Episode 8: Locks...? The Hell?
* Metallica's POV: *
"Get away from me!"
He laughed evilly.
"Oh, dear. It appears that you've been hurt."
"No! Stay away from me! No!"
"Momma!"
"Oh, well hello there, little Kysta."
"Bastard! You keep yer nasty hands offa my child!"
"She's mine, too!"
"Papa?"
"Come here, Kysta."
"No! Baby, don't listen to 'em!"
"Momma? Papa?"
"Baby, c'mere! Please!"
He snatched her wrist, easily bruising her pale skin.
"Nathan! Let my child go! Now!"
"Papa! Ow, you're hurting me!"
"Shut up, you stupid kid!"
Smack!
His hand slapped across Kysta's face, and I let out a furious growl. Kysta screamed, salty tears falling down her cheeks as Nathan dropped her. She ran back over to me, clutching my ragged shirt in her tiny hands. I allowed the little 7 year old to cry on my shoulder, all the while glaring at the man in front of me.
Before I could react, however, he snatched Kysta out of my arms, and slammed her into the wall. A pained scream fell from her lips.
"No!"
"Shut up, whore!"
Nathan rammed his boot into my stomach, and I coughed up blood.
Suddenly, I felt these powerful vibrations. I shakily forced my head up to look at Nathan, but my eyes widened at the growing black sphere in his hands. A Lost Magic.
"Nathan! What the hell're you doin'?! Stop! You'll kill 'er!"
"... I know. Say goodbye, Metallica."
My breathing hitched, and I sat frozen, the sound of my chains rattling in my ears. When I finally snapped out of it, I was already too late.
"Kysta!"
"Momma!"
He fired.
She collapsed onto her knees, and I scrambled to catch her before she fully fell. Somehow, someway, I snapped the enchanted chains.
She fell into my awaiting arms, and I hugged her feather-like body to mine.
"Kysta! Baby, stay with me!" I yelled, and frantically tried to stop the blood that was never-ending. Her chocolate brown eyes were now dull, and loosing their shine. She lifted a shaky hand to my cheek, a smile on her lips.
"M-Momma...," She choked out, and I shushed her as I placed my bloody hand on hers. Her blood.
"No, no, baby. Don't talk. Momma's right 'ere. Yer gonna be alright," I whispered to her, but not even I believed my own words.
"Gomenasai, momma. I didn't want to make you cry," She murmured, and wiped my falling tears. I shook my head.
"It's not chu, baby. I'm alright, and you'll be, too. Just hang in there."
"I love you, momma."
"I love ya, too, baby."
"I'm going to be with my real momma now."
"What? Baby, no. I'm right 'ere. Don't go. Stay 'ere. With me. C'mon, Kysta, please!"
Her brown eyes shut completely, and her hand fell limp in my grasp, along with her tiny body.
My eyes widened, and more tears fell.
"Wait, Kysta. Don't go. Kysta. Kysta! KYSTA!"
"KYSTA!"
I shot up in the bed I was sitting on, a wet cloth falling into my lap. I stared down at it, not being able to comprehend what the hell just happened to me.
"Metallica?"
I glanced up through my hair, and was met with a pair of red eyes that matched mine.
"G-Gajeel?" My voice cracked as a familiar pain and emptiness filled my chest. Tears swelled in my eyes as I looked into his, and my lips began to quiver.
Gajeel stood up from the chair he was sitting in beside me, and wrapped his arms tightly around me. My tears cascaded down my cheeks as I thought back to my dream - no, memory - and I sobbed into his shirt.
"H-He took her from me, Gajeel," I cried, and he hugged me tighter to him.
"I know, baby sis."
"Why? She didn't do anythin'."
"I know."
There was silence, aside from my soft sobs that racked through my body, until there was the creaking sound of a door opening.
"Metallica-chan?"
My head snapped up, and I was met with a little dark blue-haired girl and brown eyes.
Memories flashed in my eyes, before I finally remembered who it was.
"Cloudy."
Wendy ran to the bed I was on, and launched herself at me. I caught her in my arms, and hugged her to my aching chest.
"Gomenasai, Metallica-chan," Wendy cried. I shook my head, and pulled her away so that I could look at her. I lifted my thumb to her cheeks, and wiped her tears away.
