My Characters
I'm sure there's a ton of typos, but I just finished writing forms so leave me alone~ This will be updated with more characters later. I have one or two human characters and three more Irregulars to write about (I mean, I haven't even written some villains yet!) but these are the main characters I'll be using... probably? Probably not actually, but whatever.
The Dullahan - Toirdhealbhach
Name: Toirdhealbhach
Alias: N/A
Gender: male
Age: appears to be in his early thirties, actual age is unknown - his beginnings are foggy even to him. He knows that he was human once and that he probably came to be somewhere in the 12th century.
Appearance: very tall and rather thin, almost skeletal. Despite being relatively skinny, he has thighs of steel from his constant horse riding, so his muscles are quite well build there. His hands are quite rough and callouses from riding, though he usually covers them up with gloves. His pale skin seems very grey and his cheekbones are quite prominent - he looks more like a corpse than a living being (which is pretty accurate). He has very long hair, straight as an arrow and black as coal. His eyes are rather sunken, and appear to be grey. They're usually accompanied by bags underneath or some amount of dark eye makeup. He could been seen as somewhat attractive if not for his rather grey skin and tired/dead looking appearance.
He's very found of dark clothing, especially cloaks and capes. To appear more intimidating, he embraces the vampire vibes he gives off by dressing in a rather regal goth style. The heavily gothic clothing as well as the cape may give humans the impression that he's in cosplay, which would explain to them the blood stains often seen on his clothing. It would also explain the strange looking whip often seen in his hand, strange looking because it's made from human spinal cords.
Irregular Appearance: mostly the same, though his head is rather less attached.
Species: Irregular. The Dullahan/Gan Ceann AKA the Irish Headless Horseman - know to go around killing an innocent person every night and blinding everyone else by splashing blood in their eye or slashing them with his whip. Seen riding a horse or in a black carriage pulled by six horses.
Role: barbed wire and super villain/ savage - all he knows about his human life is that he was once killed for a reason he felt was injust. For a while, this meant he wanted to take revenge against his killer by killing all humans. If he had to die, they all could. Eventually he grew a little calmer, and only went after those who had commuted injustices - mostly those who had hurt other Irregulars. He still tended to blind humans if they got on his nerves. Now, he considers himself a protector of Irregulars, and keeps his dislike of humans a prominent part of his personality. He'll kill any human who enters his residence without question, and if he hears about a human hurting an irregular, he'll hunt them down. Because if this, he tends to go after hunters. Because his Irregular and human forms are so similar, it's hard to class him as either a super villain or a savage, depends how much he wants to spook the human he's after. Because humans don't know that these hunters kill Irregulars, they think he's killing innocent people.
Powers:
-ultimate targeting system: once he has someone in his mind, he can find them wherever they are. Locks and gates will just open for him so that there is never a way to stop him from finding his target.
-Supernatural sight: he has far superior eyesight to humans, able to see perfectly with very little light for far distances. His eyesight also makes it easier for him to aim, which is why he's good enough at aiming his whip to blind people.
-Being undead means he's harder to kill. He can be hurt and incapacitated, but to make sure he stays down, you'll need to destroy the head - like a zombie.
Relic: a silver torc
Personality: Toirdhealbhach tries his best to appear intimidating. He hardly speaks, just to give an air of mystery (though he can speak perfectly fine). A lot of people assume he's unable to, or is at least selectively mute. He likes to reinforce the legend that he's only permitted to say the name of his next victim to them before he kills them, though sometimes this isn't possible. He tries to be a very stoic and serious character, hiding any smirks or grins he might express. Really, he's quite sympathetic to Irregulars that have been through bad things and inside he melts at any signs of affection people show him (though he doesn't let them know that!). He doesn't make friends easily, so those he can make friends with, he holds to a high regard and allows himself to speak more freely to. If a scared or young Irregular needed his help he way break his silent and intimidating show to reassure them. He has a strong sense of justice, even if it is a bias one. If anyone hurts an Irregular, he thinks that they deserve to die. He hates humans quite a bit and isn't afraid to show it. This doesn't mean he thinks that all humans are bad, but he would never trust one. He holds a similar negative bias towards the English, Americans, and probably some other people. Living during the Irish Famine (*cough* genocide *cough*) and the Anti-Irish period of America, he has seen both countries at their worst and he holds distrust for anyone from both countries (especially England). He often refuses to speak English just to be difficult ("they tried to take Irish from us! Don't tell me they weren't trying to kill our culture! Let me tell you about-"). If you want him to loose his silent streak, just mention the English and he'll probably rant about them for half an hour (albeit, in Irish).
