Chapter 30 Sibling Time
Amy and Jonah drove her back to her house, on the way they were both quiet. Amy had no idea how to break the ice, occasionally she turned to him, and he looked stoic, as he only had his eyes on the road. She couldn't figure out if he was really focused on driving or he was mad. She hugged her panda teddy bear harder. At least it wouldn't treat her badly.
"Thanks for the bear, it's really cute. " she said not knowing what else to say.
"You're welcome. " He answered not moving his eyes from the road.
"You have a good aim, have you participated before in carnival games?"
"Just one or two times. "
Clearly, he was not in the mood for talking so she stopped insisting. If he was not wanting to speak to her, she would not beg him either as she had her own pride. She felt relieved when he parked the car on the apartment parking lot. She unbuckled her seat belt and grabbed all her stuff. When he was not seeing she quietly slipped a twenty-dollar bill close to the radio, it was the least she could do since he payed almost everything.
"Thanks, see you on Monday. " she said as she placed her hand on the door to open it.
"Wait. " he said placing his hand on her shoulder.
"What?" She asked almost desperate wanting to go out.
He leaned close to her and softly pressed his lips to hers. At first, she was about to push him away, she was mad at him for ignoring her the way she did, but the way he kissed her made her forget it. Amy usually mocked expressions like feeling butterflies in the stomach, but this was the effect he was having on her, she felt as if something inside her was about explode. She had received her first kiss, and it was with no one else that Jonah Parker, her longtime crush.
"I couldn't let you leave without giving a goodnight kiss. " He whispered.
"I have to go. " she said leaving.
Amy took her key from her backpack and stuffed in the keyhole. She opened the door and saw Sean seated on the dinner table.
"Hi sis. " he said.
"Hi, I'm sorry for not answering you before. I didn't listen to the phone; you know if I did I would have answered." She replied sitting next to him.
"I know, I needed to know you were fine. That's all. But when you didn't answer and didn't call me back either I was afraid something bad happened. But from what i see, everything is fine as you as you even brought a new friend home. " he said pointing the panda.
"It was actually nice, I had a good time. What about you, how was your day?"
"Pretty good too, i had a lovely time with a charming lady. "
"You did? Who is she?" Amy asked interested.
"I propose you something, let's have breakfast tomorrow at the Bread and Butter restaurant and we can both discuss our respective dates."
"So, it was a date?" Amy asked opening her eyes.
"Not really, it wasn't planned, it was more casual and i don't think she would call it that way. But it's the only term i can think of now. "
"It's agreed then, good night. "
"Good night, Aims. " he said kissing her on the cheek.
The Bread and Butter was a family restaurant that Sean and Amy knew perfectly well since every Saturday they would eat with their parents, it was a tradition since they could remember. They decided to honor their parents by continue having breakfast every Saturday, unless other things interrupted their plans. They were seated close to the window. The waitress came to ask their orders, and when she left, they started speaking.
"So, tell me how was the carnival yesterday? " Sean asked interested.
"We rode a roller coaster and a carousel. He offered to get me a prize, and he got me the panda. Afterwards we walked on the beach."
"And?"
"What do you mean by and?"
"Are you telling me nothing else happened?"
The waitress came with their drinks, a coffee for Sean and orange juice for Amy. When she left the siblings continued their conversation.
"So?" Sean asked eyeing his sister.
Sean had good intuition, since young he had that characteristic. She preferred to tell him the truth, as she was done with hiding things from him.
"We kissed last night."
Sean opened his eyes in surprise, amazing Amy as she expected another reaction from him.
"You kissed him, or he kissed you?"
"Does it really matter?"
"Yes, I want to know if it was consented. "
Amy was surprised he would use the word "consent" on a kiss, but she understood his point. He wanted to be sure Jonah respected her last night, especially considering how protective he was with her.
"He kissed me, but it was consented."
"Ok, then."
"Why are you so calm? I thought you would freak out when you found out."
The waiter brought their food. Amy ordered waffles and Sean ordered pancakes, he grabbed the knife and started placing the butter on his pancakes. The waitress left after leaving their food.
"Whether I like it or not, you're growing up. It was a matter of time you would have your first kiss. Later you'll start having boyfriends, it's something i can't stop. I just want you to promise me something."
"What is it?" Amy asked giving a bite to her waffle.
"Don't have sex, you know the consequences that come from it. "
"Fine, but let's have this chat at home. I feel awkward talking about that here. Now, tell me how your date was yesterday."
"It wasn't really a date. I was wanting a coffee after work, so I went to the coffee shop and found Ms. Reynolds there. We sat together and started talking. "
"So, she was the mysterious girl?" Amy said opening her mouth.
"Yes, it was her. Close your mouth before a fly gets in your mouth. "
"And what happened?"
"We had a nice time talking about different authors, she's a smart and interesting woman. "
"You like her then?" Amy asked placing her hand on her cheeks.
"Don't mock me. " Sean said shaking his head.
"I'm not, I believe you two would do an amazing couple. You two have something in common: You 're both teachers and love Literature."
"You really think so?"
"I do, ask her out someday."
"She's a teacher at your school, wouldn't that be awkward for you?"
"She's not my teacher, so no. Just think about it. Some romance in your life would spice you up. Remember that we invited her to dinner, that's your chance to see her again."
"My life is not that boring. "
"But it could be better, usually you focus on your work and me."
Amy was really hoping her brother would be interested in dating. His last girlfriend was in high school and her name was Shirley Jensen. They dated one year before their parents died, but after their deaths he didn't find himself capable of giving her time and dedication she deserved, so he ended the relationship. Amy knew it was because he was grieving, but also because he was protecting her. Since then, he was always protecting her, and even though she was thankful for all she did for him she wanted him to have his own life too .Occasionally he went out with some women but nothing serious. However Hannah Reynolds seemed to be the one for her brother, as he sounded excited when talking about her. No other date he mentioned caused him that effect.
Hannah Reynolds was glad it was Saturday, it was her day for doing her errands: groceries, laundry, and if she had money enough, she would go to the beauty salon for a mani pedi treatment, a facial and her hair. She looked herself on the mirror before coming out, and somehow, she remembered her time with Sean Wilkes causing her to smile. She grabbed her jacket and her purse walking to her car, when she was completely horrified when seeing her car.
"What the heck?" She screamed angrily and shocked.
The words "Stay Away" were written with blue paint on her red Volvo. She had no idea who hated her so much that would write that message on her car. She took out her phone and looked for a taxi service, there was no way she would go out with her car looking that way.
