Part 27
It had been two days since Arnav and Khushi had the talk and they cleared their misunderstandings, after Arnav left from Khushi's place that day, he made quite a few changes in his life. First thing first, he got a haircut and got back to what his hair was originally like, he shaved off his long beard and groomed up once again.
He had been so mad at himself since he found out Khushi's version of the truth, he couldn't just believe that he punished her so badly for something she had never done. When he looked back at just the first week of their marriage, the way she had been so innocent, just asking for tiny gestures that could make her feel loved and instead he gave her the most horrible experience of her life, he felt like punching himself in the face for it.
Anjali had always been right about Khushi, she was a great person, she was the perfect girl for him, he just took forever to notice it, and now that he had noticed it, it was too late.
He kept on staring outside at the clear sky from the window of his room feeling guilty as hell, for the past two days, the thoughts kept recurring in his mind and he hated himself for being so heartless.
If currently he was feeling so much pain realizing how he had treated her, he couldn't imagine the pain she must have gone through when it happened to her, seeing all her dreams get shattered by the man she loved.
"Why Arnav why!" He punched the wall angrily.
This guilt was just eating him up, he couldn't stop thinking about Khushi and how hurt she was and it was all because of his stupid misunderstanding, he should have known better.
"You were right Anjali, she was the perfect girl ever, she was the only girl that could love me like you did and would have been there for me after you left, but I pushed her away. You were right when you said that she was the girl I could fall for because I did.
Despite all the hatred I had for her, she somehow managed to create a soft corner in my heart, she managed to make me fall in love with her, and the funny part is, I can't tell her that now, because I clearly don't deserve her." He fell down on his knees as he tried really hard not to cry, he had been such a strong person always, the only time he remembered crying was when his mother left and then when Anjali left.
But today, he felt so broken, he felt like crying out loud because he was in love with a girl he never deserved, because he treated her like crap and did everything he could to get rid of her, and he dint deserve forgiveness for what he did.
Look at the irony of fate, he had fallen in love with the girl that he was so adamant on getting rid of, and when he got rid of her was when he realized how much he loved her.
It was true wasn't it, too often we don't realize the importance of something until it's gone.
Deep down he always knew he had started liking her, and he knew he was in trouble after they got separated. Not one of his days had passed without him thinking of her and wondering what she was doing, or if she was okay or not.
Not one day had passed without him hoping that someday, he was going to meet her again, and when he did, the peace he felt inside his heart was enough to make him realize the truth, the truth that he was in love with the girl he had hated all this while.
He just dint want to accept it, why would he fall for someone he hated right? It just dint make sense. It wasn't possible.
But well, fate played its game, he did fall for her, even when Rohan asked him that day, he knee that he was in love with her, he just dint let himself admit it.
He knew how much strength it must have taken for Khushi to make the decisions she made, for her to finally move on in life and start a fresh, she deserved this fresh start, she deserved to move on and he wasn't going to pull her back from any of it by telling her how he felt towards her.
It was better if she thought he dint love her, that way, it would be easier for her. All he wanted was to make things better for her, to make things light and happy, to show he what she actually deserved, and once he was done with it, he would go away from her life, this time for good.
He stood up, straightened his tie and made sure he dint look like he was sad or broken or anything and then he headed out of the house.
*****
He stood outside Khushi's house nervously, he dint even know if he was going to find her, maybe she had already left for work, but he hoped she hadn't, that's why he decided to show up early.
He pressed the doorbell button and waited for her to open the door, it took a while but she finally opened the door.
"Arnav." She looked at him in surprise.
"I'm sorry I came without calling or anything. Were you heading somewhere?" He asked as he looked at her from head to toe, she was dressed in a beautiful maroon dress, she had her heels already put on and she even seemed like she was trying to hurry.
"Yeah, I have a breakfast meeting."
"Will you be free after that? I need to talk?" Arnav asked.
"Yeah sure. How about I give you a call once I'm done with the meeting?"
"Sounds perfect. I'll see you later then." He smiled faintly and turned around to leave, he pressed the elevator button and waited for it.
"Arnav, is everything okay?" Khushi asked, she was still standing where she had been, he turned and looked at her and smiled as he nodded.
"Yeah, better than ever."
