Sábháilte
S Á B H Á I L T E
Are you being hunted by humans? Were you recently revealed to be Irregular to a human you like? In a toxic relationship/family you need to get away from? Just need to escape from a world where they write stories about killing your kind as heroic deeds but don't even know you exist? Maybe you want to ask advice from other Irregulars or want to help out?
That's what Sábháilte is. Disguised as an abandoned building to those looking in from outside and warded to dispel curiosity about the place, it has a fairly nice interior. Though it isn't very modern, it's very reminiscent of a grandparents house, what with some horrid yellow wallpaper in the front room and the checked linoleum tablecloth on the kitchen table.
The place is run by Dubhchobhlaigh, a banshee who has taken to mothering random Irregulars when her family started getting too big for her to look after. Getting close to her means she'll sometimes ring you to tell you not to do whatever you're planning to do, even if it's just to save you from a minor danger ('lukewarm coffee will ruin your whole day if it spills on you! I wouldn't call that minor!"). Other times she'll be more direct and start weeping loudly in front of you about the car crash you're going to have in thirty years time. She means well though, and her warnings have prevented a lot of accidents. Some people go to Sábháilte just so they can have a banshee to act as their spidey sense.
There's chairs everywhere, so even though the sitting room is the biggest area, you can sneak off to the much smaller kitchen and sit away from people.
There's a moderate sized dining room, and Dubhchobhlaigh does try to cook food. It's a little repetitive though, there's only so much stew and Shepard's pie that you can eat. The teapot is always hot and kept full, Dubhchobhlaigh is rather like a typical Irish grandmother in that, if you're coming to her place, you're having tea. Don't like tea? "Ah go on, just a drop. Ah would you go on, just a bit. Sure won't you have a little bit, dear? You will, won't you? You'll have a cuppa?-"
There's quite a few bedrooms for people to stay in overnight if they want. They aren't particularly pretty or big, but they're warm and feel safe.
That's the general feel of the place actually - it isn't much to look at, but it feels lived in and warm.
