Chapter 31- The necklace
Derek pulled into the driveway of my house and I got out.
"Thank you for the ride. I really appreciate it." I smiled at him as I took my seatbelt off.
"It's no problem. Just trying to make sure you get home safe." He nodded.
"Well thank you." I laughed "it's always nice to know someone cares about me."
Derek fell silent.
"Well, n-not to assume that you care about me or anything. If you don't that's fine, I'm not trying to act like I'm high and mighty, I just- with the way you look out for me I... nevermind. Forget I said anything."
Derek just smirked at me.
"What?" I asked irritated.
"Nothing, why don't you keep doing that pouty face. It's cute."
I rolled my eyes and sat back in my seat.
"Whatever."
"Hey." He poked.
"What?" I ask looking at him.
He opened his mouth to say something but he couldn't get it out.
"What is it?"
Still no answer. I waited for him to say something but nothing came out.
"Can I ask you something personal?" I asked.
He nodded and I looked at him.
"Do you love me?"
Derek seemed thrown off balance by the question.
"Like... I don't know. Just the way you act with me isn't your personality and you don't act the same around everyone else. So I don't know, I guess I'm just curious."
He still hadn't said anything and so I was getting nervous.
"If I just completely misread everything that's okay too. Just tell me."
Silence.
"Derek, if you don't say something in two seconds I will leave this car and never talk to you again."
I'm an instant, Derek leaned over and pressed his lips to mine.
I slowly put my hands on his face and kissed him back.
"I mean that's not really saying anything but I'll take it." I mumbled as he moved away from me. I looked at him in confusion "Did you mean to do that? Like are you actually in love with me?"
"I did and I am. I just don't have a way with words. I don't do well with feelings but I try. The only way I could tell you how I feel was by kissing you. I hope you don't mind."
"N-no! I definitely do mind! I mean- I don't mind that you kissed me but I mind because I... I liked it." I started to blush in the dark.
"Good." Derek simply stated.
"W-well, I should probably head inside. I need to be in a protected place so no witches come for me."
"Okay, call me later tonight okay? I want to talk to you more."
"O-okay. Bye."
"Bye."
I got out and walked into my house. Hudson was siting in the doorway when I got in.
"So, wanna tell me what you and Derek were talking about in the car?"
"Hudson, it was one little kiss."
"Doesn't seem so little to me with how red your face is."
"Are you mad?"
"Mad? Of course not! I just want to know all the juicy details."
I scoff and slap him over the head.
"Shut up you rat!" I laughed. I jogged up the stairs and into my bathroom.
"I may be a rat but at least I'm not a hoe!" He threw back.
"Oh good one! At least I can get people!" I could hear him seething below me but he never spat anything back at me after that one.
I took a bath and watched as my necklace glowed.
"This always glows when a witch is around me. And they've never gotten to me before. I wonder if I am restricted because I'm a witch too. Or can witches be trapped in the barrier?" I looked up at the ceiling and growled "god I have so many questions."
I got out of the bath and put on comfy clothes. I sat on my bed and called Derek.
He answered after a short ring and happily said hello.
"Hey, just calling cause you asked me to earlier."
It had reached about midnight and I was dead tired. Derek was busy explaining something about werewolf powers and I wanted to fall asleep.
I got cozy in my bed and thought I'd just rest my eyes.
Soon the sound of his voice faded and I fell into a dream.
"No!"
"Ru-"
A blade was thrusted upright into an abdomen.
A scream rang through the dense air.
"I gotta get..." the voice that was speaking faded out
A hand braced on a tree and smeared blood on it.
"Please don't kill me!" A lady cried as she was held to weapon point.
A scream of an older woman rang out.
I woke up with a sweat and a shaky body. I looked at my phone 4:15 am. I sighed and wiped my forehead. I realized that Derek must have seem home fall asleep so he hung up.
I texted him just to make sure he was okay. He didn't answer back, meaning he was asleep, so I laid back down and drifted off back to dream land.
I was woken up by my phone buzzing.
"Hello?" I asked groggily.
"Come to my house, we have to figure out a plan to stop these witches and we need you. Be here in 15."
Scott hung up and I rolled out of bed. I got ready quickly and went to Scott's house.
Stiles was okay and I made sure of it.
We got down to the nitty gritty of it.
"Have you guys heard about my necklace?" I just realized as i played with it.
"No what about it?" Liam asked.
"It's a barrier spell. It possess the magic to keep witches away from me. I just remembered I was going to tell you guys but I forgot. I had these questions about it."
Everyone looked intrigued so I carried on.
"So I was looking at my necklace and I was wondering if I was able to be stopped with it because I'm a witch."
"Well let's try it."
Scott took the necklace and held it in his hand.
"What do I do?"
"Say salvum me and hold your hand out."
"Salvum me."
The barrier blew up and I stepped closer to it.
I put my hand out and touched it. My hand slipped right through.
"I wonder why I can go through it but other witches can't."
"Maybe because you weren't put in the bathing ritual." Hudson chimed in.
"That's true. Maybe it's because I'm not identified as a witch. I still posses the ability to do magic because of my blood, but I don't have a big red flag on me that says 'witch'."
"What's the bathing ritual?" Stiles asked.
"It's basically how witches are "purified" when they are babies. Once they reach a certain age, they have to be bathed in lavender, charcoal and elder witches blood in order to be deemed a witch, but y/n was never bathed. Her mom didn't want her to be a witch because she knew everything that would happen."
"Right, you've told us that before. And how your dad sacrificed himself for you." Stiles reminded.
"But then I was also wondering if witches could be trapped in the barrier, but since I can't be trapped out of it, I can't test if I could be trapped in it."
Everyone mumbled or groaned.
"Anyway, I think we should spend the rest of the day theorizing on how to stop this."
"Good idea, I'll let my mom know." Scott nodded.
