Chapter 5. Talk of the town

"Good Morning everyone! You're listening to 92.5 The Breeze and we're here to get you started with your work morning. Happy Tuesday guys! It's Katie here and to help you start your morning well, we're going to play the only, Footloose!"

"ugh," I wake up to the sound of my dad's radio and get up from my bed, and head towards the bathroom. As usual, I brush my teeth and get ready. I head to the kitchen and start packing my lunch. Yes, I pack my own lunch because my parents are too busy to do so. I've been packing lunch ever since 5th grade because I hated school food and now it's just a habit.

My dad and I head out to the garage and I get in his car. "All right don't forget that Ben's picking you up today," he says while moving out of the driveway. "Yep," I say in reply. "Also, me and your mom decided to take next week off and go to Las Vegas for our anniversary, so Ate Gemma will be home to drop you off since she finishes school this week.". "Ok," I say.

We pull up to the neighborhood in front of the school and he drops me off there. I walk toward the school and meet up with Dani. 

"Man, why do you have to have a doctor's appointment today? Couldn't you schedule it for the weekend?" 

"No, Jill. Stop worrying about it, plus isn't Ben picking you up?" she says with a grin. "Yes... What about it? He's just going to pick me up, drop me off, work on homework with me, and go home. That's it." I shrug.

"All right whatever you say," she says. "Oh come on! I haven't even kissed anyone." I say back. She replies with a shrug "Whatever Tracy, You do you". I roll my eyes and head to class.

I sit down for English and I feel everyone staring at me. Why would they be staring at me? I didn't do anything.

"Hey Jill, is it true you're dating Ben Mylo from Dreven?" Jack says from behind me. Wait, how does he know? "You don't seem like the type he'd go out with," he says with snickers following behind.

"How do you know I know him?" I say giving him a stare. "Woah, I was just wondering since he's been talking about you, and the news was soon delivered here." raising his hand in defeat. I turn back around to face the whiteboard. "I'm not dating him, I just know him because of my parents," I mumble. 

"Oh don't be shy sweetie, we're here," he says with a pouty voice. Oh, now he's done it. 

"I'm. Not. Dating. Him." I say turning around with a face that could kill. Jack is clearly intimidated and I see his jaw tick."You're lucky I can't hit a girl, Tracy". I hear a couple of 'oohs' from the class. "It's fine, in fact, I would thank you for it because I really don't want to be alive right now," I say rolling my eyes.

Finally, the teacher walks in. "Anything you wanna share with the class, Miss Tracy?". "No, I think I already told them" I mumble. "What was that Jill?" I hear him say while cupping his ear. "Oh nothing Mr. Thompson, proceed," I say while bringing up my sleeves to my hands.

The class proceeded and nobody bothered me during my other classes. Soon enough it was time for lunch, A.K.A, tutoring with Parker. 

I walk into the library and see Parker. I sit down and take out my notes. "Hey, that was cool of you to stand up against Jack" I hear him say. "Thanks but it wasn't really anything," I say while opening up to a page and I feel him staring at me which was really uncomfortable for me.

We go through everything and I gather my stuff and get up from my seat. I start to walk until I hear this, "Wait, Jill! I need to tell you something real quick" says Parker. "Um okay," I walk over to him and ask him if he needs help on something else.

"Actually no, I wanted to tell you that I do like you and wonder if you do too?" he says while rubbing the back of his neck. Oh My God, did he just say LIKES ME? "Oh-uh I- L-like you too," I say blushing even though something seems wrong. 

My eyes widen to see that he's trying to go for a kiss. A KISS! 

This will be my first kiss. 

C'mon Jill! Now's your chance to not become a nobody anymore!
I hear a voice in my head say.

No! something seems wrong! Don't do it

Says another voice.

I panic and say "I- I'm sorry but I can't" I run out of the library and head to the cafeteria hoping Dani hasn't left yet.

"C'mon Dani where are you!" I mumble under my breath. I can't find her and I give up and head to eat alone in the quad. 

The thought of him kissing me comes back to mind and I lose my appetite. I throw my sandwich away. I put on my hood and hide in the corner of the rest of the classes.

Finally, it's the end of the day and I'm ready to head home with Dani. Wait Dani's not here. Ugh, Ben's picking me up. I pull out my phone and text him to see where he's at.

I roll my eyes and walk over to his car which was a Toyota that looked pretty new.

"Nice ride you got here," I say. "Thanks, me and my family have been saving up for it," he says

We exit the neighborhood and I roll down the window. "Hey why'd you roll down the window?" he asks while looking at me. "I don't like the smell of new car leather," I say shrugging. "Well that's a first, Hey want to get something to eat at Chipotle?" he says. I'm really starting to get hungry now and I regret throwing away that sandwich. My mouth waters at the thought of food.

"Yes, I'm really hungry because I skipped lunch," I say. "Why'd you skip lunch?" he says. My stomach drops to the floor as the thought comes into mind. "Oh, uh-m n-nothing no reason just wasn't really hungry at the moment," I say while starting to bite my nails. 

"Oh come on Jill, I know there's something behind that" He chuckles until his face turns serious which slightly scares me. "Jill? Did something happen?" Jeez, how does this guy know? Can he read my mind?

 I take a deep breath and I don't know why this is hard for me to say. "You know the guy Parker who I told you about?" I say nervously. "Yeah, the guy you like?" he says while entering the parking lot.

"Wait how do you know I liked him?" I say confused as we walked into Chipotle.

"It was obvious based on how you described him. but that's not the point." 

"Anyways, I tutor him, and then he told me he liked me and-" I get interrupted by the Chipotle worker.

"Hi welcome to Chipotle what can I get you guys?"

A/N: Hey sorry to leave off right there but I decided to split this chapter. I wrote 1200+ words in an hour at 1 am so I'm pretty tired. Today's song is 3005 by Donald Glover or Childish Gambino. Do you think that she should've kissed Parker back? I wonder how he feels about being practically ghosted. I don't feel like proofreading tonight so I'm going to let you guys do it for me. Thanks!
