Title: 2/3
Cover: 4/5
The cover does link well to the connotation of the title. I like that it also depicts the ocean, something in which Fiza finds peace and comfort, and it helps to create the image of peace and comfort that she can find in her relationships.
Blurb: 3/3
The blurb was a good introduction into the deeper meaning behind the story and how the main character feels and thinks.
Grammar, spelling and punctuation: 6.5/10
There were quite a few minor punctuation and grammar errors. I had left in-line comments on those which I had noticed but overall nothing that a little editing can't fix.
Originality and creativity: 3.5/5
The story does follow a classic bad boy-good girl vibe along with a hint of a love triangle. However, the setting of the story as well as the events involved such as the medical students going for the music competition, is a first for me and was quite refreshing.
Diction used: 3/4
The choice of diction was well established however there were certain areas where I felt like better words could have been used to help engage the readers more ( I have left in-line comments for those )
Characters and storyline: 5/5
The characters personalities and descriptions were well portrayed. They weren't too complex which really helps a reader to slowly get to know the characters. I really like how Alan's character was written. Fiza's character so far is interesting in it's own way but she does have a lot of room for development. The storyline was sweet and chilled with sprinkles of comedy and drama that helped to balance the events that were happening.
Pacing of the story: 2/3
The first chapter did start off a bit slow but afterwards the story picked up and began developing at a good pace. It was not too rushed or slow which made it more enjoyable to read as one has enough time to comprehend the story and then move on to the next event without being dragged by any unnecessary parts.
Foreshadowing, plotting: 4/5
The backstories of the character play a significant role in who they are and how they lead their lives. Their memories are well described and appear at the appropriate moments, especially to back up how they are feeling or why they are doing what they are doing. The plot of the story is well set out; I would have liked to see more of Fiza's past though.
Enjoyment of the story: 4/5
For someone like me who hasn't read much romance books, overall, the story was good. I did enjoy getting to know the characters and how they interacted with each other. The college setting worked well with the characters behaviour and how they interacted with each other. I enjoyed the friendship between Fiza and Alan, it was cute and sweet and has potential to develop into so much more.
Format and chapter length: 2/2
Total: 39/50