"Don't be. Ya have nothin' to be sorry for," I placed a small kiss to her forehead, before turning to Gajeel.
"I'm sorry, Metallica. If I wouldn't've-," I cut him off by smacking him upside the head. He fell off the bed, and landed on the floor with a thud.
"Ow! What the hell?! Wait, I deserved that..." I rolled my eyes.
"Hell yeah, ya did. But I forgive ya. Now what kinda 'shit' went down, that ya forgot about yer own sister for 7 years?"
"He didn't forget. A group of us got trapped on Fairy Tail's sacred island, Tenrou, and The Black Dragon showed up, along with Grimoire Heart and The Black Wizard. We had war, and Acnologia 'destroyed' the island, when really our first master, Mavis, cast a spell, before recovering and releasing us from the spell 7 years later."
My head turned to the doorway, and I saw quite a big group of people standing there. A red haired woman had spoken.
"It's awesome to have ya back, Metallica," A man with a metal mask on his face stuck his tongue out.
I remained silent for a minute as memories flashed, before I sorta remembered them.
"Erza, Bixlow...," I trailed off, and they seemed confused.
"I think that lucky shot messed with my head a lil'. It'll take awhile before I 'member everythin'," I shrugged, and Natsu(?) scoffed.
"Another reason why I should track his ass down," He grumbled, but then grinned at me. Suddenly, he dashed at me, and crushed me in a hug.
"Metallica!" He yelled, and sat next to Wendy on the bed. He went on to tell me what I missed, which wasn't a lot. It kinda reminded me of the Great Depression.
"We're glad you're alright, Metallica-chan!" Levy squealed, and Gajeel barely smiled. I caught him out of the corner of my eye.
Before anyone could say something else, a searing pain exploded in my chest.
"Shit!" I gasped, and clutched my chest. I squeezed my eyes shut, and staggered out of the bed. When the sheets fell, I did, too. My knees slammed against the floor, but I held my ground. Sorta.
"Metallica!" Gajeel exclaimed, and tried to reach for me.
"Wait! Stop! Ya can't touch me!" I gasped desperately, and that's when an authoritative presence entered the room.
"Leave her be, Gajeel. She has to work through this. Porlyusica's orders," The Old Man came in, and stood in front of the group.
"Master?"
"Gramps?"
"What the hell's that supposed to mean, Old Man?!"
"Gajeel! Shut it!" I screamed, grabbing all of their attention again. I clutched my chest harder, and growled.
"I'll kill him," I hissed, and stared down at the wooden floors.
'Kysta.'
I felt myself slip away, and a new me waken.
My eyes shifted, and became sharper.
I know what's happening.
"Damn yer stupid Awakening Magic!" I screamed, and forced the 'lock' back on that part of myself. It took awhile, but I finally had it in place. My breathing was coming out in pants, and I slowly stumbled to my feet. I turned to face everyone, and winced when I felt a burning come from my chest. I unwrapped the top half, and growled at what I saw.
My 5 'Locks'.
'Dragon Slayers.'
What? But there's only 4 that I know, and there's 5 'locks'.
'They Fall, You Fall.'
Shut up, stupid!
'Say Goodbye.'
"Metallica?"
I snapped out of what I was thinking about, and looked up at all of them. I shut my eyes, before reopening them.
My eyes locked with all of the Dragon Slayers in the room, before I walked over to Wendy.
"Cloudy, can you turn your back to me for a minute?"
Wendy stared at me confused, before doing as I asked and turning around on the bed. I pulled the shirt collar down, where it revealed the back of her neck. There it was; the 'lock' of the crescent moon. (The one on the very left)
Next, I walked over to Natsu. I repeated the process, but moved his waist coat out of the way. That, on his right side, exposed the other crescent moon. (The one on the very right)
Then I did Gajeel. This time, though, I checked his stomach. The Right Half Moon. (On the Right. Obviously)
Lastly, was Laxus. He was sweating hard as I approached him, and uneasily leaned back when I got within arm's reach. I grabbed his left arm, flipped it over, and nodded when I saw the Left Half Moon on the middle of his forearm. (Left side. Again, Obviously)
"What the hell are you doin'?" Laxus asked, astonished that something like this was on him. I gave a sigh, and flopped back onto the bed.
