around,

"We are in New York,"

"Nikki, best friend, I need you to be more specific. I have never heard of a New York before,"

Nikki glanced at her,

"We are on Earth,"

Cal's eyes widened in shock as he looked around,

"Woah,"

Nikki chuckled softly,

"I know, shocker, right?"

Cal nodded,

"I have never seen anything like it,"

Nikki smirked,

"Yeah..."

She started walking until they got to an area where tombstones were laid out. Nikki froze at seeing her father's name on a stone,

"Dad,"

Cal immediately looked at her and put a hand on her shoulder,

"Nikki?"

Nikki looked at Cal with a tear in her eyes,

"M-My dad...he's dead,"

Cal frowned,

"I...I'm sorry Nikki,"

Nikki looked down at the tombstone again,

"Frederick Eric Mils...loving father and husband....1913-1976."

Cal frowned,

"What are the numbers for?"

"The year it is...The last year I remember was 1972...he died four years after I was thrown into this universe...He died when I was 16. I never felt it."

They turned when they heard footsteps and Nikki froze when she knew who it was. A blonde-haired man in a USA Army uniform and a woman and man behind him in suits with brown hair and blue eyes, it was obvious they were twins. The blonde man brought out a single daisy as the two behind him took out two more daisies,

"Hey, Frederick. It's Luiz Nilson. Just doing the yearly check-in...We haven't seen her yet...but I still won't lose hope,"

The two behind him let tears slip as the man stepped up and put down his daisy,

"Hi dad...it's Max...We got a letter from the prison that Mary was sent to...she's down there now...I just...I wanted to tell you so you could rest just a bit more knowing that the woman responsible for our pain is gone...I love you dad...and I wish we could talk just one more time,"

Luiz put a hand on his shoulder and Max stood back up and next to Luiz. Alison knelt down and set the last daisy on his grave,

"Hi...dad...it's Ally...I miss you dad...But you don't have to worry about Max and I...we got the job at the FBI...maybe we can study some interdimensional travel somehow...so we can get Nikki back to us...I know she's still out there Dad...and we will do everything we can to get her back home...I'm sorry that you had to think all of us disappeared for years...I wish you talked to us after we told you that Nikki wasn't with us."

Luiz put a hand on Alison's shoulder as she started crying,

"Come on, Al...let's go,"

Alison looked up at Luiz,

"It's not fair! After everything we went through...after everything Nikki went through...Mary outlived our father and she might...she might have outlived Nikki,"

Luiz immediately shook his head,

"No. Don't think like that Al. Nikki is still alive. She's still out there-"

"But how can you be so sure?! The last thing we knew was she was going to fight Grevious with Master Kenobi! We don't know anything!"

Max pulled her into a hug and Luiz sighed as he looked at the two,

"I know it's hard...trust me I do. I miss Nikki with everything I have...She has to be alive."

Cal snapped out of his frozen state and looked at Nikki who looked like she saw a ghost,

"Nikki?"

Nikki shook her head,

"M-My dad d-died after they g-got back...I-I could have said m-my goodbyes-"

"Luiz we lost! We have lost everything! We only have each other...and we have you. That is all we have left. After Mary went psycho on us-"

That seemed to wake something up in Nikki as she ran over to the three and took in her sibling's appearances. The two were sporting a scar on their cheek and a scar on their shoulder. Nikki took a step back in shock,

"No."

Cal ran up to her and held her arm,

"Nikki?"

"No no no no no no! I SAVED THEM! ALL I HAVE EVER DONE WAS TO PROTECT THEM! I SAVED THEM!"

Nikki was crying and Cal pulled her into a tight hug,

"You did,"

"NO! THEY GOT HURT BECAUSE I WASN'T THERE!"

"Al, Max, I'm sorry...I should have been faster-"

Max immediately put his hand on his shoulder,

"You literally got stabbed. I would say that's pretty fast,"

Cal watched as something broke inside of Nikki,

"NO!!!!!!"
