Chapter 26: Awake

"Hey, where were you guys?" Dani exclaims. "Uh, I kinda got lost... but, luckily Ben found me," I say. "Ah, I see," She replies smirking. 

"What?" I ask. "Uhhh well... ya know- You getting lost, then Ben finding you, come on! You guys are literally magnets to each other," Dani says playing with her fingers. 

"Oh! Did you tell Dani about the group of boys that were following her? Ben saved her from them too," Will adds. 

"Really? Oh my god- the ship- it's been sailed. Actually for a long time, and I didn't know!" Dani says surprised. 

"It's not like you would've done the same if it were me and you," I reply. "Well, it depends. Did he beat them up? I would've." She says.

"He just cussed at them," I reply. "See, if I were there I would beat them up. I should invest in tasers," She says.

"Jill, here's our Nutella funnel cake, and Dani here's your strawberry one, then Will, your plain one," Ben says joining us at the picnic table.

"Thanks," I say as he takes a seat next to me. "Oh my god, this is so good," Dani says. I nod in agreement since I was too busy stuffing my face with my funnel cake.

"You sure you don't want your own?" Ben asks. "What? No, it's okay I want to save space for dinner anyways," I reply. He nods as I hand him the plate.

After we ate, we were glad the sun had already set because the scorching sun has been killing us all day. "Did we bring enough sunscreen?" I ask. "Like 5 bottles yeah," Will replies. 

"Are you guys ready for dinner?" Ben asks. "Yeah sure," we all reply in a dead tone. We were so exhausted by the sun and the rides that we were practically crawling back to the van. "Let's get Subway," Dani says. The rest of us agree and we plan to go home after that because we were so tired. 

When we get there we order, eat, then leave. Even though we were so tired, we scarfed down our food like if it was the last thing on Earth. 

"I can drive back," Ben suggests. "Nah, it's okay I can still do it," Will says. We all get in and for some reason the food made me feel awake. Like if I could drive, I would. Everyone was so tired when we got in except me. 

"You're not tired?" Ben asks while yawning. "No," I reply. "Huh," he closes his eyes and rests his head on his seatbelt. A few minutes in we take a turn and then Ben ends up just laying there on my shoulder. I literally did not move at all. 

I swear, my arm was spazzing at this point. I had no choice by trying to move him in the most subtle way. I take my right hand under his head and lift it up while I move my left shoulder out of the way. Unfortunately, I woke him up.

"Sorry!" I whisper. "Hm? Oh, I was sleeping on you, I should be the one saying sorry," He replies. "Oh, well it's okay. My arm was just kinda sore so I moved you, plus the sunburn." I say. 

"Well, you should go back to sleep," I add. "Nah, it's okay I don't want to be awake for the rest of the night." He says sitting up.

I'm the first to be dropped off at my house and we all say goodbye. When I enter my house, my parents were watching some TV. "Hi mom, hi dad," I say. "Hey! How was it?" My dad asks. "Oh, it was fun, we ate a lot. The sun was a pain though," I reply. "Oh, fun!" My mom says. 

"You didn't stay to see the fireworks?" My dad asks. "Yeah, we were too tired to stay until midnight,"

I leave the living room to shower and then head to bed since the day was finally catching up to me. Although, just as I was about the sleep, the thought of Ben liking me rang in my head. What if he did? And do I like him?

A/N: Oh my goodness, I am back. Well, sorta. I will have random spurs of updating then disappear for no reason. Schoolwork has been taking up my time but, that doesn't stop me from brainstorming new chapters plus books. Yep, I have started planning the start of Unexpected Encounter and a new book as well. Sorry if this was a short chapter but more is to come and hopefully by the summer we'll be more active. Stay safe everyone!