"Wait, where am I?" I asked the question aloud, and everyone chuckled, or giggled.
"Fairy Tail's Dormitory Nurse's Office. That's a mouthful," Lucy giggled, and they laughed along with her. I gave a curt nod, and sat up.
"So what are these marks? Tell me I'm not the only one that noticed that they're only on the Dragon Slayers," Evergreen piped up from beside Laxus, and stared intently at the lock.
"Long story-"
"We got time. Spill," Gajeel persisted, and I groaned.
"Fine. But I'll have to start from the beginning."
"Then shoot."
I breathed in deeply, before slowly releasing it.
"When Shadow Stock took me, was the time it all started. Sounds so cliche, it's sickenin'," I shook my head before continuing, "I was a lil' girl, and that was the first time that I had been beaten up. In awhile, at least. Anyway, when I was taken away from Gajeel, I was basically a lab rat. Those Star Wars wanna-be's performed tests on me; givin' me these Lacrima and forcin' me to fight these man-eatin' beasts. It was hard, since the bastards didn't feed me well. So I was practically starved."
I stared up at the ceiling as I began, my arms stretched behind my head.
"Aside from that, I was beaten up for 2 years. 'Ventually, they slowed down from everyday of every month and year, to just one a month. That was when Kysta came."
The room went silent as I mentioned my deceased daughter, but I didn't react like I would've. I think I'm under some calm spell or somethin'.
"She was 5 then, and I took care of 'er. She seemed to like it; me treatin' her like a daughter and all. After a month, she started callin' me 'er momma. I felt happy, for the first time in those years that I was there. Other than when I was with him."
"Who's... Him?" I heard Lucy whisper cautiously, and I sat up to look at her. My face was void of any emotion, and I could tell that scared 'em.
"Nathan."
"Woah, woah, woah. Back the hell up. Nathan? That bastard that almost damn well killed ya?" Gajeel interjected. I turned my head to face him, and nodded.
"Yeah. He wasn't originally like that. Nathan was also a prisoner lab rat. But, he was a good person. Until they corrupted his mind. At least, that's what I believed.
One day, they took 'im back to the room where they beat everyone. He was in there for hours, until finally he came out. His usual hopeful eyes were dull, like they'd stripped 'im of his life. He looked perfectly fine. He even had a new set of clothes. It was like he wasn't ever beaten.
He walked into mine and Kysta's cell that he used ta share with us. Kysta saw 'im as a dad, and saw us as one small nakama. But he betrayed her. He betrayed me." I finally showed an emotion; Grief.
"It's cheesy and pathetic to admit, but yeah. I loved 'im. And then he had ta go and kill my last source of happiness. He used the magic that almost killed me. It's a Lost Magic by the name of Death Stone. There's only one other survivor that had lived to tell about the after effects, and that was Shadow Stock's Master, Frax," I had laid back down on the hospital bed, and had my arm draped over my eyes to keep the tears from falling.
"What are the after effects?" Erza encountered, and I shrugged.
"These locks."
"Locks...? The hell?" Laxus questioned, and once again, I sat back up. I blinked back the tears, and nodded.
"The tattoos. I have five of 'em, and you have one. You have the left half moon, right? On your arm?" He gave a slow, freaked out nod.
"Gajeel has the other half on his belly, Wendy has one of the crescent moons on the back of her neck, and Natsu has the other one on his right side."
Everyone looked freaked out, now.
"W-Wait. That's only 4. Who has the 5th one?"
"How the hell am I supposed to know? I guess we'll find out!" I stood up, and stretched, revealing the 5 moons on the top of my chest. They stared at them, and I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, what do these locks do, anyway?" Natsu suddenly spoke up after they just kinda watched me get dressed.
"Eh, they keep my magic sealed up. If ya go down, then these locks break. So Imma give ya some advice; Don't. Go. Down," I growled, my eyes in harsh slits, "or else yer riskin' everyone's lives. The magic that's sealed up is a dangerous Lost Magic that shouldn't exist. But, we all know that wouldn't happen because a certain wizard possesses this magic. It's uncontrollable."
"What magic is it? Who possesses it?"
"The Great Black Wizard Zeref. Death Magic."
