Balance is Key

Nikki sat on some crates as she watched Rex teaching Ezra how to shoot. She found it entertaining to see her godson struggling with something so small, yet so big. She hopped off the crate and walked over to him,

"Ez, it's all about focus. Don't let your frustrations cloud your mind."

Ezra sighed as he let the blaster fall to his side,

"Easier said then done, Aunt Nikki...there is just so much going on right now...it's so hard,"

Rex patted his shoulder,

"Focus and prioritize. As a soldier, you must learn-"

"Ezra!"

The three turned to see Kanan walking toward them,

"You are supposed to be meditating with me, I have been looking for you,"

Ezra sighed,

"I know I know, but I have target practice with Rex right now,"

"I told you-"

Nikki put her hand up and everyone looked at her,

"Rex and Kanan, Ezra can not be in two places at a time. Work out a schedule. I will not allow you two to keep going like this with my godson."

Rex shook his head,

"Victory, as a soldier, Ezra must learn to manage his time and responsibilities."

Kanan crossed his arms,

"But Ezra's a Jedi, not a soldier. Our training is different."

Nikki rolled her eyes and Ezra threw down his gun and lightsaber,

"Maybe I don't want to be either. It's just...too much."

Nikki's eyes widened in shock as Kanan and Rex shared a look. Then Sabine walked in,

"Hey, we've got orders to return to the ship. Commander Sato needs us."

Nikki immediately grabbed Ezra's hand and pulled him up with her. They walked away while Sabine stayed with Rex and Kanan,

"What did I miss?"

Kanan glared at Rex,

"Rex is pressuring Ezra to become a soldier-"

"I am not. Ezra should get experience in everything, that's how one becomes well-rounded,"

Nikki sighed as she looked at Ezra,

"Ezra, I know it's tough juggling all these roles, but remember why you're doing this. I went through the same thing you are when I became a padawan-"

"Really?"

Nikki nodded with a small smile,

"Yeah. When I first came here, I trained as a regular soldier, as a clone. Rex and Cody were my teachers. Then, we learned I was force-sensitive and I got my first lightsaber. I started training with Master Kenobi, and I still had some lessons with Rex and mostly Cody, though, because he was my co-commander...but honestly, he was the commander. I was just going along for the ride until I understood more. The point is. Do not let the two get to you. They are going to take some time to get used to each other,"

Ezra sighed,

"I just miss the days when things were simpler. Sometimes, I feel like I'm being pulled in too many directions."

Nikki ruffled his hair,

"It is those days that build your foundations. Now, it is time to pave your path,"

Ezra sighed,

"You speak in riddles sometimes,"

Nikki laughed,

"Oh, if only you met Master Yoda,"

Ezra glanced at her,

"He was the grandmaster, right? Small green?"

Nikki chuckled and nodded,

"Yes, the best of the best."

Ezra nodded,

"Do you miss it?"

Nikki glanced at him,

"Miss what?"

"The Clone Wars?"

Nikki shrugged,

"Sometimes I do, but the past is the past. It is best to think of the present,"

Ezra slowly nodded,

"Alright,"

They walked into the meeting room. Commander Sato nodded his head,

"We have a mission. The people of the frozen planet Rinn are experiencing an energy crisis. We need to find them a new supply of fuel cells, or the colonies will freeze to death."

Ezra tilted his head,

"What about the black market? They might have some,"

Hera nodded,

"Good thinking, Ezra. Everyone gear up. Time to make friends with the locals,"

Ezra turned to leave, but Hera stopped him,

"Except for you, Spectre 6, I told you to clean the ship two times already,"

"But I had Jedi Practice, then Blaster Practice-"

"Well, now you have scrubbing practice,"

Chopper started laughing, and Hera looked at him,

"Chopper, you stay with Ezra,"

Nikki patted Ezra's shoulder,

"Cleaning will give you some practice with patience, just stay focused,"

Ezra nodded,

"Alright, good luck, Aunt Nikki,"

Nikki winked at him,

"No luck needed,"

Kanan put his hand on Ezra's shoulder,

"We will talk after we come back, okay?"

