Chapter 8: Guess the Song (part 1)
*After school*
*Thomas's POV*
I smiled, as I was waiting for the band to get into the band room, excited.
Mr J was also excited, but he was leaning back into his chair, sipping his coffee with his beany on. He looked at me and chuckled. "Calm down, Thomas. They'll be here when they can." He said.
"I know, but I'm so excited to see them!" I said, as I bounced on my heels. "Do you think, if we can get good enough, we can take it to the surface?" I asked, contemplating it.
"Maybe, but first you have to have a band name." Mr. J said, as he took another drink, a gleam in his eye.
"Salutations." I heard someone call and I turned around.
"Hey Logan. You made it!" I said, grinning.
"Yes I did indeed. I have arrived. Are the others in proximity?" He asked, and I looked lost.
"Are the others coming?" He said again, simpler.
"Oh, yea, their coming. What do you think we should do first?" I asked, as I smiled at him.
"I think getting to know one another is imperative." Logan said, as he looked at me for confirmation.
"That's a great idea Logan. We can't be a band without knowing anything about anyone. Let's do truth or dare." I suggested, my excitement growing.
"I suggest not. I know that a few of our acquaintances would not appreciate that." Logan said.
"Appreciate what, my musical compadres!?" Ronan said from behind Logan, which caused him to flinch.
"E=mc scared!" He shouted, in response.
I snorted in laughter, and Roman doubled over from laughing.
"Oh my stars!" He said, holding his sides. "That was priceless." He laughed.
"What is so funny?" Logan asked, as he glared at us two.
"It's nothing, you just said something funny." I said, patting him on the shoulder. "I'm sorry if we hurt your feelings." I apologised.
"You did not. I appreciate the concern." Logan said, as his eyes softened from his glare.
"I was simply commenting that a few of our members might not appreciate truth or dare. I had a better idea instead." Logan said, as he fixed his glasses on his nose.
"What members?" A quiet dark voice asked.
"Anx, nice to see you!" I said, smiling.
"It is, indeed, good to meet again." Logan said, as he grabbed his notebook, going over to Mr. J.
"Your makeup, though I do not understand all of the eyeshadow, looks on fleek today, my chemically inbalanced romance." Roman said, causing me to chuckle.
"Did...you just use a band to describe me, Romano?" Anx asked, as I snorted at his nickname.
"Yes I- wait. Did you call me Romano?" Roman asked, as he glared at Anx.
Anx shrugged, as he smirked slightly.
"I really don't like you, Marilyn morose." Ronan said.
"Right back at you, drama king." Anx said, and the two glared at each other.
"Whoa guys, c'mon." I said, confused on what happened. First they were joking and not they don't like each other?
"Animosity between ourselves is never a successful thing. Let's try to get along. I'm sure that this feeling will pass." Logan said, all seriously, as Mr. J nodded, and Logan closed his notebook.
Suddenly, a panting Patton came running in the door, his own notebook in hand. "Hey guys! Sorry I'm a bit late." He said, as enthusiastic as always, bit slightly out of breath.
"Hey Patton." I called back.
"What withheld you?" Logan asked, as Roman and Anx kept staring at each other.
"Oh, I was over at the elementary school, reading to the kiddos and I forgot what time it was." Patton said, chipperly.
"You were reading to kids? That's so nice of you." I commented, as I smiled. "And your just in time. We're about to do a get to know you activity. Logan's making it, apparently." I said, as Patton made his way over to a beanbag, making himself comfortable.
Roman and Anx sat in bean bags too, just on either side of Patton, away from each other.
Logan nodded, as he put in the CD. "We're playing musical guess." He explained.
"Oh, what's that?" Patton asked, as he bounced slightly. He was adorable like that.
"It is a guessing game. You'll pick up on it quickly, Patton." Logan said, an amused smile on his face, as he played the CD.
Soon, music started to play. It was fimilar....
"Once upon a time not so long ago
Tommy used to work on the docks, union's been on strike
He's down on his luck, it's tough, so tough
Gina works the diner all day working for her man
She brings home her pay, for love, for love"
"Oh, Livin On A Prayer, by Bon Jovi." I said, and Logan nodded.
"Good, one point for Thomas." Logan said, and Mr J nodded, writting a tic in the notebook, shocking everyone.
"Hold up one moment, music nerd. This is a competition?" Roman asked, exasperated.
"Yes, indeed. Is that a problem?" Logan asked, confused, stopping the next song from playing.
"Then I'd like to sit out." Anx said, immediately, a nervous look on his face.
I was about to try to convince Anx to stay and maybe comfort him, but Patton beat me to it.
"Anx, please play with us. It won't be the same without you." Patton asked, pouting slightly.
Whatever it was about Patton made Anx think about it, before sighing. He was never such a softie, but something about him made it impossible to say no.
"Fine." Anx said, as he slumped over in his beanbag.
"Why is it a competition?" I asked, a bit confused on that part. I was pretty good with music, but why did he go and make Anx nervous like that?
"The competitive approach of this to decide the leader of the band. The non-competitive component is to hopefully help create a bond over music, maybe sharing experiences or life goals or something of that nature among the music." Logan said, as he played the CD player once more.
"A long long time ago
I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
Something touched me deep inside
The day the music died"
"Oh, I know this one! Bye bye Miss American Pie, by Don McLean." I said, grinning as Logan nodded and put another tally down by my name.
"This is preposterous, your picking songs Thomas knows!" Roman said, outraged.
"Alright, if you find it so, I'll pick a different song." Logan said, skipping a few songs before leaving it alone.
"I can't take this kinda pressure!
I must confess one more dusty road would be just a road to long (worthless)
I just can't, I just can't, I just can't seem to get started!
don't have a heart to live in the fast lane all that has passed and gone
Worthless! there ain't nothing you can do about it
Worthless! Pardon me while I panic! (worthless, worthless, worthless) "
"I know this one, Worthless from the Brave Little.... Toaster." Anx said, as he stopped, realizing everyone was looking at him.
"What in artamis is that, Panic at the everywhere?" Roman asked, curious.
"It's a Disney movie, wouldn't expect you to know it, princey." Anx said, laying on the heat.
Roman gasped dramatically. "You dare besmirch the name of Disney?!? And you dare question my Disney song knowledge?!! I'll have you know, I know every Disney song, and I am certain Disney would never publish such a depressing song, hot topic!" Roman countered.
"Aww, you find me hot. But anyway, Romeo, look it up if you don't believe me." Anx challenged, and Ronan quickly took out his phone.
"I'll show you." He muttered under his breath.
Roman looked it up, angrily typing in brave little toaster, before seeing that it was, in fact, a Disney movie.
"What, I am flabbergasted! Astounded, even." Roman said, shocked.
"Told ya. Maybe you haven't seen every Disney movie after all." Anx said, smirking.
"Wow, Anx, I didn't know you liked Disney!" I said, as I looked at a struck Roman.
Anx looked away, as he mumbled. "I like the dark messages." He said.
"I like Disney too! My favorite is Winnie the Pooh." Patton smiled, as he looked at them two.
"I love Disney!" I said, smiling as well, as I was about to say my favorite, but Roman cut me off.
"But I live Disney!" Roman cried, dramatically, as he feigned falling, sinking lower into his beanbag.
"Anx, you sure took Roman down a peg. Sorry Roman." I said, as I apologized right after.
"Finally." Logan mumbled, as Mr. J chuckled.
"It is no big deal, Thomas. I know I don't know everything, but I am curious. I will watch it when I get home." Roman announced.
"Next one?" Patton asked, his eyes gleaming with determination.
"Of course." Logan said, as he played the CD player.
