Chapter 5: I am the walrus

*Patton's POV*

'Today's been fantastic!' I chirped in my head, brightly, smiling. I got good grades in my classes, except for math, of course. It was such a beautiful day outside! The birds were singing, the flowers were blooming, there was a lovely breeze, I had my favorite movie (Winnie the Pooh) on play when I got home, Nana was making my favorite dish, I had my Nana's dog to look forward to after school today as well. I love puppies, their so cute and fluffy and adorable and...

"Yo Patton!" I heard someone call, as my rambling train if thought was de-railed. Get it.

"Hi there!" I called back to the tall male. He probably played a sport.

"Do ya think you can come help the basketball team lookin' for the lost basketballs after school?" He asked, as he looked me in the eye.

"Sure thing, champ!" I said, as I smiled. I could manage that. I'm great at finding things.

"Your the best Patton!" He shouted, before jogging away down the hall, probably to his next class.

"Thank you!" I shouted in reply, as I grinned. I loved to help people, almost as much as I loved telling dad jokes.

I grinned, as I shifted my backpack slightly, squishing my cute little walrus keychain toy, smiling, my mind recalling a funny joke.

'Why do walrus' swim in salt water?
Because if they swam in pepper water, they'd sneeze!'

I laughed internally at my joke, as I smiled at nothing.

Everything is perfect.

Suddenly, the pounding of feet stormed down the hall, revealing a freshman girl, red in the face, stress and panic shining in her eyes.

"Good....morning... Patton! I...um.. have a....huge favor to ask." She came up to me and asked, out of breath as she gasped for air.

"Hey, take a deep breath. I can wait and when your ready, you can tell me what's going on." I said, putting a comforting hand on their shoulder, as I took a deep breath, the freshman copying my actions until she was more relaxed. She nodded at me, as she gave a small smile.

"So, What can I help you with?" I asked, with my usual paitence. Hey, that rhymed!

"So, you know the wrap battle for tots and toys is today, and we were gathering the supplies, and then we realized we had misplaced the wrapping paper." She said, after taking a couple deep breaths.

"Oh, alrighty, I can help you with both of those. I'll go find the wrapping paper, no problem!" I said, smiling.

The freshman girl looked at me, wide eyed, as she smiled. "Thank you so much, Patton!" She said, as she turned to go run back to the group.

"Alright, if I was wrapping paper, where would I be?" I asked myself once she left, heading over a random closet. I opened it up and a bunch of wrapping paper hit me in the face and I fell over from the suprise. I laughed.

'Today must be my lucky day!' I thought, as I picked myself up and dusted myself off.

I grinned, picking up the rolls of wrapping paper and putting them over my shoulders. "Well, I'd better skedaddle so I can get to my next class on time."

I ran down the hall, the roll of wrapping paper in my arms, as I ran past a kid with headphones. "Oh my, are you ok, kiddo." I asked.

They nodded, as they smiled.

"Sorry!" I apologized to the headphones kid, as he forgave me and I was on my way once more.

I reached the wrap battle room, as I smiled, handing the wrapping paper to the freshman, who looked relieved.

"Sorry it took so long. Guess you could say I was wrapped up!" I said, grinning widely. I chuckled at my own joke, the freshman chuckling as well.

The man running the wrap battle stared at me blankly. Must not be a pun fan.

I shrinked down at his glare, before leaving quickly. As I turned around, I saw this poor emo child being picked on by two older, more agressive kids. He was being held by the shirt as he gasped.

"Wow, it's even more ugly from up here. I didn't know that was possible." He said, and I laughed in my head, but scolded myself for laughing at that. It was making fun, and that's not funny.

Suddenly, the emo child was punched square in the face, as it was my turn to gasp as they slammed their head into the locker, slumping to the ground.

Something in me clicked, and in an instant, I was over there. I accidentally bumped into a bystander, knocking his glasses off on accident, as I stomped over to the bullies, my fists clenched tightly. I hate it when strong guys pick on weak guys.

"Hey tough guy, look out for this one!" I shouted, before my fist connected with the bullies eye, as he was knocked back as well, falling to the floor.

I turned to the dude behind him, as I glared at him, my eyes in 'dad mode', my Nana liked to tease. He was biting his lip so hard it split open. And I sighed, relaxing slightly, but wincing when my hand twinged with pain. I might have hit him a little bit too hard. Whoops!

I turned back to see if the guy who I had knocked into was alright, as I held my hand to my chest.

He started to walk over to me, and I thought I was in trouble. He looked really smart. He might say I punched him and I'd get in terrible trouble. I don't wanna worry my Nana.

"Here." Was all he said, as he pinched a nerve in my hand, making the pain stop hurting.

"Whoa! How'd you do that?" I asked, as I grinned at him, astonished.

"Pressure point." He said, as he looked into my eyes, feeling like he was analyzing me.

"Wow!" I said, excited. That was sooo cool! I grinned at him, beaming with thankfulness.

"Hey, are you ok?" I asked the emo child.

"Just perfect." He mumbled, as he wiped my nose, eyes widening at the blood.

"Do you need help getting up?" I asked, a small, comforting, genuine smile on my face. I tried to be soothing, not wanting to shake him up more so than he already was.

Before I could get a response, I heard a thump and I turned, seeing a prince leap out of the corner wall.

"Huh." Was all he said, sounding disappointed. Did I steal his thunder? Well, he wasn't lightening quick enough.

I grinned internally at my own pun, proud of that one.

Then my smile froze, as I heard heels clicking against the ground. Oh no.

"What on God's green earth happened here? Detention, all of you." She said, as she turned away from the sight of blood.

Suddenly, the kid with headphones I bumped into earlier turned the corner as well, as he opened his eyes to see what happened. He turned around suddenly, as he tried to leave, but the principal caught him.

"You too, young man! For that awful humming!" She screeched, before she left, her heals clicking on the tile growing fainter.

Welp, I'm hopelessly crushed. Maybe it won't be too bad?

I guess everything isn't perfect after all.

Greetings!

So, hopefully this was funny enough.
I will have more puns later, I'm just not good at writting those jokes.

Anyway, the next chapter is super long, I promise.

I'll make up for how short these chapters are.

Bye.
Love you,
Duck.