Ezra nodded,

"Alright,"

Nikki grabbed her Mandalorian Helmet and cloak as she walked over to Sabine so they could leave. Nikki, Kanan, Hera, Sabine, and Zeb arrive at the bustling black market on Garel. The marketplace is a labyrinth of makeshift stalls, dimly lit by flickering neon signs and filled with the cacophony of alien languages and bargaining. The team splits up, each member searching for any lead on fuel cells. Nikki heads towards a particularly crowded section where a Twi'lek merchant displays an array of technological gadgets and rare components. She approaches him cautiously,

"Excuse me, we're in need of fuel cells. Do you happen to have any?"

The merchant glanced at her, eyeing her helmet,

"Fuel cells? Hmm, that's valuable merchandise. What's your offer?"

Nikki glanced to the side and told everyone in to come to her before looking back at him,

"We can trade. What are you looking for?"

The merchant smirked,

"I deal in rare metals, droid parts, and exotic weaponry. Show me what you have."

Hera walked over to him with a box of droid parts,

"We have a lot of parts,"

Sabine smirked,

"And we have credits too,"

The merchant nodded,

"Let's talk business,"

The merchant seems about to agree to the deal when his demeanor suddenly changes, and he glances nervously over his shoulder,

"I... I can't help you with fuel cells. They're too risky to keep around here."

Nikki frowned and was about to speak when she noticed a shift around them and looked around,

"W-"

Before she could finish her warning, bounty hunters surrounded them.

"Hold it right there. Hand over your valuables, and nobody gets hurt."

Nikki and Kanan stepped up,

"I don't think so,"

Kanan ignited his blue blade,

"Last chance to leave now,"

"You're outnumbered, Jedi. Give us the goods or suffer the consequences."

Nikki smirked from under her helmet,

"Last chance to walk away peacefully."

Nikki's voice echoed from beneath her Mandalorian helmet, her tone steady and commanding despite the tense situation. Around her, Kanan stood firm, igniting his blue lightsaber, casting a cool azure glow across the dimly lit marketplace. Sabine and Hera had their weapons drawn while Zeb gripped his bo rifle with a determined stance. The bounty hunters, undeterred by the Jedis, tightened their formation. Their leader, a Duros with a scarred face, sneered as he gestured for his companions to advance,

"We're not leaving empty-handed. Hand over your valuables or prepare to fight."

Nikki's grip on her blaster tightened, her senses attuned to the shifting dynamics of the confrontation. She exchanged a quick glance with Kanan before looking back at the bounty hunters

"I suggest you think carefully about your next move."

Without warning, blaster fire erupted from both sides as the bounty hunters opened fire, their shots aimed with deadly precision. Nikki dodged blaster shots, returning fire with unwavering accuracy. Kanan danced through the barrage of blaster fire with his lightsaber, deflecting bolts back toward their originators. The azure blade hummed through the air, carving a path of protection around his allies. Sabine and Hera worked in tandem, their combined firepower suppressing the advancing bounty hunters. Zeb, towering over the skirmish, swung his bo rifle with formidable strength, knocking aside any bounty hunters who dared to approach too close. His roars echoed through the marketplace, a fierce battle cry that resonated with defiance.

Nikki sighed. She deactivated her blaster and ignited her purple lightsaber, cutting through the haze of blaster fire like a beacon of determination. With a swift motion, she closed the distance to the nearest group of bounty hunters, her lightsaber moving in deadly arcs.

"Enough!"

Her voice carried a blend of authority and conviction, compelling the bounty hunters to falter momentarily in their assault. One by one, they hesitated.

Kanan capitalized on the hesitation, pushing forward with a Force-enhanced leap that landed him amidst the disoriented bounty hunters. His lightsaber moved with unparalleled precision, striking down opponents with swift, calculated strikes. Hera and Sabine continued to provide cover fire, their shots strategically placed to keep the bounty hunters on the defensive. With each blast, they reinforced the Jedi's offensive, creating openings that allowed Nikki and Kanan to press their advantage.

