Before the class started, I ran to my dorm and dropped off my backpack. Then I went to class.

The class was held in an arena type place, with racks full of armor, shields, and very sharp looking weapons.

The teacher was a man in a wheelchair. He said his name was Mr. Brunner.

There were many people gathered around, Percy, Jason, Piper, Leo, Reyna and many others.

Then class started.

"First, we will practice by competing with each other. I will pair you up and then you may go pick up your weapon."

I scooted over to Piper and started asking her what to do.

"We get paired up and we spar. We have to pick up our weapon of choice over there. Once we pick it, we own it and use it most of the time, except for when we're training with other weapons. You can spar with a wooden weapon, if you like since it's your first time and your partner has to too."

"Tell me why we do this again..."

"Well partly to channel our energy, partly for self defense, and partly for competion."

"Competition?"

Piper hadn't mentioned anything about competition.

"Hmm? Yeah we go to tournaments and we compete with other schools, like the Titans."

The Titans? The name sent chills down my spine.

"Oh."

"Piper and Annabeth, you two are paired up."

I looked away from Piper to the teacher. He was smiling at us.

Piper grabbed my wrist and pulled it over to the weapons rack.

"Today we can spar with wooden weapons, if you like. Let's pick out your weapon first though."

I looked at the rack, it had sharp bronze swords, or spears, bows, and arrows.

Then I saw something in the knife section.

It was a bronze knife, in a sheath, with an intricate handle.

I picked it up and unsheathed it.

It felt perfect in my hand, like and extension.

"I choose this one."

"Good choice."

Piper smiled at me then went over to the wooden weapons rack and picked out two knives.

Then she tossed one to me.

I attached my real knife to my belt and held the wooden dagger in my hand: 12 inches of pure wood.

Piper and I faced each oter. We got into position. I got into one with my knife in front of me while I was sideways, facing her.

Piper faced me, and her defense was open a lot because she held her knife to the side. I decided on a strategy. I would charge her and try to get past her at the open spot, and I had also noticed she had been limping slightly on her right side.

I took a deep breath, then charged.

I lunged for her left side and she blocked then I switched and stabbed at the right side.

She saw the trick but it was a second off and I managed to get in a hit.

Even though I had actually never sword fought before, it felt like instinct.

Then we backed off, and charged again.

She moved torwards the hilt of my sword, and I blocked with the blade part but she was more skilled than me and she got through my defenses.

We backed away, out of breath.

"Phew! That was really good for your first time! Good job Annabeth!"

"Thanks."

After we caught our breath, she sparred with me and showed me some moves.

When Mr.Brunner came over and watched us, then congratulated us, we stopped and put up our knifes.

"Thanks Piper. That was a really good session."

"No problem."

I was about to go back to my dorm, when I saw Percy run up to me.

He was really sweaty but still somehow cute.

"So, Annabeth... which room is yours?"

"Are you trying to stalk me or something?"

"No... You said that we were going to work on that project..."

I blushed, I had totally forgotten.

"Heh, just joking... It's room 54."

"What?! That's right across from my room, 53."

I stared at Percy in shock, I didn't know he was right across from me! Also, I probably would've noticed if he was.

"So... I guess do you want to work on it after dinner? We can just figure out things we need or the size of the volcano and stuff."

"Okay."

After that we walked back to my dorm, talking.
