Chapter 10:"It's all going to go down".
He looks at the mirror in front of feeling the suffocation rising inside of him every second that passes by. Looking at those papers after she said those words only made him further confused and flustered at how he can't seem to make sense of anything.
Akbar was the one who was quick to action knowing he was in shock and kicked her parents out while dragging him back to their safe house.
He heard his bathroom door knocking hearing her voice from the other side which coaxed him back to her. No matter how many times he tries to separate himself from her and at times when there seems no 'us' for them, her voice always calls him back to her.
He opened the door watching her standing with those same damn papers in her hands.
"These are not my signature". She stated making him frown at her words as she shows him the paper he hates the sight of at this moment, "Look closely, they are fabricated. These are not my signature. That's what Akbar said because he made me sign and then checked them later saying they are fake".
He snatches the paper from her hand walking out of the room towards Akbar who was speaking on the phone in the lounge.
He throws the papers on the table after Akbar was done on his call, "What do you mean by these are fake?".
"You know how the world works, Awais. You need to calm down for me to explain things". Akbar said with a foreign calmness which made him calm himself down
He sits on the couch as she enters sitting on the opposite couch timidly. He hates seeing her this way, all he wishes is she is her usual fighter self again. Akbar decided it was safer for her to stay here instead of the hotel because they can't know and stop people there.
"You know people fake our signs all the time". Akbar said holding those marriage agreements papers, "This is the same case. I had a doubt when she came to me saying she never signed papers so I asked her to do the sign and with the expert help I was able to find that these are fake".
"So, this marriage doesn't exist?". He asked confused
"It's complicated. She isn't married by nature to him. But they have registered these marriage papers in the worldly law". Akbar explained sighing, "We need to work on this one. We have to find the person who did it and have them confessed at least so we can show the law that this marriage is not real".
"Why are they doing this?". He said brushing his hand through his hair, "How many years is this marriage registered for?".
"Since she turned 18". Akbar replied shortly
He releases a grunt, "Do you have an idea who it might be?".
She looks at him shaking her head, "I don't know anyone who can do this unless it is my parents".
"Don't think that your close friend or people who showed care for a while won't turn into your enemies". Akbar said breaking her eyes away from him, "The closest is faster to betray because they know us better".
"Then how do you even get married?". She asked confused, "Aren't they the biggest threat to you all?".
Akbar smirks leaning back on the couch, "You think I build this empire to have it destroyed in a blink?. I don't have the best professional on my team for no reason. I have eyes of an eagle which looks at everything and I know every move of everyone around me".
"You still can't possibly fight against mafia". She commented watching his face turned darker
Maybe she shouldn't have said that.
"You met Romaisa". Akbar said moving to sit straighter making her scared as she gulped, "What did you two speak of?".
She clenched her hand, "What business can she possibly have with me?".
"That's a lie". Akbar said smirking, "You cannot lie to me. If that woman willingly came to you, she must have said something important".
She bites her lips, "Um, she said that my past is catching on me".
"How does she knows about your past?". He asked confused
"It shouldn't be hard to find". Akbar said to Awais, "The question is why would she look into it and why will she warn you about it?".
"I don't know". She said gulping
"Why did you meet that man?". Akbar asked narrowing his eyes at her, "The one who deals with the stocks. Whose stock were you buying and why?".
"Leave her alone. What's with the interrogation?". He said shaking his head at Akbar wild imagination and need to fulfil it, "She has a hard day. Go and rest".
She nodded thankfully as she runs away from there before Akbar could serve her head in dinner. She enters the safety of the room assigned to her and starts to think about what Akbar said.
Who could it be?.
She spends hours dwelling and having enough of it, she heads out of her room. Though before she didn't have a chance to explore this villa so she didn't pay attention to how gorgeous it is just like all their houses back there.
This must be something they all love because all their houses are grand and beautiful designed by the best architecture alive.
Not just the exterior of the houses but the interior is so precisely done that one can't stop being fascinated.
She bumped into someone coming back to the reality watching Akbar looking at her blankly.
"Is something wrong?". She asked confused
Akbar shakes his head, "Just a little warning that since we are going to be involved with your past which means you are one of us now, if by any way I find that you are bringing any trouble to any of us or any harm that is caused because of you, I won't be nice. Trust me you don't want to find me when you have done any wrong".
She holds her hand together nervously nodding.
"Now that that's is clear, Awais is one of the softest one in all of us which means that I care for him more than the others if you become a reason to hurt him forget what I said about doing anything to my empire it will be far worse if he is the one in pain because of you". Akbar warned and the darkness in his eyes made her heart clenched
She nodded hurriedly rushing past him. She calm downs when she was far away from him taking a deep breath when her phone rings with a message making her look around before she answers to it.