The leader, realizing the tide turning against them, shouted orders to retreat. Reluctantly, the bounty hunters began to fall back, their initial bravado overshadowed by the realization of their impending defeat.

"Fall back! We're outmatched here!"

The leader signaled a retreat with one last defiant glare at the Jedi and their allies. The bounty hunters hastily regrouped and disappeared into the labyrinthine alleys of the marketplace, leaving behind the smoldering aftermath of their failed ambush. Nikki deactivated her lightsaber. She exchanged a brief nod with Kanan, their eyes conveying a silent acknowledgment of their victory.

"Looks like we won't be getting fuel cells here, though."

Hera approached her expression a mix of relief and determination,

"We'll find another lead. Let's regroup on the Ghost and figure out our next move."

Sabine sighed,

"Remind me to bring more explosives next time."

Zeb chuckled, his booming laugh reverberating through the marketplace.

"Never a dull moment."

Together, they made their way through the crowded marketplace, mindful of the lingering threat posed by the bounty hunters. As they departed, the bustling sounds of commerce gradually resumed, oblivious to the brief but intense clash that had unfolded moments ago. When they got back, they noticed that the Phantom was gone. Kanan sighed,

"Of course he went somewhere,"

Nikki put her hand on Kanan's shoulder,

"Be patient, he will come back soon,"

Hera sighed,

"Nikki, do you have some tips with Ezra? It feels like we aren't doing something right,"

Nikki laughed and took off her helmet to meet her eyes,

"Hera, you are doing the best you can. Ez is going to come around sooner than you think. He was always a little stubborn as a kid. I warned his parents early on that he was going to get himself into a lot of trouble. But you and Kanan stepped up as his space parents. That's what I would call you guys. You took him in when no one else could, and for that I am very grateful,"

Kanan frowned,

"Is that why you are helping us?"

Nikki smiled softly at him,

"Kanan, I am helping you guys because I am done hiding. I have hid for many years, and Astor was already up to joining the Rebellion. Our other friends are helping in their own way, as we have been doing for the past few years. I want to make sure my godson is safe, and I want to make sure I do a better job as one of the last Jedi Masters,"

Kanan chuckled,

"It's hard to wrap my head around that, Nikki Mils, the only Jedi with clone training,"

Nikki laughed and punched his shoulder,

"And Caleb Dume, the reckless padawan who punched first then asked questions,"

Kanan laughed and smiled softly at her,

"You know I did in fact go through lectures alongside you, you did more reckless things than I did,"

Nikki shrugged,

"I know, I still get lectured now,"

Hera shook her head,

"I did not know you two knew each other,"

Kanan nodded,

"We met because Nikki quite literally crashed into me when she tripped on the stairs,"

Nikki winced,

"Yeah, good times,"

Hera chuckled,

"Okay, okay, let's go find Ezra,"

Nikki shook her head,

"He will come to us,"

Kanan sighed,

"Alright, fine, let's wait for him to come back home."

They heard beeping and looked to see the Phantom coming back. Kanan chuckled,

"Alright, you get a point, Nikki, Ezra is back,"

Nikki shrugged as she stepped up,

"I'm not so sure,"

She closed her eyes and felt an old presence and she immediately put on her helmet,

"Remember, it's Sora, not Nikki,"

Kanan immediately stepped up as Rex, Cody, Sabine, and Zeb walked over to them. They watched as the hatch opened, and out came Hondo Ohnaka. Nikki's eyes widened in shock when she recognized him, and she immediately took a step back as subtly as she could. Rex stepped closer to her, and Cody was immediately on her other side. Hondo looked at them and smiled,

"Hello, my friends! I have quite a story on how I got here!"

