Chapter 6:"Snippets".
He opened his foggy eyes feeling everything within him hurting. He groaned trying to turn around when he found a weight over himself. He blinks his eyes rapidly trying to remember the details of what he last remembers and his eyes widen when he remembers almost bumping into something and the fear of hurting her overcoming his sense.
"Go back to sleep, Usman". He heard her mumble sleepy, "I want to sleep more".
His lips turn into a soft smile as he remembers her almost whining every single day to him the same thing and he never once allowed her the extra minutes however today was another thing. Because in the past he had a feeling much stronger than love within him and now his love was overpowering every other emotion.
So, once he heard her even breathing he turns his head to find her sleeping on the chair beside his bed. He frowns looking around to find himself in the hospital, again. He sighs turning to his side to look at her properly as she sleeps with one hand under her chin and other tangled in his hand holding onto him tightly and he tugged at her hand feeling the softness of it against his hard hand. His smile never leaves his lips as he continues to admire her but when she moves her hair fall over her face hiding her away from him. He didn't like that so he gently pushes her hair away and behind her ear allowing his fingers to touch the forbidden territory as of now. His fingers brush against her ear, to her cheekbones and then her jawline stopping near her lips.
He loves the feeling that blooms within him with a simple touch of hers. He continued admiring until the doctor opened the door a little too hard waking her in the process making him scowl at the doctor who apologized profusely looking at her discreetly and not looking apologetic at all to which he found her rolling her eyes walking to the couch sitting there.
He grumbled under his breath having her away from him but he didn't show on his face. His face remained hard, cold and calculating as the doctor continued to ask him questions he replies with one word until he asked the question he shouldn't have. He wasn't known to be a kind, gentle man instead he was a hard man for anyone to speak to more than five words.
"Is she your wife?".
They both flinch.
"Yes, she is. Why?. Do you have a problem with it?". His voice was low maniac at the hurt that crossed her face when it was asked
Maybe he should announce it?.
But will she like it?.
Probably not.
She hates him now.
"Sorry! We wanted to be sure since she had filled for your stay for a week here". The doctor explained to calm his anger
But his anger wasn't the one that will calm down that soon. He was an angry man and there was no way he will let something go this easy.
"A week?. Who said I will stay a week?".
He didn't want to stay that long because then her new hotel will come under problem. She cannot stay away that long from her work because of him. His health can be taken care of on some other day he doesn't want to be the reason for something going wrong for her.
"I said it". She said narrowing her eyes at him even when her eyes were tired and in need of sleep, she still looks scary and that's a first time he had seen her like that, "And you will stay here until we are clear of your health problems".
"But--".
"He will stay here. Don't worry". She said to the doctor who nodded walking away
"Your work--".
"Can wait. There is no way I am taking a half-dead man with me possibly leading him to die on his way on my shoulder".
"If it's your shoulder I can die a happy man".
"Are you staying with Akbar these days?. Where did you learn all these-these stupid lines?". She asked tiredly as she places her head on the couch
He chuckles, "Maybe I had it in me and I never showed you". He watches her sighing falling back asleep," And that is what I regret the most. Not showing you the actual me".
She opens her eyes feeling someone eyes on her and she didn't need to know exactly who because the familiar sensations within her told her that it was him. She sighs straightening herself back looking directly at him and he didn't even look away instead a full boyish smile appears on his face making him look like a teenager.
"Did I tell you that you look adorable when you are asleep?". He asked grinning
She shrugged, "Not really".
"Well, you do".
"Thank, I guess?".
"Don't mention it".
She rolls her eyes standing walking closer to him placing her hand over his forehead because the doctor said he might have symptoms of his weakness soon. Thankfully he wasn't coming down with the fever and unconsciously her eyes went to his eyes gazing at her in pure admiration. Her breathing hitched as her hand move from his forehead and her finger brushing against his eyes down his nose stopping at his cheeks as she caressed them not knowing why her heartfelt at ease with a mere touch. His eyes up close give another world to anyone who looks into them. It's like a small galaxy hidden in the depth of them that she was never able to read through as many times as she tried.
However, as she looks into them all she found was an emotion she used to have for him. Love; it shines deeply and brightly overpowering every other emotion he had in his eyes. The way his eyes takes in her every feature pleading to her to forgive him. The way the familiar feeling of home enters inside her heart and the window she had shut down shaking from the intensity of his stare at her.
She moves back shaking her head, "Did you eat?".