Strengths:
- excellent aim
- Strong muscles (especially in the core, back and thighs)
- Good with animals, especially horses. He can do things like controlling his horse's direction with just his legs among others things.
- Great sense of balance
Weaknesses: Not very strong and bad at fighting when very close or from a distance. Not very good at socialising, partially because he doesn't speak very much and also because most people that he directly talks to wind up dead. He would go after anyone that hurts an innocent irregular, no matter how likely he'd die because of it.
Fears: gold (no reason why), humans (though he'd never admit it), and death (he's already done it once)
Backstory: once human, Toirdhealbhach was once killed and for some reason, didn't stay that way. He hunted down innocent people at first, blinding anyone who dared look his way while doing so. He at some point mellowed out enough that he only hunts those he finds to be guilty - mostly hunters. He has a weird friendship with Dubhchobhlaigh, the banshee. At first, she accompanied him to warn his non-targets of their approach, as she couldn't convince him to just, not blind people. She convinced him that it would be better to house the Irregular population than kill tons of innocent humans. Now he only goes after humans if he hears of their specific crimes against Irregulars.
Quote: "..."
Other:
- he has a whip that is made from human spinal cords (and spelled to work as well as a whip)
- Sometimes he carries blood with him to throw in people's faces
- He has six black horses that can run faster than cars, so furious that flames emerge from their nostrils. He sometimes rides out on one horse, and other times uses all six to pull a carriage.
- Runs Marcach Apartments
Cŵn Annwn - Arawn
Name: Arawn Gravenor
Alias: Hellhound
Gender: female
Age: born around the 11th century, looks to be in her early twenties
Appearance: skin fairly pale, with bright white hair. Her hair goes a little past her shoulder and is rather untamed. Her eye colour appears to be fairly red. She's about average height and is fairly skinny. Her canines are slightly bigger and pointier than an average human's, and the rest of her teeth are a little more pointed. She has a rather thin face and nose.
She loves the colours red and white, so she ends up wearing a lot of pink. She covers her eyes up with sunglasses when she can to avoid drawing attention to her red eyes. Because of her red eyes, she can usually pass off wearing them because of a supposed sensitivity to light. She wears a lot of sportsgear.
Often she looses control of her emotions a little and her canines push outwards more, and her eyes appear a brighter red. She nails grow into pointed claws. She can also do this on purpose.
Irregular Appearance: A white hound with red ears.
Species: Irregular - Cŵn Annwn, hounds of Arawn, king of Ännwn.
Role: superhero, human hugger - Arawn used to be part of the Wild Hunt, and would pursue wrongdoers until they could run no longer. With the freedom to do anything, Arsenal does what she knows best - she finds criminals and hunts them down, often with Toirdhealbhach, the headless horseman. Despite being accused of working for the devil by humans at some points in history, Arawn likes anyone that's a good person.
Powers: Arawn is the ultimate hunter. She isn't especially strong or good at fighting, but she can't be slowed down. She has the powers of super durability and endurance. She never runs out of stamina and can recover quickly from any injury. She may only run as fast as a quick dog, but she will never get tired. You'll need to stop to rest, she won't. Eventually she'll catch up. While you take more and more damage at each encounter, she'll recover from even the most gruesome injuries rather quickly.