Nikki sighed, and Kanan crossed his arms,

"We are listening,"

Hondo immediately started talking about his adventure with Ezra,

"So there we were, my friends. Ezra and I, aboard the Broken Horn, recently acquired in a most fortuitous game of Sabacc. Vizago, poor chap, he lost the ship and his droids fair and square, and yours truly emerged victorious!"

Cody raised an eyebrow at him,

"And how did you come to the ship?"

"Ah, details, details! The important thing is that young Ezra and I struck a deal. A partnership, if you will! We were off to Nixus to deliver some rather valuable generators to a buyer when... ah, trouble struck!"

Sabine leaned back against the wall,

"What kind of trouble?"

"Imperial trouble, my dear. They found us at an inconvenient moment, but fear not! With Ezra's quick thinking and Chopper's nimble hands, we avoided their clutches and escaped. Then, there was Azmorigan...You see, Azmorigan was expecting Vizago, but instead, he got me, Hondo Ohnaka! He wasn't pleased, no, no, not pleased at all. But fear not, my friends, for Ezra and I, we are quite resourceful. Together, we managed to turn the tables on Azmorigan, with a little help from Chopper and his... unique methods."

Nikki tilted her head,

"What about Vizago?"

Hondo let his gaze linger on her for a moment longer but immediately smiled,

"Ah, he was a little bit of a weak sport, I would say. He attacked us. But! Young Ezra stood tall against the robots that he used. He was standing against a huge attack-"

Ezra came walking in with Chopper, and Hondo immediately smiled at him,

"Ah, my friend!"

Ezra glared at him, and Hondo wrapped his arm around his shoulder,

"I was just talking about how we rescued those generators from evil Vizago!"

Ezra shrugged off his shoulder,

"Yeah, that's not what happened. You stole the generators and my ship!"

Hondo gasped,

"Oh, you wound me with such an accusation!"

Nikki smirked from her helmet as Ezra stared at him,

"Chopper had the Phantom on autopilot,"

Hondo shrugged as he started walking away,

"Yes, that's another part of the story, I suppose,"

Nikki walked up to Hondo,

"You talk big words, for a pirate,"

Hondo gasped,

"Me? A pirate? Oh, you wound me...You are not a Mandalorian. The other one glaring at me is one. But you are not,"

Nikki shrugged,

"I got the helmet for free,"

Hondo chuckled,

"Walk with me, my dear,"

Nikki glanced back at Rex and Cody, and she noticed that they had their hands on their blaster, and she shook her head. Hondo quickly bowed at the crew,

"You can keep the generators as a gift. Goodbye,"

Nikki walked with him until they were almost out of the hangar. Hondo turned to her,

"It is nice to see you alive. I heard that you were all branded as traitors and killed,"

Nikki sighed as she took off her helmet,

"How did you know it was me?"

Hondo laughed and smiled at her,

"Ezra reminded me of you during your years as a small Jedi. Ezra has the making of a good Jedi."

Nikki nodded,

"Yes, he does. I do hope you know that if you tell anyone that I am alive-"

"Yes, yes, you will kill me,"

Nikki chuckled and nodded,

"Bye, Hondo,"

"So long, Jedi Nikki,"

Nikki smiled as she saw Ezra run to catch up to him. She heard their conversation,

"Just so you know, at one time, I might have joined your crew."

Hondo laughed,

"Ah, Ezra, you truly are a Jedi, just like your godmother,"

Ezra frowned,

"How did you-"

"A pirate never tells their secret. Goodbye, Ezra Bridger. May we meet again,"

Nikki smiled and walked up to Ezra, and put her hand on his shoulder,

"Come on, Ez, let's go back,"

Ezra nodded, and the two walked away. Kanan walked up to Ezra and sighed,

"So, you went for a spin?"

"Yeah...just wanted to figure things out,"

"Did you?"

"I used to be like Hondo... Out for myself and alone. But that's not who I am anymore."

Kanan patted his shoulder,

"You are on a new path,"

Ezra smiled at him,

"Yeah, and I have you guys,"