"No". She heard the torment in his words that she choose to ignore as usual
"What is wrong with you, Usman?. You cannot ruin your health". She said desperately trying to have him understand
"Who cares?. I can die for all you care".
"I care. I care, Usman. How can you joke about death that easily?. Do you even know what's it's like to die and leave people to cope with that loss?".
"And what do you know about it?".
"My mother died in a car accident, dammit, she died right in front of my eyes and I wasn't able to do a thing to help her". She cried out feeling all her bottled emotions coming to her especially since the past 24 hours had been a crazy ride, "We were in our car riding back when another car hit us hard and I don't know how many cars we hit but there were at least two cars in that accident besides ours and they both came in opposite sides hitting our car driving turning it around".
He watches her weeping holding her face in her hand just a few inches away from him. His heart clench hearing her words as he tries to process them. He never heard about her mother before.
"What about your mother?". He asked confused, "The one I met?".
She chuckles bitterly, "That's my stepmother and the brother you met is my stepbrother".
"Why didn't you say anything before?".
"Would you have listened?". She challenged and he looks down guilty
"I know what it means to lose someone you truly love. I lost my mother too in an accident". He whispers hearing her gasp, "She was all I ever had and I lost her in one night".
He feels her wrapping her hands around him holding him tightly as his eyes moist remembering his mother. He had a small glimpse of his mother as the shock left him with only a few memories because it had affected his health after. His father wasn't that much of a support system so he had to cope with most of his loss on his own worsening his situation and imbalances his emotions.
He wrapped his arms around her gently pulling her on his lap inhaling her sweet scent trying to save this moment in his memory for when he needs comfort. She was always his comfort no matter what. Her simple hugs were enough to bring him on his knees telling her his deepest darkest secrets.
He wished he had done that before but he hadn't and that ruins everything he could have had with her.
She moves away wiping her tears away but there was no way they were stopping. He moves his thumb wiping her tears away kissing her forehead, "Shhh, Jaan. I am here. I will always be here for you".
"You need to eat". She mumbles into his chest enjoying his warmth that surrounds her
"I was waiting for you to eat I don't like eating alone". He said as she pulls away and he tucks a strand of her hair away, "You should book a room in hotel or I could ask my hotel to give one of the room to you for rest--".
"I am fine here. I won't be able to rest away from here". She replied sighing as she stands away from him straighten herself
"But you need to rest properly". He argued
"So do you. Now, I don't think in this hospital where we are stuck because you were being a baby you have any authority of ordering me around. It's I ordering you around". She said smirking
"That means I can order you around outside then?". He asked amused
"I will have your head at platter before that happens". She said turning around to call for his food
He laughs, "I would like to see that".
"With your mouth running miles, it might happen sooner than expected". She said irritated that he is enjoying himself
"Still you should go to the room to freshen yourself a little". He said softly once she was done ordering their food
She thought for a moment, "I will ask my secretary to do that".
"I can do it for you". He offered
"No, thanks".
She asked her secretary to book her a room in one of the other hotels that aren't Usman's because she knows he will speak to his hotel manager to arrange things for her more precisely than needed.
She walks back inside watching him sulking, "You should have gone to my hotel. What will people think if they find out that my wife didn't stay at my hotel?".
"That when did you have a wife in the first place". She said nonchalantly looking through her email
His eyes filled with the agony, "I can tell them if you would like that".
"I would not".
"Why?".
"Because Usman we are not in a relationship anymore. We have been apart for 7 years and that's not a joke. We were never together even before these 7 years. It was a game and that is all it was and that is all it will be for us".
"But it isn't anymore. It doesn't need to be that way anymore. I want to do this right".
"I don't appreciate you walking back into my life wanting to change what you have already done. You had a chance and you crushed it. I don't have any more feeling for you. I would rather live on my own instead of being associated with you in any way possible".
"Then answer something for me". He asked looking directly at her, "Why did you choose to a hotel over what you actually loved?".
"Because that is what was available for me". She lied
He shakes his head, "No! You had enough resources to pull what you wanted then why did you go for a hotel?".
"You stole one from me, Usman. I had to build another to get over it". She argued trying to have him leave this topic because she doesn't wish to tell him the truth
"You are lying. You are simply lying and you know it". Usman said holding her hand pulling her closer to him and his face just a few inches away from him making her breathing hitched, "You went for a hotel because of me. You went for it because you always said it made you feel like I was there. You did it because you wanted to have me with you".