"Okay, can you hold the elevator, I was just leaving, I need to grab my bag and lock the house?"
"Sure." He nodded as Khushi rushed back inside and got her stuff quickly as Arnav waited for her, once she was done locking the house, they both got inside the elevator and headed down.
"I must say, you have achieved quite a lot in the past months." Arnav said as he looked at her proudly.
"Well a girl has to survive in this world anyhow, and Rohan helped a lot." She said.
"It's good to have a friend like that isn't it?"
"Yeah it is." Khushi nodded as they walked out of the elevator, they waved goodbye to each other and then headed to their cars and drove off. Arnav decided to go to office to do some work until Khushi got done with her meeting.
*****
After Khushi's meeting was done and she had some free time, she called Arnav and they decided to meet at a park that was nearby her office.
When she walked to the park, she found Arnav seated on the bench there waiting for her, he was seated silently staring up at the sky, he seemed so peaceful.
She sat down beside him, when he noticed her, he looked at her and smiled at her as she smiled back at him.
"For a moment there, you seemed so peaceful." Khushi said.
"I lost my peace at a very young age Khushi, so it's after ages that I can actually just sit and think about nothing. Who knew peace felt this good?" he said as he looked back up at the sky.
"So... what did you want to talk about?" Khushi asked.
"You gave me my peace back, I want to do the same for you in return. You saw a side of Arnav Raizada that no one else ever saw, I just want you to know that, that side of him wasn't the actual him. I took your peace away, I know I've left you questioning a lot of things, I just want to make it better for you.
When you told me the truth, I dint even know how to apologize to you Khushi. I... I treated you so badly and I know nothing I do or say will ever be enough to earn your forgiveness but I just want to do something to make your life better, after all I was the one that ruined it." Arnav looked at her seriously.
"Arnav I don't..."
"I am not trying to ask you to come back in my life Khushi, don't worry, I know you deserve better. I just need a week with you, just to repent for the things I did, so that I can forgive myself for the things I did. I promise it would be completely casual, I won't touch you or anything if that's what you are worried about. By the end of the week you'll realize why I asked you for the week and after that I promise it would be the last time you'll see Arnav Raizada."
"You don't have to do anything for me Arnav."
"I have to, I can't just let it go like that, I was horrible to you and I have to make things better. If you're worried that I would try to convince you to get back together with me then I promise I won't."
"It's not that Arnav... it's just. It still hurts. Every time I look at you, my mind goes back to that day, all I can see is you and Lavanya on our bed. It just breaks my heart over and over again." Khushi said sadly.
"I understand Khushi, and I am not trying to justify what I did but if the truth will make you feel better like your truth made me feel better then I'll tell you the truth.
I mean yes I dated Lavanya before we got married but we broke up when Anjali wanted me to get married to you, nothing happened between us that day, I just brought her home, told her to lie down beside me so you would think something happened between us. I promise I dint even touch her. I just... hated you so much all I wanted was for you to leave me, since the day I got married to you Khushi, all I wanted was you to leave me and I did everything I could to get rid of you. All you saw was just a fake drama so you could leave me. I promise Anjali to get married to you, it was her last wish and I dint want to break it my leaving you so I had to do whatever it took for you to leave me. I am sorry for it Khushi, I am really sorry for everything I did to hurt you.
I can get it that you don't want to do this and you don't have to, I just thought it was a better way of me repenting for my mistakes and trying to make you feel better, but if me staying away from you is going to make you feel better then that's what I will do. I am really very sorry, I hope someday you'll find it in you to forgive me and I hope you don't stop believing in the love you did because of me. There are so many better men than me out there, I hope when you find someone like that, you will give him the chance. I hope after these, you will find the peace that I found. I am sorry once again, for everything terrible I did to you." He sighed as he stood up and started walking towards his car while Khushi stayed seated on the bench thinking things through.
"Arnav wait." She called him out as she stood up and walked towards him.
"Yeah?"
"Let's do this. You have seven days with me, no trying to win me back or anything, just us doing whatever you have in your mind." Khushi said.
"Thanks, what made you change your mind?" Arnav looked at her curiously.
"The Arnav I knew when I was a kid, he was my friend, he wasn't heartless, he cared for me. This is for that Arnav."
"Thank you Khushi, I promise you won't regret it." Arnav smiled happily.
