Chapter 8:"Hope and escape?".
She didn't hear him.
He turns around walking outside leaving her alone. She wonders what he had said but was relieved that she managed to push him away again. She turns to her work looking at the shades on the table.
"So are you going to walk or do I have to carry you?". She heard him speak
She turns to find him standing there grinning at her and she frowns because she doesn't see the reason for it.
"I am going nowhere with you". She said stubbornly
"Carrying it is". He said taking stride towards her holding her in his hands as she squeals wrapping her hands around his neck to not fall down
"Put me down". She said gritting her teeth
"Baby, don't provoke me to do that". He said smirking
She looks at them standing at the top stairs and she narrows her eyes at him huffing in defeat which made him grin. She has known him a lot and that teaches him that this man will do anything that he wants without any care of others.
He places her in the seat changing the lock immediately so she doesn't run away and quickly run to his own seat.
He grins.
"I don't see any reason to be happy". She said after a while of observing his perfect smile
"And why is that?". He asked looking at her briefly sending her heart in an overdrive
"Because we didn't have any happiness between us neither there is a hope to be happy for". She said turning to look out of the window
"Maybe there is hope". He mumbles shaking his head driving to his condo
Just as he parks she tries to open the door only for it to not open until he opens it which made her furious yet again.
Children's lock.
"How dare you?. I am no kid who needs that lock". She said angrily
He chuckles, "You are right. You are worse than a kid. Because if a kid was in this situation my first warning would have him run for the hill".
"I am not scared of you, Akbar". She said closing the car door behind her leaning on it crossing her arms on her chest to look more confident
He takes a step closer to her leaning so close to her, "That is exactly why I can't help but come back".
"I don't get it". She said frowning
He shrugged, "Maybe you will one day".
With that, he holds her hand tightly dragging her inside the condo once again.
"I am not staying here". She said ready to run as she tries to open the door lock
Which didn't open.
She turns to glare at the man who was smirking at her, "What?. You called me smart, right?. Don't you think after how you were able to run away in the morning I will have arrangements done by now so you won't be able to again?".
She didn't miss the anger when he thinks about her running away from him. He will never forget it either. If there were a few things he hates it's all betrayal- number one and second will be defying him. Ironically he was the one betraying yet faith was with him all this damn time while she suffers silently.
She doesn't ever want to enter his world yet he dragged her in without her permission. Deep in her heart where the wound lays cut and bleeding without anything to heal it, she doesn't know what could bring it the remedy or maybe who. Day in and out she has done what normal people do after a heartache- run, hide, change, busy life, successful life and so on.
Nothing healed her.
Not even time which is said to be the greatest remedy of all.
"Baby?". She heard his soft voice calling her
She raises her eyes looking at him with the hurt and her wound open looking at the same eyes she used to think about and the one that became her greatest heartbreak.
Akbar clenches his hand on his sides looking in her same accusation that she always shows whenever they are together. All he had done is secure her with him but had he made his heart strong enough to stand in front of her?. In front of these eyes which held pain beyond words in them?. To stand as an accuser when he was the one who was wronged?.
These eyes- these beautiful eyes that used to be so lively and full of life that no one had ever seen a single pain in them. Those luxurious lips of her used to smile at everyone especially him. Those words of her that used to be his sweet melody he thought of day and night which now spitfire. How has she changed so much?.
"Let me go, Akbar". She said stern
"There is no way I will ever let you go. Not now". He said shaking his head, "We should eat".
With that, he swiftly turns around leaving.
She sighs.
She walks towards his terrace looking down at the world buzzing with noises as the night was still young. People roaming around and laughing. She looks at the moon admiring it beauty joining her hands but then her finger brush against the cold metal that lays in her hand.
Her ring.
Which he gifted her on their Nikaah. It was simplest, holding nothing but purity in it. She wonders why she hasn't taken it off but most importantly was he wearing it?. It was all because he knew everyone will ask and he had to give her something. He must have removed it so she should do it too, right?.
Just as she tries to remove it her heart rejected the idea so she let it be.
It's just a ring.
He had already sealed their faith what more can a ring do?.
