As Jonah came back home driving he couldn't stop thinking about his interaction with Amy Wilkes that day. Isually girls giggled, smiled or even flirted back when he flirted. But not her. She looked nervous and seemed to pretend she didn't see him. Jonah sighed, it was the first time a girl wouldn't fall for him as fast as he thought.
He only had a girlfriend in all his life, Lauren Brown, and since then he didn't date anyone else. She left to Los Angeles, to pursue a modeling career, leaving him heartbroken as he had strong feelings for her.He would go out with other girls ocasionally, but nothing serious as no other girl made him feel the way he did with her.Until now. When he arrived home he was greeted by Natasha, their russian maid who was in the kitchen washing dishes.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Jonah."
Natasha was a woman in her mid thirties. She was tall, blonde, with brown eyes, very beautiful. More than a maid, Natasha was more like a mother to him when his mother died. She would always listen to him when he needed to talk, and always insist him to eat since he stopped eating when he had started practice.
"Hello Natasha. And just call me Jonah. I have told you that many times." He greeted her when he entered to the kitchen.
"It's a habit, i call your dad that way too. "
"But i'm not my dad, you know it. "
"I'll try, are you hungry? "
"Like a bear, would you like to join me?" Jonah asked.
"I wouldn't dare bother you. "
"Of course you're not bothering me, just sit next to me and let's talk about how our day has been. "
Natasha served two plates of her stew and sat next to Jonah.
"So, how was school?" She asked after taking a bite to her food.
"Pretty good, not really. I'm having trouble with a girl. "
"Really? You? I can't believe that." Natasha said raising an eyebrow.
"I'm serious. I flirted with her today and it didn't worked out in any way. "
"What did you do exactly?" Natasha asked interested.
"A guy i dislike spilled his drink on me and i went to my locker to change my shirt. I pull off my shirt when she was passing by, and asked her if she liked what she saw but she just walked and said nothing. "
"Interesting. "
"What's interesting?"
"Her reaction. From what you have told me girls usually flirt back when you flirt with them.
"I know. What are your thoughts on all this?"
"I have two theories on this. One, she may not be attracted to you. "
When Natasha said that Jonah had goosebumps, the idea of Amy not being attracted to him somehow caused him to be uncomfortable.
"And what's your other theory?"
"She's probably shy. Not all girls can show their feelings for a guy in the same way. When i was your age I couldn't even borrow a pen from the guy i liked. "
"That's hard to believe. You must have been very popular back in your days."
The conversation continued until both finished their plates. Two hours Jonah was doing his homework in his room when a knock was heard in his door. It was his father.
"Hello son. "
"Hey. " He answered not looking at him.
"I wanted to tell you that I checked my schedule and I will be able to go to your soccer game. "
Jonah heard that words many times that he lost count, and every time he believed them. However, with time he understood it was never going to happen, he would always say that to him, and an emergency dinner, meeting or trip occurred, and he would just get disappointed. Again.
"Great to know dad. " He answered laying his arm on the chair.
"Maybe we can go eat dinner later, would you like it? "
"Sure. "
Richard just left the room and Jonah went back to his homework. Jonah still couldn't understand how it was easier to him to speak with Natasha, who was not related to him in any way than with his own father.
Next day Amy and Sean arrived together to the principal's office, Mr. Hughes. Amy felt the looks of other students on them, especially the girls, they looked fascinated with Sean, as if they had never seen a guy in the school. She understood why, Sean was an attractive guy, and she wouldn't say it because he was her brother. Since he was younger, he would have feminine attention, and it wasn't different now. They both sat on the chairs in front of Mr. Hughes's desk.
"Come in, how can I help you?" Mr. Hughes asked.
"Good morning, my name is Sean Wilkes. My sister Amy was assaulted by another student yesterday. Her name is Jenna Stone. And it's not the first time. "
"What happened?" Mr. Hughes asked Amy.
"I was talking with my friend Dana; we were outside the bathroom when she went out and heard our conversation. She wanted me to answer something she heard, as she pushed me against the wall. Dana helped me pushing her away from me. "
"When did this happen?" Mr. Hughes asked.
"At the end of the day. " Amy answered.
"You said it was Jenna Stone?" He asked again.
"Yes. "
"Amy, I want to ask. Is there a chance everything was a misunderstanding?"
"Excuse me, how could pushing her could have been a misunderstanding?" Sean asked upset.
"She has never been involved in any trouble before, and her parents are quite a great help in the school. I need to know all the facts before accusing her. "
Amy knew everything would be a disaster by the way the conversation was happening, specially by seeing Sean's face. She nervously started playing with her fingers when she noticed that her right hand started disappearing. Hoping Sean or the principal didn't see her she quickly hid her hand behind her back.
"So, because the girl's parents are rich benefactors to this school, she can do whatever she wants?" Sean asked.
"Not at all, but I need to listen to be fair and listen to her side of the story too. "
"It is the second time she attacks my sister. The first time was during a P.E. class, she hitted her with a ball on the head, and now she pushed her to a wall. Next time my sister might as well appear with a black eye on her face." Sean said while holding the chair stands firmly.
"It could have been an accident; you know they happen. It's normal."
Sean checked his watch. It almost time for the classes to start. He didn't want Amy to lose class, so he asked her to go.
"Amy, go to class. I will speak alone to the principal. "
Amy grabbed her backpack and went outside. When he listened, the door being shut Sean spoke again in a very serious tone.
"Principal Hughes, if you don't want me to sue to this school you will handle this situation with my sister the way it is. "
"Sue? Why exactly?" The principal asked with a smirk on his face.
"The other parents may have forgotten already that the school is responsible for the accident at that lab, but I haven't. I had my sister at a hospital for two days and I had to pay all the expenses on my own. Now my sister is being attacked by a spoiled brat and you don't care, I have had enough with this school. If you don't take action about this girl I'll get the best lawyer i can, and sue this school for all the damage caused to my sister. And I might as well contact the other parents and tell them to join me after your neglectful attitude towards that incident. And i'm not joking. I know a couple that would gladly accept."
"Is that a threat?" He asked.
"See it as you wish, I really don't care. Have a great day, Mr. Hughes. " Sean said standing up and walking away.
As Amy walked to class, she looked at her hand. Her hand looked normal again after she calmed down, but she couldn't understand what happened. She first thought it was all a fake illusion, but apparently it wasn't. She tried to focus on something else as she entered to English class. Mr. Geller stand up and started his class.
"Good morning class, as you know this partial it's all about romance. So I'll be pairing you up to recreate a love scene in Literature. Any that you wish. I have written all the girls' names in this bowl, and I'll ask the boys to take a name. That will be you partner."
Great. Amy didn't get along with anyone in that class, and now she had to work with one of them. This day didn't seem to be the best. Mr. Geller started asking the boys who their partner was.
"Mr. Parker, who is your partner? "He asked.
"Amy Wilkes. " Jonah answered.
Amy opened her eyes in surprise, did he really say her name? She almost felt like pinching herself to know it was real and not a dream. For a moment she looked at Jonah's direction and he looked back at her. She wasn't sure but he seemed to have a smirk on his face. Amy wondered how it would turn for her to work together with Jonah, they haven't even started talking and she already felt nervous about the assignment. She had no idea how to feel in that moment. Was this a cruel joke from fate?
