Chapter 21
I stepped into the entrance of the school ballroom and gasped.
It was like stepping into a fairy tale. Mostly Cinderella though.
There were two sets of long winding stairs on either side of the entrance, and then in the middle was a big grand staircase leading up to the same platform balcony the other two sets of stairs went to, and into the ballroom.
It was amazing!
I'd never been in here before.
The ballroom ceiling had little hanging lantern lights hanging from it.
The walls were covered with a soft silky black material with star like embellishments on it.
There were pillars lining the floor all white and gorgeous.
In the front was a DJ stand. On the sides were tables. In the middle was the dancefloor.
On my left, Piper and Jason were looking magnificent together, arms locked together, Piper with her turquoise dress and her wrist was adorned with a white snowy corsage. Jason had on a black suit with a turquoise vest and tie that match his eyes.
On my right, Frank was standing awkwardly with Hazel. Hazel had on a gorgeous gold dress that brought out her eyes. Nico was also there, wearing a black tux with a black tie.
"Well let's go have some fun..?"
Pipers suggestion sounded more like she was giving herself a death sentence, which was true because I was sure none of us really wanted to be here.
"Hey wheres Leo?" Hazel asked.
"Oh he's DJing." Jason replied.
As if on cue, a familiar brown curly haired Latino popped up from behind the stand.
"Wassup meh peeps?"
His question was answered with cheers and a couple of boos.
"Whatever! You know you love me! Anyways... our first song is Pompeii by Bastille."
After that the bass starting pounding out the music really loud, and people made their way to the dance floor, pumping their fists.
Eheu eh-o eheu eh-o
Suddenly Travis and Connor ran past laughing, followed by an angry Lou Ellen, with pink paint splattered all over her black dress.
I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to show
And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above
I sat there for a moment, enjoying the song, but then decided to join everybody else including my friends dancing.
But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
I was actually having fun, dancing with everyone on the dance floor, certainly not in sync but still having fun.
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settled around us
And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above
But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
Eheu eh-o eheu eh-o [x4]
Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
Oh oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
And the walls kept tumbling down (oh where do we begin?)
In the city that we love (the rubble or our sins?)
Great clouds roll over the hills (oh where do we begin?)
Bringing darkness from above (the rubble or our sins?)
But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
If you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
Eheu eh-o eheu eh-
The song ended and I gasped for breath. It was fun, dancing like that. I didn't even care who saw me.
I made my way through the sweaty bodies and to the drinks. I grabbed the closet cup and started downing it.
The next song started, Sail. It was one of my favorite songs.
When I finished drinking, I looked around. I had lost my friends through the noise and people.
I decided to go sit at one of the tables and observe everybody.
I saw Drew sitting with her gossipy friends, wearing skimpy dresses.
Katie and Travis were dancing, well actually Katie was trying to dance with Travis bugging her. Those two should get together.
Reyna was talking with some people, I think Gwen and Dakota, who were here together.
Reyna had on a pretty purple dress. She looked gorgeous and mature.
Then I heard a voice.
"Hey."
I looked up, surprised to see Percy standing there, hands in pockets and a green tie that matched his eyes.
"Hi."
"What are you doing over here all alone?"
"Just sitting."
"Oh."
We stood there in silence for a minute, then I asked Percy something.
"Don't you have a date? Say... Reyna or someone?"
He chuckled lightly.
"Well no.... not really..."
Oh.
That was the moment Leo decided to "slow it down" by playing "All of Me" by John Legend.
"So... do- do you want to dance?"
I looked up, surprised. Had I just heard Percy Jackson stutter?
"Sure.."
"O-kay."
Yep definitely a stutter. But why?
He led me out to the floor, and then put his hands on my shoulders.
I smiled to myself, then leaned forward and whispered to him.
"That's the girls position."
He turned a slight shade of red, then put his hands in the correct position.
We swayed together to the music, it was nice.
I could feel many pairs of eyes on us, many burning gazes filled with jealousy.
I leaned in closer to Percy, trying to avoid the stares.
"So."
"So."
"So..."
"Maybe so could be our always?"
I rolled my eyes up at him.
"You seriously read that book?"
"What? Boys can't read good literature too?"
I stared at him, surprised he had used such a big word.
"Well, I would just refer to it as a a romance novel..."
"Clearly you aren't a TFIOS fan then."
"TFI.. what?"
"The Fault in Our Stars."
Oh. That explained alot.
The song ended, and we both reluctantly went back to my seat.
We sat in silence, observing people.
It was nice.
"Yo Perce!"
A voice suddenly cut through the comfort, like a knife through butter. I tried to identify the voice, but I couldnt. It was some boy.
"Yeah?"
"You wanna go out to the back? I they have shots out there? Drew snuck them in!"
Percy pursed his lips, and looked a bit thoughtful for a moment.
"Nah thanks man."
My eyes widened, why had he turned him down?
"You sure?"
I could tell the boy was saying an unspoken message, 'You reallly want to stay there with the weird new girl in the corner?'
Yeah.
I threw Percy a questioning look as soon as the boy went out of earshot.
"I don't really drink."
Nice.
I liked that fact. Most of the people sneaking those shots would most likely turn out like Helen some day...
"So you want to go get some fresh air?"
"Sure."
He led me through the masses of bodies, and out to a balcony.
The night wind was blowing all around us, adding to the chill factor, of winter.
I looked out to the schools perfect, polished lawn, shining in the moonlight.
I glanced over and saw Percy's knuckles gripping the railing tightly so tight, his knuckles were white.
"Fear of heights?"
He took a deep breath, then uttered out a yes.
"How come?"
"I don't know I've just always had this fear... I mean I'm fine in the sea or underground, or anywhere, but not heights."
"Yeah."
"I mean- everyone has to have a fear right? If you don't, I don't think that person really would have any compassion."
"I only have a couple of things I'm scared of."
"What are they?"
I took a deep breathe, then said, "One of them is spiders."
"Spiders...?"
"Mmh yeah. I hate them... they have those little beady eyes, and the way you can fell the hate radiating off them...."
"The other thing?"
I looked out to the forest for a minute, then said it.
"My stepmom..."
Percy had a questioning look on his face, like a puppy, no a baby seal.
"She- she treated me badly... I-my dad and other people didn't believe me. that's the main reason I'm here."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't say that. it's just really awkward when people say it, especially when it isn't even the person fault. It's a stupid thing to say."
I paused for a second then spoke again.
"You know I haven't told anyone else that..."
"Yeah?"
I looked up at Percy , he looked really handsome there, face in the moonlight, breath in front his face, from the winter chill. His green eyes looked like they were glowing and his unruly hair was as cute as always. My eyes traveled over him, with his black tie contrasting nicely with his skin, and finally decided to rest on his eyes.
He took a step forward, and leaned in.
I did too.
Then he kissed me.
AN: So I edited as promised :p. Sorry about the typos from before I was sleepy and really wanted to update. Thanks for all your support guys. You guys are the only reason I've made it this far. Thanks. Also, 4 MORE DAYS TILL SCHOOL IS OUT FOR ME. Well, hopefully. I don't know if I'll have to take any semester tests or not.
Yours in demigodishness, and all that. Peace out.