She stands in front of the long shelves looking at her favourite book at the top shelves of this villa library which was specifically made by Usman since he likes to read. Each of their touches is present in this villa and she can tell right away what belongs to who and why.
She sighs.
"Why is that whenever you are troubled, you are in front of these books?". She heard his voice startling her
She shrugged, "Books makes you forget things for a while".
He nodded taking out the book effortlessly and she almost kicked him for being so tall.
"You are just short, Laila". He said chuckling knowing she is cursing his height
She rolls her eyes snatching the book from his hand moving to sit on the soft couch, "Why do you all have all the good things and the wealth too?".
"Do you hate it that we have it?". He asked sitting in front of her looking at her round glasses hiding her face behind it but she still looks adorable
She shakes her head, "I envy it".
"You are a part of it now". He said honestly as a smile appears on his face making her heart race
"I don't wish to be a part of you all. That is not where I belong". She said shaking her head as she starts to read the book, "Your world is not mine, Awais. Don't bring people carelessly in your world. They might just come to ruin you".
"Wouldn't it be worth to be ruined for?. Wealth is meant to go away but those few moments can live forever". He said softly
"Not at the expense of everyone who cares for you losing everything too". She said shrugging
He sighs.
She starts to read the book falling into the world that doesn't exist while she remains in it forgetting her reality.
He continued to look at her not being able to look away from how beautiful she looks in the moonlight that falls on her while she solely focuses on her. Her beautiful hair falls her waist and the curls of them only make her looks exquisite.
"I am going to protect you at all cost". He whispers as an adorable frown appears on her face making him smile, "It will be worth it".
She heard the bell ringing and a few moments later someone calls her downstairs as she starts to move she can't help but think of what new trouble came for her in a matter of one day.
She hasn't even escaped from her parent's betrayal and she isn't ready for more.
As she stops at the last stair she found her younger sister- Rania standing in front of her making her smile as she runs to her hugging her.
"It's been so long since I last saw you". She said as she moves back looking at her, "You have grown so much".
"You have too". Her sister said smiling tightly, "I never thought you will come back here".
"I never thought I will be here either". She said sighing, "But work calls me here".
"What are you planning to do now?". Her sister asked
She shrugged, "I don't know. Do you know that they said I am married to that man?. You know I never married him".
"Did you forgot?". Her sister said moving back
"What did I forget?". She asked confused
"You married him, Laila. How can you forget it?". Her sister asked
She frowns, "No. Those are not my signs. I never signed any papers".
"Yes, you did". Her sister said insisting
It took her a long minute to process the reality that she wasn't aware of.
She clenched her hand turning around as she took a deep breath turning back to her sister.
"You did those sign". She stated looking at her sister as the hurt was clear in her voice, she brushes her hair away chuckling bitterly, "You were the one who learned my sign just before I was planning to run away. You were the only one who knows everything".
"What are you talking about?". Her sister said frowning
"Don't play with me". She snapped heading towards her holding her shoulder, "You did it. Why did you do it?. I never did anything to you then why?".
Her sister pushed her hands away glaring at her, "Because I loved Ismael. But he always looked at you. You didn't even have anything besides your filthy mouth, disgusting hair and self yet he would only look at you. I thought after you ran away he will notice me but all he tried was to find you and finally, he came with the plan to copy your signature. He was going to have someone else do it but I told him I know how to do it and I did it". Her sister steps closer to her, "I did it so you can suffer forever without being free from that man you never liked".
She slapped her sister hard smirking, "You should have mentioned my brain while you were at it".
"W-What?". Her sister said taken back
She pulls her phone from her pocket on which she switched the recorder on when she turned around for a minute playing it and it repeats all the words of her sister confession.
"Though I hate the fact that you loved a lowly man like him and betrayed me for it". She said as her eyes narrowed at her sister pale face, "I will make sure you all pay for it".
Her sister tries to snatch the phone out of her hand but she pushes her away. The guard throws her sister out of the house and she stumbles back for a moment when things settled in her.
"Are you ok?". Awais said coming closer to her
"No". She said shaking her head as tears brimmed her eyes but she pushed them back looking at Akbar, "You can work with this, right?".
"I can prove everything since she confessed on her own. It will take a while but it shouldn't take that long with my connections". Akbar said nodding
She sighs as she sends the recording to him.
"Since this is done we need something stronger to fight them off". Akbar said making them both turn to him
"What is that?". Awais said confused
Akbar smirks making both of them scared of his evil mind, "I guess we are going to prepare a wedding soon".
"Who is getting married?". She asked confused as both men look at each other in some sort of language she doesn't understand, "Why are we speaking about marriage all of a sudden?. Whose wedding are we speaking about?".
He turns towards her looking in her eyes, "Ours".
*****