She turns around to find him leaning against the door of Terrance looking directly at her. The look of admiration and adoration in his causes her heart to skip a beat.
"What?". She asked turning around to look anywhere but at him
"Nothing. The dinner is ready". He said after a long pause
She nodded entering inside the dining table to find food. She sits three chairs away from him to not have any contact or him near him. But even if she did sits away from him how can she not feel the scorching eyes on her skin?. How can she avoid the heart that beats against her chest ready to leap out?.
Time after time, she realises that marrying this man is going to mean that she has to kill herself every single day.
She was used to it.
Killing herself. However, now it means each of her already pierced pieces will be pierced time and time again until there is nothing but ashes left of them.
She plays with the food in her plate obviously she knows he can cook because he had made her eat many times back in high school when she would not have her own food. It was the same her walking away and hiding from him because she doesn't like him sacrificing his food for her but then he will end up finding her every single time form every hole she hides in even if it's the girl washroom.
That one sure wins big time because him being the ultimate golden child in school have it's privileges and he used all of them for her. Which is, him making her come out of the washroom. He had asked some girls to help him have her come out of the washroom and them being his minion did it for nothing but his acknowledgement from him. She remembers how embarrassed she was back then from the event circulating around and then Inaya knowing it but she never said anything to her.
She was scared of being bullied more than usual and principal calling her but then he had to jump in taking all the blame and saying that he forced her to come out of the washroom and she wasn't involved. Though she wasn't involved it was because of her.
But he did get punished for it.
Then how come such a boy turn back on her?.
How?.
She pushes her plate away standing from her seat ready to leave this place. Because the more she stays there the more she wants to run away.
"Let me go, Akbar". She said threatening
"What is wrong with you?. I said you won't go anywhere". Akbar said frowning at her mood
He can clearly see the fire burning in those eyes.
"Akbar". She said raged
"No means no. You want to get out of here, try it. Even if you call the cops on me no one can take you away from me". Akbar said walking out of the dining room to the lounge without eating
Because he had been watching her the whole time silently and the pain reflecting in her eyes as she plays with her food. Those questions and accusations he had no idea about but that it was for him. He wasn't able to speak neither gulped any of his own food because of the heavyweight that hung between them.
"I will not sleep in your room. Give me another one now". She said coming after him knowing she can't leave from here so maybe she can hide somewhere here
"Not an option, baby". Akbar said shrugging, "The only room for you is my room or should I say ours?".
"I said just give me one of the other room". She said gritting her teeth
"Every room is locked and I have the keys so it's either the couch here or by the bed in our room". Akbar said
"I will not sleep in your bed". She said angrily
"You didn't have any problems last night". Akbar said smirking
"I knew it". She said chuckling dryly making him stilled, "I knew you would say that and then next what?. Do you want to mock me for being abused?. Or not being rap-".
"Not another word". He warned thunderous taking a stride towards her as he holds her hand shaking her and pulling her to his chest, "Not another word, Zainab".
She gulped her tears away not wanting to show the man who was the reason for her most tears. She blinks her eyes looking at his chest not being able to hold his eyes. He places his finger gently on her chin raising her face to look in her anguished eyes.
His eyes soften with such a tender look that she feels her heart ripping altogether and then he speaks, "How can you think so low of me, baby?. Why?. Why do you think I will ever make fun of your pain?. Do you have any idea how much I suffer when I came to know about all of that?. Do you know how I wanted to kill that man as slowly and as painfully as possible?. Do you know how much it kills me to know now that there was no one by your side then?. That I wasn't there even when I promised to be there?. Do you?".
"You weren't there, Akbar. Not even once. You are the reason for everything. Why did you come back?. Why?". She cried looking at him, "I don't want to stay with you. Not anymore. I cannot stay with-".
Before she could even speak another word that cut her own heart like his. His lips descended on her in force that she felt like she was struck with lightning. There was no gentleness in it, no, it was all about his desperation, frustration and his denial to her ever leaving him.
He pulls back from her leaning his head on her forehead, "Get one thing through your head I didn't marry you to leave you in this life. I marry you to have you until my very last breath as my wife. There is no escape from him, baby".
