Chapter 26 Bad Feeling
Amy walked to meet her brother, when she saw surprised the same girl who she saw the other day eating with him. What the hell was she doing there? She walked as fast as she could to find out.She had a huge interest in knowing what she was doing there.
" Anabelle, what are you doing here?" Sean asked.
" You mentioned how today you were coming to your sister's play, and I decided to come and show some support too." She said with a huge smile on her face.
" It was nice meeting you, but I have to help with some stuff backstage." Ms. Reynolds said excusing herself.
Anabelle's eyes moved to Amy's direction and in an unexpected way she grabbed her hand moving them up and down excitedly.
" You were amazing tonight; Perdita was with no doubt the role for you." she said smiling.
" Thanks, if you excuse us, we have plans. " Amy said trying to be polite even though it wasn't easy for her.
" Good night, Anabelle." Sean said waving his hand.
" See you in class on Monday, Professor Wilkes." Anabelle said waving her hand too.
Amy and Sean walked as fast as they could trying to get away from Anabelle, occasionally looking back to check she was not following them. Sean opened the car and the two of them got inside, moving the car in reverse and then moving forward.
"Please don't tell me you invited her to the play." Amy said.
"God no, I did mention I was coming to your play at class today but that's all."
"Why? "
" I always speak with my students at class about activities they do outside campus, it helps me bond with them. I did not expect to see her here. "
" But from what i see she wants to have more bonding with you. You have to talk to her. "
"Trust me, I will. This was too much."
" Did you invite Ms. Reynolds to dinner? "
" I did, but Anabelle interrupted us. It might have to wait."
" Damn, I really wanted her to come with us." Amy said sighing.
Sean felt disappointed too, Ms. Hannah Reynolds looked like an accessible and tender person, no wonder Amy spoke so well about her. There was something about her that caught his eye and felt interested in getting to know her more. Sean liked smart girls, as it was easier for him to chat, and she seemed that way.
Jonah was approached by his father at the end of the play, and the way Richard Parker looked at him reflected proudness, and made Jonah smile.
" You were awesome, son. " Richard said giving Jonah a hug.
" Thanks dad. "
" Your mom would have loved to be here; she was a theater lover. She would be really proud of you."
" She loved theater?" Jonah asked surprised.
" Yeah, when I first met her, she was on a play. It was Hamlet, and she was portraying Ophelia. I feel in love with her immediately. Someday i will tell you the whole story."
" Why don't we go to dinner, and you tell me the story? I'm intrigued."
" No problem .Where would you like to eat?"
Father and son walked together chatting. For the first time in many years Jonah felt a connection with his father, and it made him comfortable. They arrived to the restaurant and continued the conversation as the waiter left after taking their orders.
" Dad, I want to apologize for how i behaved when we went to dinner with Sharon and her daughter. I was rude to both of you."
Richard shooked his head.
" It was my fault, i should have told you about her. You had all right to be mad at me."
" I need to know, are you two serious?"
Richard drank a sip of wine before answering.
" We are still getting to know each other, but I do see myself with her in the future. But maybe it's still too soon."
Jonah remained quiet when hearing his father's answer, if he was right then that meant Sharon would become his stepmother. He wasn't ready for that idea, but if it would really happen, he had to mentally prepare himself that it was no longer going to be only his dad and him.
"Jonah, I want to assure that no matter what i love and will always love your mother. She was a wonderful woman, and no one will ever replace her. No one."
" I know, and I'm sure she would want you to be happy."
Both of them continued talking all night, getting close to each other, talking about themselves and having a closer bond between them.
Monday arrived and everyone was reading the play review on the school newspaper. Amy and Dana had their own copies and read them at lunch while eating.
" This is awesome, all our performances are being praised." Dana said eating her Doritos.
" It was fun, maybe we can participate on another play. That would be nice."
"Wilkes, can I speak to you later?" Jonah said as he passed next to them.
" Sure." Amy slowly nodded her head.
" Wonder what will he say to you, maybe it has to do with your chemistry on the play." Dana said winking an eye.
" What are talking about?"
" Let's not forget the undeniable stage chemistry between Florizel and Perdita, portrayed by students Jonah Parker and Amy Wilkes. Everyone could feel the love between them. " Dana said reading the newspaper.
" You said it, stage chemistry only."
" Don't forget to tell me what he said to you. "
Adam Geller was reading a book when suddenly a copy of the school newspaper was placed in front of him. He had no need to see who it was, as he recognized the manicured hand holding the paper.
" Have you read it? I told you Amy Wilkes would rock the role." Ms. Reynolds said sitting and placing a leg on the other one.
" Why do you have to be bragging, Hannah?" He said raising his sight from his book.
" Because it feels good to know I was right and you were wrong. "
" Fine, I shouldn't have doubted her abilities but you can't really blame me. You know she's socially awkward. Everyone knows it."
" She may not be popular and may not have that many friends, but she is a sweet kid. You should know better, she's your student after all."
" Tell me Hannah, why are you interested in her?"
" I see potential in her, she can reach several goals. Not all kids have rich parents who can give them everything they want."
" That's the only reason? On Friday I saw you all flirty with her brother after the play."
"Are you really suggesting I am trying to help her to get close to her brother? I had no idea she had a brother before Friday." She said coming closer to him.
" I'm just saying what I saw, you should have seen your face when you were speaking to him."
" You know what Adam, I'll just go to my next class before i punch you in the face for talking crap." She said grabbing her books and walking away.
" Hannah, come on." He called her but she ignored him and shut the door.
Anabelle Clark was excited when Professor Wilkes asked to stay after class as he needed to speak to her after class. The bell rang indicating the class was over and walked to his desk.
" You wanted to speak to me, professor?"
" Yes Anabelle. I need to ask you a favor. Please don't look for me outside campus, it can cause me trouble .If we are seen together people may start imagining things."
"But we went out one time, it was no big deal."
" My sister saw us, and just as she did any other person could have. I could be risking my job."
" You're right. Next time we'll be more careful."
" Are you listening to what I'm saying? We can't be seen together. Never."
" But we need to spend time together. We need to get to know each other better. If we are going to be dating, that's what we should do.
Sean understood that Amy was right when she told him that this girl had something for him. He didn't believe her but now he knew he had to stay away from her. He regretted not seeing the signs.
"Anabelle, I do appreciate you as my student but that's all. I have no romantic feelings towards you. I'm sorry if i gave you that impression but it's not that way."
" All men are the same, you play with a woman's feelings and later treat us like crap. You always said my works were well done and appreciate my participation in class." She answered angrily.
" I was being polite, that's all. I was just trying to encourage you, that's my job as a teacher. "
" You are an awful person. " She exclaimed as she walked outside the class.
Sean saw her walk away, relieved, however he had a bad feeling about her getting back at him hoping he was wrong.
