Chapter 12. Prom Plans and Trips

Ben //Monday//

"Reserve your tickets for Junior Prom now before it's sold out!" says our school counselor. "Hey, are you gonna go to Junior Prom?" I hear Will say to me. "Uhm I'm not sure, are you guys?" I ask looking towards him and Noah. "I'm going with Riley," says Will. Riley is his new girlfriend and she's alright. "Oh okay, what about you Noah?" I ask.

"I'll go if you do." He says shrugging. "Ehh, won't hurt to go I guess," I say. "But dude, isn't Alexa going?" Will nudges me on the shoulder. I sigh, "What does that even matter, I'm just gonna stay away from her.". "Alright then," he says back.

"Are you going to your Junior Prom Ben?" Jill asks me. We all just decided to hang out today because there's no homework for the last week of school. "Yeah, I'm just going with Noah and Will," I say to her. "No date?" She says laughing. "Ahaha, yeah no one this year. Are you going to yours?" I ask looking at her.

"I don't want to but Dani has just been pestering me about going." She says rolling her eyes. "Oh come on, just go! Please." Dani says to her. "No," Jill says. I laugh at them. "Do you guys want to go to the prom at my school? I can buy some tickets for us. I think it'd be fun to go all together." I say out loud.

They look at me surprised but then they go and think about it. Dani answers first, "I'm down." she says. We both look at Jill awaiting her answer. " I want to go but let me ask my parents," she says. "Okay." Dani and I say at the same time. 

We were just sitting at the park in front of Dani's house staring at the clouds. "Oh, Ben! I forgot to tell you something." Jill says startling me a little. "Yes?" I say. "Okay, so I and my parents want to invite you to stay with us at our house in Lake Tahoe. I know it sounds like I'm rich but it's not like a mansion just a one-story house with a lot of rooms and we share it with one of my other family members," she says. "Oh yeah my parents got your parents text, we want to go, how much?" I ask. "What do you mean how much? The only thing you going to pay for is some gas and souvenirs," she says back. "Oh okay, I'll let them know. It's going to be the weekend after this one right?". "Yep."

"Why didn't I get invited?" Dani says. "You've already been with us plus my parents are asking, not me. This is also what you get for ditching me after his soccer game." Jill says to her. "Oh whatever, it's not like you didn't have a good time after." She argues. "FYI Dani, it actually wasn't you wanna know how many times I got catcalled and stared at?!" She says in protest. "Hey, hey! There's no need to argue about this if anything is stupid" I say interrupting.

"Fine, sorry Jill, your right," Dani says in defeat. "Ha!" Jill says to her. I glare at her and she immediately switches moods. "Actually yeah sorry for being selfish," she says. After that, we talked a little more and then left the park.

"Hey mom, dad, can I ask you something?" I say nervously. "Yeah what's up." My dad says. I decided that asking them during dinner would be best because we were all together and I could get over it. "Can I-go to prom, with my friends? But, I'm not going to the prom at my school." I ask. "What do you mean?" They ask. "We're going to the one at Ben's school. It's just going to be me, Dani, and Ben." I say trying to be as persuasive as possible. "You've been hanging out with Ben a lot." My mom says. "But I'm only going because Dani is. I could always stay at home as I would originally." I say slightly giving up.

"Oh no, it's fine. Oh, have you asked him about Lake Tahoe yet?" My dad asks. "Oh yeah I told them and they want to go. Check your phone if they replied." I say. "So, how much are the tickets?" he asks. "Oh, uhm can I ask him really quick?" I ask pulling out my phone. They nod and I go and text him.

Hey, how much are the tickets?}

Oh I was going to buy them}

My parents are asking tho}

Fine but I'll pay for dinner then}

Fine. How much?}

$7}

Ok thanks}

Np}

"Okay, he said $7. He said he's going to pay for the dinner so he said it was okay." I say to them putting my phone back to charge. "Okay, I'll give you the money tomorrow, just remind me," he says. We finish dinner and the rest of the night goes on.

"So, I have no dresses that look nice," I say looking at my closet sighing. "Well, you know what that means.." Dani says. "Oh no." I groan. "We get to go shopping!" she squeals. I sit down on my bed in defeat knowing that this will be one heck of a day. We already paid for our tickets and the dance is in two days.

My mom agreed to take us to the mall today so now, we are in the car and heading there right now. On the way, we just listen to the radio and talk about what we're going to do this summer. Dani is planning on doing some road trips like us with her family and we are thinking about just staying home.

"Okay, we're here." My mom says shutting off the car. We get out and enter the mall. "So, what type of dress do you want?" Dani says. "Uhmm something simple I guess," I say in reply. She nods and we look for some dress boutiques. Of course, we look for the ones on sale.

"How about this one?" she says holding out a blue sparkly dress. "Ehh, too sparkly," I say shrugging. "This one?" My mom offers a purple dress. "Too showy," I say back. We go through a couple more nearing the end of the sale rack. I go and look further and I find this sort of peach dress that is not too revealing or sparkly.

I turn to them and show them the dress. "How about this one?" I say holding it up to me. "It looks gorgeous! Try it on!" Dani exclaims. "Okay." I head to the fitting room and go to try it on. I enter the stall and put on the dress. Wow, this fits perfectly. I turn to look at the mirror and to my surprise, it looks great. I step out and go to show them.

"Oh my gosh!! This is so cute Jill." Dani says. "I like it! You look, nice honey." My mom says. I smile at them and go back to the fitting room to change my clothes. This was easier than I expected.