She also has supernatural senses. Once she has your scent, she can track you no matter where you are, even if it wouldn't make sense. Her hearing is about the same as a dogs and the rest of her senses are about normal for a human.
Relic: a pink choker. She finds the resemblance to a dog collar funny.
Personality: Arawn is very open with her emotions and is quite over emotional. She is excited very easily and likes to show affection to those she likes. Sometimes this means she forgets about things like 'personal space' (what's that? Probably fake) Though she has had a human form for quite some time and is as intelligent as one, when she gets very emotional she tends to forget herself and reverts back using dog behaviour. This could be her getting excitable enough to lick someone she likes before she remembers that it isn't really a thing that humans do, or could be her growling at someone she doesn't like. She's very friendly towards new people and is probably a little more affectionate than most. She can get very anxious when inactive for a while and is bored easily. She is very loyal to those that she likes and is very protective over them. Despite her relatively affectionate personality, she has a strong sense of right and wrong and cares deeply about truth and justice.
Strengths:
- sharp teeth and claws
- Determined and focused when she has a target
- Loyal and protective
Weaknesses:
- not especially strong or good at fighting
- Not the smartest
- Sometimes bad at social situations (see back to her personality - licking people, biting them, etc.)
- Her enhanced senses can often causes sensory overload
- Though resilient, she can be beaten for a while. If you shoot her, the bullet won't bounce off her, she's has to heal from it. (Even if she does this quickly, it allows people to get away)
- If she loses focus on a hunt she will lose the supernatural sense of smell she has over her target and has to rely on the kind of senses that a regular dog has. Loosing focus basically ruins her hunt. She can lose her focus by being hurt badly enough. She if she wants to keep fighting, she has to somehow find her target without her supernatural sense of smell. It's hard, but she's usually pretty determined.
Fears:
- unexpected threats: When she perusing someone and suddenly there's someone new, she gets really scared - even if she can handle. This might cause her to run away or at least, lose the scent of her target.
- Hurting an innocent person.
- Being captured: if Arawn is trapped, she is essentially useless, as she can't really use her powers to escape. She was captured one before, and fears it happening again.
Backstory: Arawn took her name from her owner Arawn, the Welsh god of Ännwn (basically the underworld). She was a loyal servant to him for years before she was taken (along with one of Arawn's lapwings and white roebucks ) by Amaeton, which led to a war that Arawn lost to Amaeton and his brother Gwydion. It's kinda iffy whether Arawn died or not after this battle. He probably didn't, but Imma say he did. The guy died, though he had managed to get his dog (our Arawn) back (don't know if that happened, who does?). With no owner and some bad people she was scared of behind her, she ran. She doesn't know whether or not Arawn came back to life, seeing as he was sort of a god, but she's never checked and no one has come looking for her. She ended up in BhaileSráidbhaile at some point (and had gotten her first relic at that point) and eventually ended up living in Murcach Apartments after it was established. She didn't have any money but Toirdhealbhach, the owner, has a soft spot for Irregulars in terrible situations and liked the girl for her strong sense of justice. She currently works there and often hunts with the man. When superheroes started becoming 'a thing' she decided to try her hand at it.
Quote: "fuck fireworks, am I right?"
Other:
- works in Marcach Apartments
- Is technically a spirit, but has physically form? Don't question it.
- Apparently if you hear the cŵn annwn bark three times, you're as good as dead. This isn't true, Arawn barks a lot.
- Arawn took her name from her old owner, Arawn, god of the underworld.
The Banshee - Dubhchobhlaigh
Name: Dubhchobhlaigh. (I'll let anyone who knows her call her Lee, but the rest of y'all have to suffer through the spelling of Dubhchobhlaigh, especially because the pronunciation isn't as hard as the spelling, so your character's probably wouldn't struggle.)
Alias: N/A
Gender: female
Age: she's existed since sometime in the 14th century and looks to be in her late twenties.
Appearance: Dubhchobhlaigh has very white skin and pale blue eyes with shoulder length silvery-white hair. She tries to keep her hair tidy, and is often combing it, but it usually ends up messy. She's a little short and is rather pretty. Her limbs are rather skinny and she had rather hollow cheekbones, which combine with cheekbones to make her look a little ghostly (almost accurate). She has constant red eyes, like she's always fresh from crying.
She tends to wears loose fitting grey clothing.
Irregular Appearance: her hair acts like flames, moving and flickering. Parts of her body become intangible, sometimes it's her whole body. She becomes even more white, like she is totally lacking colour. Somehow her clothes stay on, she says it's due to heavy enchantments.
Species: Irregular: the banshee (specifically of the O'Neill family), a fairy that warns others of death or danger.
Role: human hugger, unstable: even if she can't interact with humans often, Dubhchobhlaigh treats them as she would an Irregular. This would be human-hugging enough, but she protected the O'Donnell's, a human family, for years upon years, and warned some of the Dullahan's approach so he would blind them in his angry hunt. Though her relic helps her somewhat, her powers are pretty unstable. If she gets a vision of the future, parts of her turn intangible and the relic is kinda useless. Her powers also make it hard for her to blend in, as she could be struck by a vision at any time.
Powers:
- Precognition: Dubhchobhlaigh gets visions of death and danger. The closer she is to someone, the more likely she'll get visions predicting danger in their life.
- Her screams can be heard from very long distances away if she wants them too.
- Ghostly physiology: despite being a faerie, she'd more like a ghost. She doesn't age and can't be killed, and can turn intangible.
Relic: grey glasses without the lenses. In bad cases of intangibility, her face tends to be the last thing to turn intangible, so it was wisest to put her grounding mechanism on her face.
Personality: It's in her nature to protect people. She can't fight at all, but she can warn people - so that's what she does. She likes doting over someone and finds herself adoring people to easily. She's a good listener, and tries her best to give advice. Her need to help people got her to open Sábháilte, a place where Irregulars could come to hide for a bit, be respected and be listened to, or to stay if they have nowhere else to go. She doesn't hold any of the bias against humans that most Irregular's do, as though some people think banshees are bad, the family she looked after had an entire room in their castle made up for her to stay and treated her with respect. Though she likes to protect people, she wouldn't stand up to someone attacking someone else unless she was really close to them and even then she probably would be reluctant to make a move. She doesn't oppose anyone, she just warns people of danger. She does try to push people in the right direction though. An example of which would be her friendship with the headless horseman, Toirdhealbhach. She made friends with at the height of his murderous rampages and eventually wore him down so that he only targeted those who were guilty of crimes. She likes to slowly change people's minds, and that'll be the only action she takes. She doesn't really care about right and wrong, just about protecting those that she likes.
Strengths:
- her screams are loud enough to heard peoples ears sometimes
- Prepared for danger?
Weaknesses:
- usually can't control her intangibility
- Her screams are tied to her precognition. When she gets the visions, she'll sing or scream blood murder or cry or something. She can't predict stuff silently. It's embarrassing.
- With her constant keening and intangibility, she can hardly ever visit the 'human world'.
- Very weak. Can't fight at all.
Fears:
- danger and death to those she loves
- Losing tangibility forever
- Loosing purpose: she already abandoned her family, she feels like she'll one day abandon helping Irregulars for one reason or another and dreads it.
Backstory: Dubhchobhlaigh was the banshee of the O'Neill family, and was treated with a fair amount of respect. She loved the family, but eventually it grew too big for her to look after and get to know all of them. She moved past them and found Toirdhealbhach, who had killed some of the O'Neills before. She made friends with him and mellowed him out a little. When he bought a castle in BhaileSráidbhaile, she went with him. She lived in the castle for a bit, and after seeing how frequently the Irregulars were in danger, she set up Sábháilte as a safe place for Irregulars.
Other:
- runs Sábháilte
- Friends with the Dullahan, Toirdhealbhach.
- Will want to adopt you after approximately 0.5 seconds of meeting you.
